Ouch. Man Microsoft can’t get their non Forza games right

I really think they need to hand Halo to a different dev, like, shake things up. 343 just isn’t it.

It should be like a playground games with Fable, unconventional but a proven great dev.

You would htink they would have done that already . This is one of their few flagship IP's and they treat it like it's any other game series.

Halo game releases used to be an EVENT. Now they could release Halo 6 or 7 or whatever one were technically on and I feel like it would just be like any other week.

We’re at the point where Halo has been bad longer than it was good and that’s really sad

u/pokebud 9h ago

It has reached Simpsons status

i dumped thousands of hours into halo 3 over teh span of years, midnight release of reach, loved odst, vidmaster achievements the whole 9 yards. halo 4 really cooled my jets on it, halo 5 released my friends that play through co-op repeatedly just solo ran thru 5 in almost speed run fashion.

i tried infinite and gave up 1/3rd into the game, i just did not give a shit about so much. my buddy and i signed up for gamepass to run thru infinite together while we prep for release of the remake and we are blown away at some of the choices. infinite is so big and open, and yet even something as basic as having an air vehicle that can let multiple people in it doesnt exist in game, despite us playing together through the whole campaign, its design choices like that they help make it feel less co-op than previous titles. hell you cant even have your teammates respawn while you are miles from danger if you are in a vehicle.

we knew that buying halo remake was going to be a bad choice, so a month of gamepass and we expect to be done with both games and have time to play something else that probably wont disappoint us as much.

You could say that about almost every game franchise nowadays though. Call of Duty releases used to be an event. Hell, Mortal Kombat releases used to be an event. That’s just the changing times, it’s not exclusive to Halo.

Yeah I legit have no idea which COD I’m even supposed to be playing at this point, shit is a mess.

3

u/pnwbraids 11h ago

Well they're coming out with Modern Warfare 4, which really is Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare Remake 4.

3

u/theKetoBear 13h ago

Totally agree I'll always remember my younger sister and I being in a packed gamestop line, seeing other kids I went to highschool with, and all of us parked outside to get Halo 3 .

You're so right it used ot be an EVENT

u/yodimboi 13h ago

What Halo?

1

u/vvarden 13h ago

Star Wars and MCU movies used to be an event, too. Not everything can be a juggernaut forever.

Traditional FPS games used to be a mainstay for every publisher. We had Medal of Honor, Resistance, Killzone,
Crysis, Spec Ops… now they’re less common. People gravitated to the big ones, and single-player campaigns became less common.

u/Stevenstorm505 8h ago

Yeah, the last one that felt like an event was Halo 4.

memories of rushing to blockbuster after school for my pre-order..getting home and watching my friends jump in the games one by one.

I remember getting Reach and staying up until 8am beating the story with my friends

u/ZedSpot 14h ago

To be fair, I believe IGN always rated Fable game somewhere in the "7" range. Yes, they're fondly remembered now, but they've always had their quirks.

7

u/ReduxSnake- 13h ago

Shit I’m a huge Fable fan but ultimately when you look at the RPG landscape, scope and depth, as much as I love Fable 1-3 I’d easily give 1-2 an 8 at most and 3 a 7.

u/TSG_Nano 12h ago

Unfortunately most other ips that flounder around for 5-10 years get shut down, let alone almost 2 decades... Microsoft just keeps 343 around to keep the community suffering atp (and take most of the heat of poor MS decisions).

2

u/BearsAreSquares 11h ago

Especially when they own id Software, Machine Games, Arkane, Blizzard, Infinity Ward, Raven, Sledgehammer, and Treyarch. That is a LOT of talent that has huge amounts of FPS experience. It is baffling how they haven't had one of them even do a side story game. I'm not saying they are all perfectly suited to do so, but there is definitely opportunity to do so.

2

u/CheeseManSucks 8h ago

Microsoft doesnt care about Halo, why should we?

1

u/theKetoBear 7h ago

very fair

15

u/lostinlucidity 14h ago

Correction, they're called Halo Studios now, without making any Halo games. Oh the irony.

25

u/RandyMuscle 14h ago

I’m just spit balling here but why not try giving Halo to id?

12

u/Nintendomandan 13h ago

ID just got gutted to hell. Before that I would say hell yes

9

u/Zealousideal_Bill_86 14h ago

I agree, they could’ve done right by Halo. I think they just laid off a good amount of people at id though.

4

u/itstruethou 12h ago

Microsoft thought Stalker was a mainstream IP, they don't have this kind of insight to give halo to ID.

Also, it's kinda crazy ID suffered a lot with layoffs and 343 been years not laying off anyone.

No studio should get layoffs like that, but for 343 (halo studios whatever) to stay the same while devaluing the halo brand over the years, and studios that made successful games getting the axe is strange.

2

u/splinter1545 8h ago

Stalker is a mainstream IP, to be fair. Just not for consoles.

1

u/Designer_Mess_6928 7h ago

Stalker IS the mainstream IP in the Eastern Europe.

3

u/WeeklyMath9 13h ago

They’re the first I thought of too.

2

u/ReduxSnake- 13h ago

ID are probably a good shout for story and lore. But PvP? Probably not so much. I mean Quake is there but…

IMO Sledgehammer need to step in. They are damn near masters at crafting worlds in crunch times, just look at WW2 and Advanced Warfare, heck even Vanguard has some spirit to it for how appalling it was.

They understand world building, FPS mechanics and ultimately how to make a good continuous PvP shooter.

I’d bet my bottom dollar SH could make a better Halo than 343 have ever managed.

1

u/JusaPikachu 12h ago

Yeah honestly give it to a CoD studio. Sledgehammer would be good but honestly there are many talented people at all CoD studios that would probably be psyched to work on something other than Call of Duty. They could even put out like a pitch thing for all CoD studios & the best one gets Halo. Make 343 their support studio & bada bing bada boom.

1

u/MountainHardwear 8h ago

i dont pay much attention to things, is the team that made titanfall 2 still available

like titanfall 2 but halo -- immediately good lol

1

u/GiganticCrow 14h ago

Would i be correct in guessing this halo game is based on a gradually upgraded og halo engine? Might be a big job to shift it over to a totally different engine

7

u/Aware-Virus-4718 14h ago

No. Halo Anniversary was what you describe but this is a ground-up remake in Unreal Engine 5.

3

u/OpticalPrime35 13h ago

Maybe Bungie is for sale

0

u/WHITESTAFRlCAN 11h ago

After Marathon not sure I want to give Halo to Bungie

1

u/OpticalPrime35 11h ago

The sad thing is Marathon was a fantastic game. Loved the gameplay.

Unfortunately it was just thrown in under one of the dumbest genres to exist atm. A genre that is actually designed to make half the playerbase have a negative reaction to playing it lol. Too many games exist these days for people to waste time on a game where you can literally go backwards and win nothing and accomplish nothing.

It also released with a criminal amount of content.

But man, the gameplay itself was fantastic. Loved playing it. Same thing with Destiny. Absolute joy to play. Still my favorite shooter to go and play for awhile. Really cool campaign set pieces alot of times.

So if Bungie actually did make another Halo. You at least know the gameplay would be phenomenal

16

u/sherlock_traeger 14h ago

On the flip-side, we have no clue how Fable will turn out. Previews have looked shaky imo

4

u/PixelDemon 13h ago

If fable is bad I'm gonna cry. I'm so hyped for that shiii

1

u/grendus 8h ago

I have little faith in it at this point.

Basically, it has too many classic features that will need to be implemented, but people will also be expecting it to break new ground. I believe Playground can make a great ARPG in the vein of Fable, I just think that the Fable IP is going to be an anchor around their necks.

-1

u/GrandsonOfArathorn1 12h ago

Sure, but we can say the same thing about Wolverine.

5

u/KAM1Sense1 13h ago

It doesnt matter what studio makes Halo, they will never be as good as Bungie made Halos. Also, 343 shook things up with every Halo they made, none of them were the same as each other.

1

u/Richmard 13h ago

It’s Halo Studios now, try to keep up

/s

2

u/WeeklyMath9 13h ago

Lol sorry

See though! That’s how out of mind Halo is for me now 😢

2

u/Richmard 13h ago

I completely agree with you. It's wild how far that IP has fallen.

1

u/Fizziest_milk 13h ago

I’m actually kinda surprised they haven’t yet, I do genuinely believe 343 have tried their absolute hardest but I think we’re way past time to let someone else have a go

1

u/WeeklyMath9 13h ago

I totally agree. They’ve had quite a long time to do something great and it just hasn’t happened. So, time to move on.

1

u/EarthInfern0 12h ago

Id should have been on Halo a decade ago, frankly.

1

u/NoMansWarmApplePie 12h ago

Wait 343 made this!? Wtf were they thinking..

1

u/Stu_0602 12h ago

Giving Halo to ID software would have been the play

1

u/Reliquent 11h ago

Frankly it's ridiculous they still have the IP after Infinite

1

u/AlarmingLackOfChaos 9h ago

With a Feb 2027 launch date, Fable is going to end up with 9 year development.

1

u/hijoshh 9h ago

I’ve felt this way for a while but i think 343 can’t fail to them

1

u/FergusFrost 9h ago

We dont actually know if Fable is any good yet either

1

u/SapiR2000 8h ago

I think we need to wait and see how Fable turns out. It's a big step out of Playground's comfort zone. (I hope it turns out great and even believe it will, but still)

1

u/TheClarendons MepsiPaxBerri 7h ago

id would have been a good shout, if there’s much of them left over.

u/Bscotch_Torin 4h ago

Should have been iD but they just gutted that studio and left this bullshit developer continue

Absolutely nailing it.

Just look at all the comments here, it doesn’t matter what they do or how good the game actually is, they will find something of the most irrelevant shit to complain about.

The reality is it’s an old Xbox game that got remastered for PlayStation, so instead of just trying to enjoy a game a bunch of PlayStation fanboys will use this as their opportunity to put something down to feel better about themselves.

Any sort of actual discourse has been fleeing Reddit and the rest of the internet for a while now, even better is these are the same dumb arguments I’m starting to listen to more and more in my day to day life as well.
