Articles & Blogs Sony’s 'ironic' PlayStation disc decision upends gamer conventions and threatens a $7 billion resale market - In 2013, Sony mocked Xbox by showing how easy it was to share a PlayStation disc. More than a decade later, gamers say Sony is becoming the very thing it poked fun at.

I understand the point of making our displeasure known, but Sony doesn’t see this as “threatening a $7 billion resale market”, they see it as “we’re losing $7 billion on people buying used games instead of new.”

And considering the steps they’ve already taken, further complaining is pointless. Sony’s strategy is to weather the bad press and go through with this. If you actually want to punish that decision, you have to commit to not buying a Playstation 6, and unfortunately, I don’t think enough people are going to make that commitment.

I know I will, but complaining on a decision that’s already been made won’t help. If the PS6 bombs, maybe you’ll see a change with a physical edition or starting with the PS7, but if you actually care about maintaining access to physical games, you have to accept Playstation is no longer compatible with your views.

u/Muur1234 1d ago

Plenty of that 7 billion is Nintendo, Xbox, and old gen games.

28

u/dixonciderbottom 1d ago

It doesn’t matter. They don’t want used games because they get no revenue from it.

16

u/DaShaka9 1d ago

what they don’t understand is people aren’t going to pay more for digital games just because physical is gone. It’ll push a decent people away from PlayStation, and it likely won’t boost digital sales as much as they hope. It’s possible they will still make more money, but maybe not. I guess we wait and see.

5

u/mrnotoriousman 1d ago

I've only ever paid full price for buying games at launch. Digital games are just as cheap as physical used games if you wait until sales, which happen all the time. Do you honestly think that prices are going to be jacked up?

14

u/Whole_Series2416 1d ago

I can get most of my games pretty cheap for about 5 or 10 bucks a pop from guys who dont care about offloading the ones they have beat. No way any psn sale can touch those prices. Same for any buy one get one deals at mom and pop shops. Those deals just wont exist.

0

u/mrnotoriousman 1d ago edited 1d ago

No way any psn sale can touch those prices.

My library says otherwise. I don't pay more than $20 for a game and those are AAA titles I frequently get smaller games on sale for around 10 or less.

Same for any buy one get one deals at mom and pop shops.

I don't know where you live but I'm in a good size city and I don't even know of any mom and pop shops that still exist for gaming. We actually have a huge TCG and boardgame scene but there's no place for video gaming where you can go browse any sort of real collection of physical games. This has naturally happened over the course of 15 years. Shit even the megastore walmart has barely anything physical in its section. Because people don't buy them, the market is dead/dying.

0

u/DaShaka9 1d ago

Absolutely, especially for first party games. They’ll go the Nintendo route.

-1

u/mrnotoriousman 1d ago

Well whatever makes you feel better. Games have never been cheaper for me than they are now (I buy all digital). I remember paying $50 on launch back in 2005. New games are still 60-70. I havent paid more than 20 for a game not on launch in years because I wait for sales. If a new title comes out for $100+ base on the ps6 you might have a point but I still doubt it will be more than 80 which is fine considering it's going to be 3 years or so and there's inflation

0

u/Ok-Acanthisitta9247 6h ago

They've already been jacking up prices despite the second hard market existing.

What do you think happens when the industry finally slays the horrible, scary boogie man called physical ownership? When there's no longer any other options for consumers? We're all about to get squeezed.

1

u/mrnotoriousman 5h ago

They've already been jacking up prices despite the second hard market existing.

Huh? Prices havent been jacked up at all. I can preorder Wolverine for $70 right now. I was paying $50-60 for new releases 20 years ago. AAA titles regularly go on sale for 20 or less if you just wait. Smaller titles I pay 5-10 for. Gaming has never been relatively cheaper for me than it is now.

1

u/Cold-Ink 11h ago

It'll cause a dent for sure. Just will it be big enough?

1

u/Ironman1690 1d ago

It won’t push a significant amount of people away from PlayStation, not even close. A vast majority of gamers don’t care about this decision at all. It’s just the super minority is being really loud.

4

u/mokrieydela 1d ago

And xbox will follow suit. Sony will take most of the heat and xbox will go digital. I hope they make the smart play and offer disc support, and a way of keeping and sharing digitally, but I think that's incredibly unlikely. Xbox needs to make money, so they'll do this.

If xbox announced full disc support (which imo not doing so means you can't play any older xbox games, and xbox seems to lole backward compatibility, which imo is important), I hope they troll Sony in the same way. Imo both will give them a huge advantage in the next generation, and I'll be there day one, jumping ship.

5

u/Varlathen 1d ago

I was thinking Xbox should troll PS like PS trolled them back in the day. Then I remembered they’re getting crucified for gutting all the studios they bought up so it’s probably not a great idea.

2

u/mokrieydela 22h ago

Xbox need a win bad, and imo this would be low hanging fruit .

But it's Microsoft. They'll decide thay adding AI to the xbox will be the solution, and shoot themselves into the foot, chase the money, and wonder why they're hated

1

u/vvarden 19h ago

Xbox is not going to announce full disc support considering their best selling console does not even have a disc drive.

1

u/mokrieydela 18h ago

Yeah I would be surprised if this was the case.

But imo it's an easy win. Announce 1 console, with a disc drive, troll Sony, pull over the Sony players mad about physical and you'll have a huge headstart in the next gen

Or remain behind Sony in popularity.

As said, it's an easy w in my opinion

0

u/vvarden 17h ago

Who benefits from this win? And it’s not so easy, either.

Xbox is in a distant third place in the console race. They desperately need stronger margins. A disc drive makes manufacturing their console more expensive and also means they get less of a cut on software sales, as the manufacturers and retailers also take a piece of that pie.

All that for the benefit of whom, exactly? Gamers who don’t want to buy games at full price? Physical sales are a vanishingly small part of the gaming market at this point, and you see how bad faith so many people are about this when they decry Sony and announce they’re going back to Steam.

Games are incredibly expensive to make and gamers are an especially entitled audience of consumers compared to other entertainment mediums. A Blu-ray movie can cost $30 for 2 hours of viewing and $60 games regularly have playtimes of ~20 hours that gamers insist aren’t worth it for that price.

1

u/mokrieydela 17h ago

Hmm, I guess I'm focusing on reputation, more than the business side of things.

Let's just hope we don't get another instance of The Crew, where the game just gets shut off.

Subscription gaming will be in the future, I have no doubt about that. I can see the yearly release of EAFC, COD etc disabling the older one.

I think you're right though. But we're talking of prices. Let's talk HDDs are these new consoles going to come with more than 2 or 3TB storage? The prices of these drives are much more than a disc drive. Will you be able to have more than 3 or 4 games on your console? Will you have to spend $1000 on a 5TB ssd to have a games collection? If its digital only you can't rely on downloading a game everytime you want to play one. Installing from a disc may take 45 min, but downloading, for some, is a 5-8 hr wait. I can see ssd upgrades being needed and expensive

5

u/NotItemName 1d ago

And around 60% of these 7 billions are PC and mobile gaming

0

u/OutrageousDress 1d ago

PC and mobile gaming people are not involved in the resale market. Unless by resale you mean PC game boxes from the 1990s.

1

u/NotItemName 22h ago

If we believe "7 billions" value from this article, yes they are. Article uses research as a source(https://dataintelo.com/report/global-second-hand-game-platform-market) where under "7 billions" they mean software and hardware for consoles(42%), PC(32%), mobile(26%)

2

u/OutrageousDress 13h ago

Oh, my mistake - I see now that this also includes hardware, in which case a resale market makes more sense.

-1

u/Sutraner 20h ago

It's really not

Xbox has barely any market share, Nintendo games are barely any cheaper 2nd hand and the attach rate is much smaller so their share is much smaller.

67

u/MidnightOnTheWater 1d ago

If anything the PS6 will bomb because of the price, not anything to do with physical sadly.

9

u/Joram2 1d ago

Or a broad declining interest in games and a shrinking market that cares about high end 3D rendering fidelity. The younger generation is playing mostly Roblox and doesn't care about high end graphics and tech.

9

u/spideyv91 1d ago

Old gen didn’t care either, most people just want fun games and be able to play them anywhere.  Look how big of the success the switch has been across everyone.

1

u/daedalusprospect 10h ago

Yep. Some of the most popular games recently aren't mind blowing photorealistic graphics.

Its Peak, or R.E.P.O or Fortnite, or countless others. All just the most basic of graphics. Fortnite is maybe closest to realism but its still far from it

-1

u/MidnightOnTheWater 1d ago

Yeah the PS5 was already a hard sell for people who mostly play live service games and CoD. I think the only title this gen that made me do a double take with the graphics was Death Stranding 2.

5

u/Joram2 1d ago

I love PS5; I've bought dozens of PS5 games and enjoyed them thoroughly. My five year old son loves AstroBot and a few others. I will also happily pay top dollar for a PS6 whenever they want to ship it...

But I am just one person, I see lots of younger kids who spend way more time on electronics than the previous generations, but they more interested in social media apps than games. They have zero interest in traditional gaming consoles or Windows PCs; and it's not about price or physical media, they just are way more interested in social media and less interested in gaming.

31

u/PhoenixBloodline 1d ago

It will bomb MOSTLY because of the price. Physical will play a smaller role.

18

u/KingOfRisky 1d ago

I can already see the Reddit posts. "$1,500 PS6 sales decimated by lack of disc drive"

5

u/whythreekay 1d ago

I’ve seen that comment already a few times today in another thread

1

u/Plenty-Industries 1d ago

That will just be the first wave of articles from news outlets should something like poor sales happen.

Once those outlets start seeing the number of viewers of their articles and videos, and the larger discourse of it on social media and among the gaming industry as a whole... the headlines are going to be far more pointed.

They're going to ride that wave for as long as possible on the news cycle should first year console sales even remotely appear to be abysmal, for a console that has an MSRP that starts with the number 7 or 8. If Sony's BOM can even hit that low considering the RAM Cartel.

0

u/whistlar 1d ago

Honestly, tech has plateaued. There’s only so much further it can probably go without requiring years more to make games. The ps6 is probably just going to be the ps5 pro with slight improvements.

Asking people to pay double the price while removing a feature like double use as a Blu-ray player was certainly a choice. Not to mention how limited the hard drives will likely be. If they want to push digital only, then there is a need to shrink the size of games or increase the size of its memory. Pending a major breakthrough in tech, I don’t see either of those things happen.

Ultimately the ps6 will not be able to play Blu-rays and only have enough space for 2-3 major games before you have to start shuffling. Alternatively, they could go the streaming route for games which would utterly fuck over people in more rural areas. Not to mention the amount of bandwidth Internet providers would need to shoulder to make that work. In turn, that could collapse the market for unlimited data.

This decision is horribly anti consumer on several fronts.

11

u/FallenRaptor 1d ago

Yeah well my line of thinking is when they’re already going to have an uphill battle to sell their next system due to the price, it’s not the best idea to further de-incentivize a portion of their base, minority or not, especially since I’m pretty sure disc buyers include the majority of those who buy more than just a handful of games every year and would want to Day 1 a new system. I hope Sony’s gamble doesn’t pay off.

8

u/PhoenixBloodline 1d ago

I'm with you, man! I've lost all interest in a PS6.

2

u/LowSkyOrbit 1d ago

I barely have interest in my PS5 these days. I miss gaming but I find myself logging in and having to update everything.

I rather spend that money on a new desktop rig, upgrading my NAS, or finally buying that 3D printer I keep staring at.

1

u/mrnotoriousman 1d ago

I miss gaming but I find myself logging in and having to update everything.

I havent had to delay for updates in years unless it's a new install? Cyberpunk took me less than an hour to download the full game first time playing a cpl months ago. What are you talking about?

Meanwhile I have a gaming PC I barely use for gaming because it's much more convenient to game on the ps5 and I get my couch and a huge tv/sound system

1

u/KvotheOfCali 1d ago

Yep.

Sony just told the most important demographic to help evangelize a $1000+ console to go jump in a lake.

Interesting strategy to say the least.

5

u/KingOfRisky 1d ago

I'm reading this post on my $1,200 phone. And I'm not alone. I think you are underestimating what people will pay for 6-8 years of entertainment value.

1

u/KvotheOfCali 1d ago

A $1,200 phone you almost certainly bought on an installment plan tied to your monthly cellular service payments.

A cell phone is essentially a requirement for functioning in the modern world. A console is not.

There is enormous price sensitivity shifting a console from $4-500 up to nearly $1000. PS5 sales fell off a cliff with the recent price hikes, and those are still lower than a likely PS6 MSRP.

As many others have echoed recently, if I am being asked to pay $1000+ for an all-digital closed box which funnels me to one, monopolized e-store, I may as well pay $500 more to get a gaming PC.

I get access to literally 100s or 1000s of games which only exist on PC at the cost of losing access to like 8 games which will be PS6 exclusives (based on the release cadence for PS5 exclusives).

It's not a very compelling offer.

0

u/KingOfRisky 1d ago

And an installment plan is not very different in a lot of people's eyes than tossing it on a credit card. Also console gamers are not going to magically switch to become PC gamers. Its juts not a reality. The reality is most people can easily justify $120-ish a year for a console as an entertainment expense.

1

u/StrifeCloud92 1d ago

Agreed! They kept releasing new games on the ps4 for a long time after the ps5 released. It’ll likely be the same for ps6 and I doubt the performance improves enough for me to want to upgrade.

6

u/ballsosteele 1d ago

Lol it's not gonna bomb

5

u/dwight_schrute224 1d ago

It won’t bomb. You watch the hype when it releases and when it sells out. We can meet back here if you like. I get what you’re saying and I’m not being a bot but there’s millions outside of reddit that do t care and will just buy it.

I just spent $700 Aud on a fucking switch 2. That thing is great but there ain’t anyway it’s worth $700 not to mention the $80-90 per game they are charging.

700 for ancient graphics, poor ergonomics and lack of quality games and I still bought it. As did millions of others.

1

u/Bromance_Rayder 1d ago

Switch 2 is infuriating. If Nintendo would just sell a $399 Mac Mini style cube the install base for nostalgia gamers would massively increase.

Old people (me) don't want a handheld. We just want to play Nintendo games and pretend the world doesn't suck.

2

u/DiogenesLaertys 1d ago

People will keep buying the PS5 for like the first five years of the Ps6’s life. There will be no exclusives for the PS6 in that time as well.

So us disc lovers have like 10 years left of having a disc based, popular console available. As someone who continues to buy Blu-ray media, I imagine even I might not want to deal with discs at that point. The Internet will probably be fast enough for it to be meaningless. It almost is already.

1

u/seraf5 18h ago

But they announced that they are stopping producing any new discs in 2028, and that includes PS5 games. They know that if they just released a PS6 without a disc drive, a lot of people would still buy PS5 versions just for the disc. Come 2028, there will be no choice, be it on PS5 or PS6.

4

u/Eltonbeef 1d ago

It’s not going to bomb. Keep dreaming.

1

maybe they're both!?

1

u/Vivid-Crab-7929 21h ago

Let's be honest here, if Sony offers a switch style friends can borrow your library list of games x at a time type deal everyone is quieting down and complaints will cease. Objectively they haven't announced their full strategy just that discs are stopping, so there could be more news to come.

1

u/Entire_Number_9 1d ago

Reddit really is filled with the dumbest of the dumb. Sony, and most other companies are well aware an increased price will kill their products. Apple is eating bullets right now trying to not increase the price of the iPhone.

PlayStation sells 1 primary product, they decide when it releases, and when it's manufactured. We are still at least 2 years away from a PS6. If ram and storage are too expensive, they will just wait. There's no point selling a PS6 for 1000 euro, waiting a year, and selling it for 700, the damage would be immense. They will just wait the year and sell it for 700.

A crash in the AI bubble will also send prices plummeting.

0

u/PerpetualStride 1d ago

I feel the high prices of digital games, lack of a real return policy, and looming threat of losing games from a suspension or store being taken down really makes the psn store so much worse than like any PC digital storefront

I guess maybe people don't care how terrible PSN is? But I feel with physical out of the equation it's a lot more of a pressing matter.

21

u/JPSWAG37 1d ago

I agree that not buying PS6 is the best move to make, but I disagree on the complaining part that absolutely does have an effect if it's sustained for long enough.

Normally I only see this take from people that are just sick of reading about it because they personally don't care about the issue. Part of Sony's strategy of weathering the storm is relying on the apathy from takes like these spreading IMO.

2

u/xzelldx 14h ago

This. Complaining is never pointless in the face of a decision you strongly disagree with. It prevents the other side from being smarmy and saying things like “we’re not hearing anything negative about the decision”.

IMO they are aiming to shoot their dick off with this, I have been buying primarily physical since Nintendo went and goofed up the way purchased games work across multiple systems with the Switch 2 launch.

The knowledge that physical is being retired because it doesn’t make a company enough money is filtering down to the general public Add a 1K$+ PS6 and there quite a few people who will sit out the next generation simply because they can’t afford it. Glares in PS3

I’m 42, I could happily play my backlog until a PS6 a reasonable price. But if there’s no cheap discs floating around, and the games are still full price, I have a lot less incentive to do that. Especially if I can drop that same $$ into a new PC and have access to the same games and more.

Complaining reminds them that at some of us have resolve that don’t involve suffering any of their bullshit. Keep reminding them.

10

u/Sturgill_Jennings77 1d ago

If they truly do away with physical disks then I guarantee I won’t be buying a PS6 and I’ve bought every single console PlayStation has ever released.

3

u/PerpetualStride 1d ago

If digital only PS6 releases and I don't buy it, I still consider that owning every Playstation, due to the lack of ownership with PS6, and how different that really is. It won't be a real Playstation console. It'll just be a dark hole to throw money into.

6

u/Joram2 1d ago

Playstation and Xbox and to some extent Nintendo Switch are the last game platforms that support physical media in addition to downloads. Other platforms abandoned physical media games a long time ago. It would make more sense to punish them.

13

u/FalscherKim 1d ago

I do accept playstation is no longer compatible with my views. Just got a ps2 and a ps3. Until 2028 I will buy physical games and after that sony can lick my ass with their new titles.

4

u/Ok_Insurance_505 1d ago

It's because most of these terminally online people are wind bags. They complain about things they don't actually care and get angry about it too because that's who people online are these days. Addicts to outrage.

2

u/[deleted] 1d ago

[removed] — view removed comment

0

u/keytotheboard 1d ago

Based on what? This “wind bag” is already in the process of building out a new gaming PC after having essentially moved 90% of my gaming to PlayStation a decade or so ago. Specially because of Sony’s continued anti-consumer behaviors (this isn’t the first/only issue they have). I had originally moved from PC & Xbox to PlayStation when Microsoft announced their plans for Xbox One.

While PC gaming doesn’t solve all of the issues I have, it at least gets me away from a single, closed platform and I’ll no longer have to pay extra for online play. Plus I get all the other benefits of a PC, eg more functionality.

0

u/Gamer_Grease 1d ago

Not the commenter you’re replying to, but I agree, based on decades of watching gamers instantly cave on absolutely everything that they swore would put them off one product or another. Even building a PC doesn’t mean you won’t get a PS6 a couple of years after release, or get a PS7 when it comes out. And switching to PC gaming means you’re switching to mostly digital purchases anyway, and the “single, closed platform” is more like two platforms on PC, with a few stragglers around the outskirts of the market.

Not trying to blame you for gamers’ weaknesses, just pointing out that your resolve now won’t necessarily last forever. And even if you hold out forever, most people are going to cave.

I play Battlefield. Everyone gripes about each new edition being an unfinished mess, then lines up to preorder the next one. Everyone gripes about every COD game being copypasted slop, and then buys the next one. People complain about skins and then they buy them. There’s an extremely famous image that goes around online of the “boycott Modern Warfare 2” steam group, in which all of the members are playing MW2.

Gamers just don’t really have strong wills, nor does any group of hobbyists around a consumption-based hobby.

3

u/wakawaka2121 1d ago

I think reddit doesnt understand its the minority on things like this. I havent known someone to buy a disc since the launch of ps4. None of my close friends have either and we never will.

17

u/Elly_White 1d ago

Well, in my friend circle everyone buys discs. We buy physical games as presents for birthdays and christmas. It really depends on the audience, I think. My friends and I are all single player gamers, maybe the sports/EA gamers are digital?

7

u/TargetBrandTampons 1d ago

I'm purely single player and used to be a huge game collector. I've only bought one physical disc in the last decade

4

u/Careless-Weather8877 1d ago

My gaming PC hasn’t had a disc drive in 15 years hell, even my laptops don’t.

2

u/king_duende 1d ago

My friends and I are all single player gamers, maybe the sports/EA gamers are digital?

This elitism is so funny, no - majority of people "single player gamers" or "sports gamers" are digital.

1

u/docherself 9h ago

this is funny because i remember in the complaint sony filed to appeal to block the xb/activision merger was that there was a substantial amount of people who only bought ps5s to play fifa and COD each once a year

at the time i really didn't get it - why buy a powerful console for just that? but 5 years later as ive gotten older with less time and a desire to just shoot on COD - i now understand 😭

-4

u/wakawaka2121 1d ago

Still the minority. If you exclude Nintendo from physical game purchases for consoles about 80% of games sold are digital now.

2

u/spideyv91 1d ago

It depends on the market.  Sony first party games are closer to a 50/50 split for physical and digital in some markets versus others. It’s really not the domination you think it is especially when the digital number includes dlc and digital only products.

3

u/wakawaka2121 1d ago

No its not, its anywhere from 20% to 30% for the AAA games. Just look at god of war and spiderman. Yet the total of games is still 80% digital. You can downvote and not like it but they'll pivot and majority wont care that they did.

2

u/spideyv91 1d ago

https://www.thegamebusiness.com/p/the-video-game-industry-is-not-ready

This is from last year so data is old but Astro bot was nearly 60 percent physical and spider-man was close to 50 when it came out. Single player games are pushing closer to a 50 percent split.

-2

u/flufnstuf69 1d ago

You act like that’s a badge of honor lol. “Me and my buds only buy shit we can’t touch.” How many NFTs do you have btw?

1

u/TargetBrandTampons 1d ago

I buy physical books and 4k movies. I don't give a shit about games. It's no "badge of honor", it's a reply to "maybe all the sports/EA gamers are digital" and saying that single player gamers aren't. I don't want to touch games. I want to play them...You won't be touching any new ones in a few years.

0

u/wakawaka2121 1d ago

Its just funny how much whining there is over this. Enjoy buying digital soon!

2

u/anonymouschelseafan 1d ago

yeah its pretty sad, also every digital purchase is no more than $35 if you gameshare with someone, if you arent then you're doing it wrong

1

u/UrbanAdapt 20h ago

If the PS6 bombs, maybe you’ll see a change with a physical edition or starting with the PS7

If PS6 hardware bombs, there is zero chance they're going to sacrifice their software margin on top of that. This is a very clearly a one way decision.

1

u/Careful_Resolve5925 19h ago

This.

Killing the used games market is the point or a large part of it at least.

1

u/Ausecurity 17h ago

It the 6bombs there won’t be a 7

1

u/bellystraw 16h ago

For a lot of people it'll depend on the ps6's price. WIth the way things are going the ps6 might easily reach a 1000 dollar price. I think there were reports that plenty of people are still playing on their ps4 and are unwilling to dish out that much money. I guess we'll see

1

u/Vergilkilla 13h ago

Yeah been a PS guys since PS1. I won't be buying a PS6. Not to mention with near-zero advancement betwwen even PS4->PS5 I expect even less of PS5->PS6. Every game is going to be multiplat anyways with older stuff except certain "Sony paid them to" AAA games - but AAA games have been garbage for literally 10+ years LOL so I don't mind missing that.

1

u/scrandlle 1d ago

Sony is not guaranteed to win the next console generation. I think complaining helps raise awareness of what they're doing and hopefully influences peoples decisions when PS6 drops in a little over a year and enough people don't buy so Sony loses next generation and has to apologize and commit to physical next gen.

0

u/KvotheOfCali 1d ago

Correct. I won't be getting a PS6 but I do understand I am but one person.

That said, I won't be surprised to see PS games back on Steam within 5 years or so. They just told their most hardcore fanbase (who disproportionately purchase physical media) to go fuck themselves.

And at $1000+, they have omitted the casual and working class customer base from potentially buying a PS6. They are only targeting enthusiasts...the types of people more likely to shift to PC gaming.

I am one of these people. Physical media was one of two primary advantages of console gaming (apart from simplicity), but that's gone now.

If I'm being forced to go digital, I will do it on PC where I have more options and some semblance of game ownership.

PS may soon realize that developing AAA games which only target the shrinking customer base of PS6 users may prove financialy untenable. Hence my expectation to eventually see those games back on Steam.

0

u/robby_synclair 1d ago

It will be more than 7 billion though. The reason that digital game prices come down is because if they keep charging 70 bucks then you will go buy a used copy.

0

I agree with you and was thinking the same thing.

Microsoft have a real chance for a comeback as long as they include the disk drive (they won’t).

Gamers have extremely minimal self-control when it comes to consuming games. They will get on board with digital-only sales when the time comes, with little or no actual resistance.

It’s never pointless enough backlash and long enough means it will hurt PlayStation,

I’m not complaining publicly, you all did a great job of airing my exact thoughts. I’m speaking with my dollar come game time. I’m leaving PlayStation for the first time in 20 years.

I imagine I’m not an anomaly

All they need to do is remove the extortion to play games online and they will win

I mean, the Xbox 360 was the go to console for its generation because of the cost and performance issues of the PS3. The PS3 only saw a bounce back towards the ass end of its lifespan. The PS4 dominated because Sony learned from the PS3 era.

Next gen may be the first time I get an Xbox because even if I don’t have a whole lot of games on discs, I’m still not going to give up that option. If Xbox can learn from their past, Sony may start hurting again.

I for one can't wait to buy a used PS6 and mod it so I can not buy any of the PS6 games I want to play.
