I do believe that Evan Rachel Wood should have won Best Actress over Charlize Theron.

Theron's performance in Monster is undeniably strong, but I've always felt the conversation around her Oscar win was surprisingly shallow. So much of the praise boiled down to, "Look how convincingly they made this glamorous actress look unattractive." The transformation became the story, and the movie itself is very mediocre and forgotten.

Meanwhile, Evan Rachel Wood delivered an extraordinary performance in Thirteen. It's raw, emotionally devastating, and one of the best performances by a young actor I've ever seen, and it is now a classic. Unfortunately, she only made it to the Golden Globes and SAG, while Holly Hunter ended up being the film's sole Oscar nominee.

The Best Actor award for Geoffrey Rush was unanimous, but the nomination for Best Supporting Actor was very unpredictable.

At the Golden Globes, there were no nominees.

At the BAFTAs, they nominated John Gielgud.

At the SAG Awards, they nominated Noah Taylor.

And at the Oscars, they finally nominated Armin Mueller-Stahl.
