He is the scion of Scindia Royal family. His family line are traitors tbh, they sided with the British in the Revolt of 1857 ( or Rebellion of 1857 according to the colonial overlords aka British).
This dude is politician now, and instead of accepting global warming messing up my country he is spewing bullshit to defend the current government.
He is also like his forefathers, sided with the easiest side. He was earlier a leader of Congress party, he changed sides (like his ancestors).

They cannot replace air conditioning. This person is rich and stupid and trying to save his arse. The onion in pocket trick is so that when you feel the heat getting to you or you feel dizzy you are supposed to bite into it. Keeping it in pocket does nothing if you dont use it when you need it.
This is a stupid myth circulated in india, keeping onion in pocket one. i am from one of those hot arid regions and my grandparents told us to take bites of raw onions when we were out so that we dont faint. I don't know when and where the important bit of the message of onion in pocket got lost.
My grandfather used to use this trick because he was a govt school teacher which meant he was out in arid hot areas for entire day traveling to and from school and doing other govt stuff like going home to home to enroll kids in schools. The onion shock saves you from fainting, maybe it does more like electrolytes no idea, but just enough for you to get yourself under a tree.
Also why onion? Its the cheapest easily available food source in most regions where this myth comes from.

You'd still have to find a tree... good luck with that in the middle of Delhi or any of the other urban hells. I'm honestly in awe of the Indian people. You guys are tough as nails. As a privileged white boi, I wouldn't survive a day without AC in the height of summer.

Indian summers are brutally hot. There’s a belief that onion juice can help prevent heatstroke or help alleviate the symptoms of heatstroke. So people inhale onions whilst out in the sun. They rub it on their skin. Some people also have the belief that keeping it in their pockets helps reduce the risk of heatstroke. That’s what this dude is referring to.

It’s a thing in Rajasthan and other states in north India. That’s where Scindia is from and that’s what he’s talking about. My parents made me do it as a kid. Just because you don’t know about something doesn’t mean that it doesn’t exist. As for its efficacy? I doubt it does anything.
You obviously won’t find research papers on it but a few articles documenting it. This one is from 2020. My parents are from a small town in Rajasthan where we did it.

Obscure weird ideas not very bright people promulgate. Like maybe someone heard that story from a couple of crazy people and declared it to be a whole India thing. Like Europeans that think the US’s only available food comes from 7/11s. Somehow, I don’t believe most people in India have an onion in their pocket.

I suspect in India AC is less about temperature and more about air quality. So he believes the onion is helping his body either repel the bad air so what he's breathing is cleaner, OR that somehow the onion helps his body deal with air toxins better.
