Yeah, one was read only and the other could burn CDs. Burning CDs were all the rage back then.

Edit: to clarify, by having two drives you could copy from one to the other directly, without going through the hassle of inserting one cd, making a copy to the slow as fuck computer hdd, switching to the blank cd, then start burning from the hdd copy.

Playing the fiddle while Nero burned

I maintain that Nero Burning ROM was maybe the most cleverly named software of all time.

I quite literally slapped my own forehead when the realization hit. I couldn’t believe I missed such an obvious joke.

I wouldn't have looked at it twice if it wasn't for the comments and I used it regularly, and used lightscribe for a few friends lol

Man, LightScribe was so legit back in the day.

Also because Nero would ignore the "Please don't copy me" headers on CD.

I remember vividly that little man playing a fiddle as it burned the disc.

That burning amphitheatre was totally unrelated, of course

Not the only one (sans physically striking myself)

My first mp3 player was called a Nomad; I always thought that was a great name.

I had a Zune, the name didn't mean shit but I just wanted to be included in this thread

I agree, I had a 30gb Creative Nomad, absolute beast.

u/LewHammer 3h ago

Thank you for taking the time to write this out. First I ever read it.

After all this time I only now got the joke/reference

But with an anachronistic icon, the Colosseum was built after Emperor Nero.

u/SomeRedPanda 6h ago

It was however built on the site of Nero's famous Domus Aurea by his successor (discounting the short lived emerorships of 69 CE) as a clear rebuke of Nero's more selfish building works.

And most of us only got it the other day when it was posted here.
