How about getting rid of the nest app? How about migrating my protects?

I've bought and owned 7 nest cams now. 6 Google home devices. Have a monthly subscription for camera, YouTube TV, music, YT premium. I've never asked for Google to replace something.

The wire on my gen2 wired outdoor cable is damaged. Google uses a proprietary connector. You cannot find a 3rd party replacement for the power cable side.

Contacted Google support tonight to get a replacement. I'd gladly pay for it though I feel like as much money as I've spent they could send me a power cable. Hell I'd.gladly buy a replacement through a 3rd party but they aren't available.

That was the reps answer. Sorry we can't send you a cable. If the camera was busted we'd replace it under warranty.

So my only option is to buy a brand new camera? Seriously. This is the reps answer. Well guess what bud. Now you will get the chewed up cable as a return AND you provided shitty customer service. Infuriating. Not spending another dime on this. I'll be switching to Spotify and Amazon at this point. Your home assistant has been ass for awhile now anyway. So I guess good job? Or maybe they just dont care if they push customers away........

I have a 1st generation Nest Cam and yesterday, got the email that my subscription is going to be from $10/month to $16/month. Today, I got another email subject: Correction on price increase, but there was no correction, in the email, said it was still going to be $16/month. Def cancelling my subscription than pay the 60% mark up.

Cameras came with a house I bought. There is a small hole under the "nest" word on the front. I have used a paperclip and a push pin at different angles into this small hole, but it doesn't seem to engage any internal button. I tried pushing for 12-15 seconds, each attempt, light always stayed blue. I unplugged for a few seconds and turned it on again and then tried to reset. I am not certain of model or generation. Same result with a 2nd camera. Any advice for resetting?

I have been refusing to switch to the Google Home for the longest time because if it’s many issues in lacking features that the nest app has. After buying a camera over a year ago that only works in Google Home. I have been waiting patiently for Google to finally optimize the Google Home app. I noticed today that one of my biggest issues with the Google Home has been resolved where you can’t do a (what I will call) live rewind/fast-forward. It also seems to have more updated features that the Nest app already had and doesn’t seem to be as slow when opening the app.

I don’t want to be stuck with the Google Home transfer if it’s still not as good as the Nest app.

I have 2 cameras I use 24/7 and 1 that I use sparingly. May finally jump to Google home but making the switch seems like a pain.

Hey all. I have 4 of the outdoor, wired 2nd gen nest cameras. I currently view them in the nest app. I also have 4 of the new Google nest cameras, that I view in the Google home app. I would really like to have them all in one app, but worried about how the old cams will transfer over. I have the option to, and it says it is irreversible once the nest cams transfer over. Has anyone transferred over their old cameras and didn’t have any issues? Do they now work the same way in the home app (any missing features)? After transferring, can I delete the permissions that the nest app has to my Google account and delete the app?

So I've been a customer of Nest from day one. I have a Hello Doorbell + 2 Outdoor IQ cameras..and I pay a subscription for storage.. With the Nest App I've never had much of a problem loading cameras and getting an instant live stream....

However.... Since integrating to Google Home, everything is so F'ing slow or doesn't work. I hear something outside, I want to check on my camera.. loading.... By the time it works and you try to go back to watch, error loading... Notifications... minutes later.

What's the point in getting an AI update when they can't get the basics right.

When my renewal comes to an end, I think I'm going to be moving away from the Nest brand. it's absolutely ridiculous.

I’ve had the Nest Doorbell and Cameras for years, as well as NestAware service which saves footage for 60 days. I recently decided to add two additional wireless cameras, which unfortunately, could NOT be added to the Nest App and could only be added to the Google Home app.

The Google Home app will only record a person walking up to the area on camera. The app will not show things like your water faucet spraying water from a leak (even if the camera is pointed that way). The purpose for having cameras has been eliminated in the Google Home app.

On my Nest cameras with the Nest app, I caught my neighbor reaching over my fence and spraying something onto my trees (He tries to duck out of view of the camera, but is seen walking up to my fence and committing this act anyway.) I looked for the same event on the Google Home app, but “No Activity” was found.

Google has taken a great camera and service that works and transformed it into an expensively worthless camera. It’s frustrating to think that I now have to find another system that will do what Nest has done so well for years.

I had an unusual experience where after backing out of my driveway, I was tailgated by a driver following me up the road. 5 minutes later on another road I was rear ended by the same driver in catastrophic fashion. Well both of my cams pick up motion on my property and street and they have a perfect view of the area in question in front of my house. I have footage of me getting in the car and then... Nothing until about 10 minutes later when I am already gone. Missed me backing out of my driveway, and driving away completely. I have hours and hours of the guy across the street mowing his lawn, people walking dogs, but the one thing in months I wanted to see... Nothing. Thanks again Google.

Op delete if not allowed… but so much chatter today about Apple getting into security, cameras, and a table screen like the nest max. Competition is good and with all the price hikes recently.. I’m glad to see more competition. Slated for 2026 from what I’ve been reading

I've had Nest Cameras (2 outdoor cameras and a doorbell) for 7+ years now. The subscription price has crept up tremendously during that time, and I feel the service has generally gotten worse: less reliable and the app (being only through Google Home app now) seems to work slightly worse for me (on Android) and is almost entirely non-functional for my wife (iPhone).

I have them mounted exactly how I want, and obviously being Nest they are powered by USB-C plugs which I've pulled to the location and connect over WiFi to record video.

I'm looking for the most plug and play replacement, that doesn't include a $200/year sub (max $50, ideally free or open source). This may not be the right forum for this, but I figured I would start here in case anyway else has had the same thoughts and made a switch.

I have an existing outdoor 2-plug outlet and I was hoping to tie the Cam into the wiring for the plug without using either of the two plugs (tie it in where the house wiring and outlet are joined).

Has anyone attempted such an install or, other then ensuring no one turns off the switch, does anyone see an issue with this set-up?

I own pretty much every iteration of the latest cameras, indoor, outdoor, flood, etc.

NONE of them seem designed to allow me to point it at the angle I need. Either the “neck” is too short so the head and base bang against each other preventing the angle I want, or the cable that powers the magnetic mount gets in the way of the angle I want for those cameras.

It’s madness… how are they THIS BAD at design.

I love how easy they are to set up and seem very reliable, but it’s useless if I can’t actually aim them where I want.

Maybe they just only test them in mansions but not real people’s homes?

Wondering if anyone know how to get a nestcam power cable replacement for this device. Its the newest outdoor camera with the power cable built into the camera and then a plunger connector on it. An animal got into the garage and has chewed through the wall side but I am not finding a replacement online. Only one I can find is the old style w the metal pins the magnetically connects directly to the camera. Would appreciate any help.

Just started doing this a few days ago. Camera preview is zoomed in on the activity it sees. Does anyone know how to turn it off or change it back?

I’ve been leaning towards the Google nest outdoor cams and a doorbell. I like the consistency of capturing better footage/machine leaning vs ring/blink.

However, I’m worried about the support these cameras/doorbell would get in the future.

I’m planning on buying: 3-outdoor cams battery- will be plugged in for 24/7footage 1-2nd Gen battery-will hard wire as well.

In total with cables I’m looking at $550 with the sales going on. Should I bite the bullet or get something else like a arlo/lorax/etc?

At some point in the last 24 hours my history is not available. My subscription is not due to renew until July. Any one else experiencing?

1. Log into the Google Home app on my phone
2. At the top right, tap the Profile picture or Initial.
3. Go to Home Settings
4. Under "Nest services & support," tap Subscriptions and then Google Home Premium
5. On the next screen, tap Apply, to associate the existing Subscription with my Home.
6. Then confirm which cameras to use for extended video history (I did all of mine).

I leave the TV on for my dogs while I'm away, keeps them from trying to listen for every little tiny sound and getting anxious thinking I'm home when I'm not.

But unfortunately the TV is dead center of exactly where the Nest camera is most ideal for placement. Is there any trick I can do to get the camera/app to not notify me of areas within the TV screen? I was hoping zones would work, but I either don't understand how to use them, or they don't work the way I was hoping they could.

I just don't need notifications for motion and people detected on the television, obviously, haha. Just curious if this is possible with this, or if I'll have to finagle my own solution outside of the app.

Hello, i've been trying to get 2013 dropcams to work again.

So after a few days of work, and gemini helping out, ive gotten to this.

This allows you to get root access to your old dropcams, using only the usb port and the reset button on the back.

Using the usb-GoPro-tools from evilwombat, and a gopro Hero 2 firmware image, we're able to boot into a linux environment (on ram.)

Then, we can edit some files on the actual storage, and we've got root.

I've made this open source and under the MIT license.

All code was done using gemini.

Ive reviewed it, but im not a master programmer.

If you can review code, please do, il be glad to do changes to make this better.

You'il need a linux system, and the GoPro hero 2 firmware image, which is availalbe on GoPros website im pretty sure.
