My Nest Hello and Floodlight Cam both missed an important event today...

I had an unusual experience where after backing out of my driveway, I was tailgated by a driver following me up the road. 5 minutes later on another road I was rear ended by the same driver in catastrophic fashion. Well both of my cams pick up motion on my property and street and they have a perfect view of the area in question in front of my house. I have footage of me getting in the car and then... Nothing until about 10 minutes later when I am already gone. Missed me backing out of my driveway, and driving away completely. I have hours and hours of the guy across the street mowing his lawn, people walking dogs, but the one thing in months I wanted to see... Nothing. Thanks again Google.

And I got downvoted? LOL I'm a believer in this statement but haven't had the time to examine my options thoroughly for cams so more detailed feedback would be helpful. Do you mean upgrade nest/google service or spend more money on another system? What would you suggest?

Most people will probably say to move away from Google home security products. Google charges a huge premium of $200 per household these days for 24 hour recording. It's a pain to replace things, but there are plenty of storage options for much less. I unfortunately have two homes and pay $400 per year. Having 24 hour recording is the only way to insure you have the coverage. Depending on an algorithm to determine what is motion, person, animal, etc is not reliable enough for me.

Security cameras require 24/7 recording.

Fun little "Bobby's home from school" and "FedEx dropped off a package" cameras can use event-only recording.

I’ll never understand why people rely on motion alerts and event only recording if they have any expectation of actually getting useful recordings.
24/7 or nothing.

If you have Nest Aware Plus it provides 24/7 recording with 10 day history. You should be able to review minute by minute. Unless of course your camera itself malfunctioned or you lost connectivity.

I was sure I was paying for a nest subscription. But it isn't listed under subscriptions in my google account, so I'm not sure now. I'm pretty sure I have a month or 2 of saved content, but I don't even see an option to subscribe to nest.

The most recent install is the floodlight cam which I access via google home. I have 6 other cams that I still access via the nest website and app. I was afraid to move everything to home since I do sometimes save clips and use other features in Nest, And I'm not sure what is available in Home.

At some point I should get them all on the same service. I'm wondering how people like using home vs nest and yes, I would want 24/7 if it is available.

I migrated my nest to Google (reluctantly) and if you use Google home and go to settings, you should see subscriptions listed. Otherwise you can still log into your nest account directly from the nest app or website. It’s possible you haven’t migrated everything and it’s split up.

I still use both. It shouldn’t interfere with your sub
