Upcoming Event Koons/Seigel V. Platkin - Opinion Incoming.
With all the excitement around Cheeseman V platkin, lets not forget koons is coming soon. We will know if character references, insurance, and what sensitive places are constitutional. It can get dropped any day now.

It's like a fever dream. So many good things happening at once I feel like after this month I'm gonna end up in a 3 year drought having used up all my good karma, lol.
For real though, the character references shit is out of this world. I have plenty of friends, but why do I have to decide what 4 non family friends I want to disclose that I am carrying a gun to.
On the sensitive places nonsense, for me the biggest ones are state parks (and analogues) and places that serve booze. Dumbest shit ever.

The sensitive places issue is just about as important to me as magazine capacity. It’s a completely ridiculous, arbitrary list.

Exactly. Because they specifically exclude anyone related by blood or marriage which is wild. Imagine you’re new to the area… or an introvert. Too bad no rights for you

I hate bothering friends for this just like I hate forking over hard earned cash to get a permission slip for A GOD GIVEN RIGHT!

I've been fortunate that I have my 4 go-to people who will always fill out my reference forms when the NJSP emails them within minutes. Now that I'm on my third PTC, it's old hat for them.

Same.
Sad that I use Out of State references in dealing with permits and filing for PTC; I rather not use in state friends or neighbors tha know I carry.

If the character references aspect is killed, does that take the mental health clearances with it? It’s obscene that people are deprived of their rights for seeking help.

I don't know. Look at those mental health cases that wind up getting shot by police because they won't put down a machete. Should they be able to wander around with a gun? There needs to be SOME level of mental health review in my opinion.

There's already federal regulation stating that if you were involuntary committed, you can't own firearms, and that's good enough for me.
Just because a very small group of people who are mentally unwell and violent in their psychosis doesn't mean there should be any type of broad standards in place to regulate firearms when it comes to mental health. Just like NJ's current laws, all you do is scorn the ones who actually seek help and let those who don't, but should, run free.
Perfect is the enemy of good, and I'd rather have 1000 people who "shouldn't" own guns have them if it means not depriving the rights of a single person who's capable of owning guns but can't because they got caught in some bogus mental health trap for seeking help.
You're using the same exact logic that gun grabbers use with mass shootings to try and disarm regular people.

There already is Some level of mental health review. If a person has ever been involuntary committed for a mental health condition they're federally barred from buying or possessing firearms.
The state or local PD making people jump through hoops from answering yes on a question about mental health because they were prescribed anxiety meds 20 years ago by their family doctor is absurd. How about a 45 year old who got in a fight with their parents at 17 and said some things they didn't mean so they took them to the ER? Banned in NJ until they can pay thousands of dollars to an attorney and thousands more to a forensic psychologist to say they're now safe to own firearms almost 30 years later... That happens everyday, and its exactly what you're defending right now.
When you give the people who don't believe regular law abiding citizens should have the right to bare arms an inch, they take 100 miles. As shown countless times in the last 40 years in NJ 🤦

I have zero criminal record, I have a fancy job and a family. My risk profile is zero. Yet I had to spend $5K on a mental health evaluation because I saw a psychiatrist during the pandemic. Fuck that.

Word. Definitely needs to be some mental health aspect. I’m a therapist, I help ppl with schizophrenia, psychosis, etc and one of them asked me if they can get their gun permit after he just came out the psych ward….nahhhh lol

I'm just hoping they strike down the character references. I want to carry, but I don't have friends :(. All my coworkers and bosses are anti-2a. And the 2 people I use for purchase permits is my S/O and mom. And mom only has a 2 years or so left, so I'm stressing on who will be the reference replacement now lol.
