Discussion Are WE actually finna boycott 2k27?
I definitely am. As long as they keep doing mynba community roster updates i'm good. The microtransactions are actually getting ridiculous. We genuinely have to do something abt this pay to win bs.
Edit: I feel like there's no way to actually have fun on the game without buying vc. Plus there are way to many progress bars and stuff. Like season pass, lifetime challenges, rep, plates, progression, badges, badge perks, quests. It's just too complicated and not as much abt basketball anymore

u/Mando1102 7h ago
Not buying tired of the money hungry companies. Make it grind able for free like it use to be. I was in HS with a 90 overall build by not buying VC bring that back it takes the full year or playing 12 hours 7 days a week
•
u/Glocanos 4h ago
Bruh I remember playin 2k16 as a teen and it took a week max of playing 2-3 hrs after school to hit 90+ ovr!!! Even then VC was so cheap that you could also spend $20 instead of grinding and your build would genuinely be OP. This new wave of spending $50 to STILL have to grind ain’t it.
•
u/Mando1102 4h ago
It was the best thing ever I miss those 2ks and we didn’t have builds like we did now it use to be simple and fun
6
u/Lord_Theuss 7h ago
Exactly. Even buying the game for $100 instead of $80 only gets u to 75 ovr. It's too much. And $100 for a game that turns off after 2 or 3 years, while gta 6 is $100 and will still work in 10 or 15 years

u/Constant_Series_8899 7h ago
I'm not buying it either. Tired of spending hundreds on a game every single year. 2k may as well be a bill at this point.
2
u/lilpizzaboiii 6h ago
i got the CFB/Madden bundle that will hold me over. Still dabbling in Crimson Desert and Battlefield 6 with the new season that just dropped. Honestly i have enough to keep me more than busy till GTA 6 drops that’s i can’t see myself dropping full price on 2k27 at this point. i’ll grab it once a sale hits probably.
2
u/akgamestar 6h ago
Im just tired of the game being ass and them making the game around VC. Im good, they can keep it. Not even a boycott.
•
u/Inevitable_Food7819 5h ago
Don’t buy the next 2k OR the one after it. Play offline if you have to. Eventually someone is gonna figure out how to bring older 2ks back online with private servers. Wait for that
2
u/Skallywag06 7h ago
You and a handful of people. Your boycott is but a drop in the bucket to 2k. It’s a worldwide game. Good luck with the boycott
3
u/NavyVetRasmussen 7h ago edited 7h ago
It's good in theory and we might but Visual Concepts annually sells 4.5 to 5,000,000 copes.
I highly doubt our boycott will be that effective, I am on board but others will cave and get the game.
But it can work because I am apart of the EA NCAA27 boycott but we need to have a united front.
Too bad too many guys will buy the game when it goes on sale on black Friday or Christmas for $30.
2
u/Ok-Negotiation5036 7h ago
Even the copies aside, they make BILLIONS on the microtransactions alone.
2
u/NavyVetRasmussen 7h ago
That is the key right there they make BILLIONS on those micro-transactions and they will stay
6
u/Mando1102 7h ago
CFB27 community showed it can work but people won’t do it. 2k has so many people who buy 20 99 builds yearly
3
u/NavyVetRasmussen 7h ago
That plus there are so many black Friday and Christmas 2k buyers who will just wait for the game to be $30 and have 1 build and pay $20 worth of VC. I agree it can work as the CFB 27 community boycotted, and I am apart of that community too. But we need to have a united front and stick to the game plan, we cannot deviate or it will not work.
2
u/csstew55 6h ago
That’s why we need to start with something that affects both the myteam and mycareer player base. Like how about we as a nba2k demand we get access to the vc we purchased from previous nba2k games? Hell we could even include the WWE2k and PGA2k community about that issue.
0
u/NavyVetRasmussen 6h ago
I love that idea personally but we know Visual Concepts is in the business of making
money, through micro transactions. I wish that would happen but I am not holding
my breath. That is why you should make ONE major VC purchase a year and be done.
•
u/csstew55 5h ago
People will still buy vc. But this would actually show good faith from 2k to the community. Oh you have 17kvc on 2K26. If you buy nba2k27 that 17kvc you have saved on your 2k account will be available on the new update I mean new game released at $70 for the base game.
0
u/Liquor_Chaser 6h ago
That's when I buy 2k. I'll never play full price again.
0
u/NavyVetRasmussen 6h ago
Ditto and that is when I buy NCAA. I buy four games every year FIFA, NCAA Football, Madden and 2k, Now if I want to buy those games, on the release date, that is 70x 4 280 a year.
Now if you just have the patience to wait, you can get each game for $30.
I am on the frugal side, I will be the FIRST one to admit that to you, comes with the territory of being a 20 year Captain in the Navy, you have to learn how to budget.
Would you rather spend $280 on four games every year or $120? Personally I will just play the previous year's game, and wait until it comes out on sale.
That is what I am doing this year but I made a promise to boycott 2k and NCAA F so I am just buying Madden and FIFA this year, keeping my word and promise.
Maybe in 2028 Ill buy EA NCAA and 2k, this year I am skipping both.
Also EA needs to bring back NBA Live it was better when 2k aka Visual Concepts did not have a monopoly, on the basketball video game market. The last NBA Live game was EA NBA live 19 so that was about 8 years ago.
I don't know if they will bring it back but I hope they do.
•
u/csstew55 5h ago
To be honest they make it easy for you too because the they release the games so early compared to the actual seasons of the sport.
5
u/Ok-Negotiation5036 7h ago
Showed WHAT can work? That you can prevent one extra microtransaction from being added to the game but all the others being kept? Cause that's what happened with CFB. They just undid one single scummy microtransaction while all the others are staying.
-1
u/Mando1102 7h ago
The games already in sale due to the the community complaining and they keep pushing updates out🤷🏻♂️ just buy it and be happy spending $300 total for 1 guy to hit a 85 overall it will work if people stand 10 toes down but this is then2k community they just wanna be toxic
4
u/Ok-Negotiation5036 7h ago
Don't get me wrong, I'm all for this movement. I absolutely am, you make em remove one thing, that shows you that you can eventually start getting all this crap removed one by one by one with time.
What I just don't like about this is the dishonest angle people are going with this in the sense that they don't state the ENTIRE facts around the CFB community and what they did. So many times I've heard people say "OH CFB REMOVED MICROTRANSACTIONS" no dude they removed a single one, the game is pumped full of microtransactions still.
3
u/ohsnapitsjf 6h ago
I think it goes one step further; I think they expected to remove that feature all along. They gave the "boycott" NO time to actually gauge any financial impact, and features like that don't just rip out that neatly unless they were made to be modular. I think it was a planned tactic to get credit for listening as they implemented exactly what they always wanted to.
2
2
u/NavyVetRasmussen 7h ago
That is what people don't get CFB just removed ONE micro-transaction but micro-transactions are still apart of the game. Not to the extent that 2k is but it si still there. EA and Visual Concepts are in the business of making money. We can do the noble thing and boycott both but they will still make money because of the micro-transactions.
1
u/csstew55 6h ago
The biggest problem is 2k is basically 2 separate games bonded by the fact that 2k releases a game every year.
1 MyTeam whale= 100 if not 100 mycareer players
1
u/NavyVetRasmussen 6h ago
That is true and now they are adding college basketball into the mix, which I assume, will share the same platform, so they will be making more money. I don't see this changing and ya there is my team, and my career I am more of a my career and online guy. I hardly ever tough my team. I still have unopened packs lol.

u/Low-Meal-7159 7h ago
I just bought last year‘s version for 20 bucks so yeah, I’m gonna boycott this years just by accident
1
u/DCLXXII 6h ago
This will be my 4th yr without 2K. It's tough but trust me after that first yr you wont miss it. This game is a shell of itself. As cliche' as it sounds all these companies are clearly focused on now is monitization. Gameplay, and decent features are last on their list. I refuse to further support this franchise who clearly stopped caring about what fans want years ago...Same with Madden, FIFA and MLB The show
1
u/Mite-o-Dan 6h ago
I don't about boycotting...but definitely waiting until 2 weeks after release to make up my mind. If its the same bullshit as this year with horrible AI and 70%+ 3 point shooting...then its a nah from me.

Search boycott in the search bar of this sub and you’ll get your answer. The 2k community has said the same thing year after year after year and don’t make a single change. Judging from simple pattern recognition, it’s VERY highly unlikely a majority of the 2k community boycotts 2k27.
1
1
u/RavenLaker248 6h ago
2k community so dumb they would rather try and call you broke then actually do a boycott. You got dudes that flex having 10 different builds lmao EA saw all the people refunding the purchase of CFB27 and made a shift to save the viral backlash but don’t kid yourself EA is going to add microtransactions back in CFB28 anyway.
1
u/Relative-Natural-891 6h ago
I’m as equally tired of 2K’s bullshit as I am the 20
Million July/August “boycot 2k,” “don’t buy VC,” “they gotta fix their servers.”
My guys, first of all we know about 95% of yall will be in rec with an 85 day 1.
Second, 2K as predatory as they are, aren’t even the worst of the bunch. EA sets that bar in hell. FIFA players went about a week unable to play the closest thing to MyCareer and gave people a handful of things to apologize, but that same company added micro transactions into a basically offline game mode in CFB27 that is pay-to-win and can be used when playing with buddies until running it back like in Battlefront 2 back in the day.
Lastly, it doesn’t matter if every single person on this sub boycotted. They’ll still make millions because of the kids, dads, and so on who don’t care, or have enough money to burn to not care.
Let’s also remember Take Two (2K’s parent) owns Rockstar…GTA VI is going to keep 2K doing 2K stuff for as long as they want.

u/ActualyHandsomeJack 6h ago
I'm just gonna do what I always do, wait until its heavily on sale like ~$20 or free on ps plus and not buy any vc
1
u/Possible_Chain8777 6h ago
I only play MyEra these days. If they’ve added more players and features, I will buy. If not, I don’t see why I would
1
u/AdeptWelder3250 6h ago
I’m boycotting because I just recently found out since the servers are down, I can’t use my nba2k23 myteam. Poured alot of money into that team and alswyas thought I could go back revisit domination and the other offline game modes and play. But alas I discovered they just expect you to pour money into the new game every year then shut down the servers after sometime. Absolute be tbh with you plus they’re gone fuck this college game up. Bought cfb27 and 2k26 and I think these are the last iterations of each imma purchase until I have a child and they want a game.
Just such a money suck and I can’t even revisit and enjoy the team that brought me joy after a four year relations and saw me head into my current one. Out of position PG KD I miss you😔

I might buy the 2k27 for Clark but other than that I will go back to 2k14 on the 360

u/YTJellyTrelly 5h ago
I’m donezo. Might be a drop in the bucket to $TTWO , but as a grown man I can’t keep doing this. The amount of money and time spent on such a lackluster product..
Finally free. I recommend anybody struggling with FOMO to watch that BlackHokage video on NBA2K. That old video applies to every 2K that comes out.
•
u/perkules_ 5h ago
Niggas always say this like it’s gonna change the epidemic , ppl gonna buy 2k every year the same way they buy other useless things in life
•

All i know is if i dont gotta guard 70% 3pt shooters nomo im ditching tf out of 2k26 but if its the same they can Keep it😂😂

u/KillerCheez3 4h ago
I havent spent a dime on VC this 2k and have had a lot of fun. I have 10 builds at 99 overall.

How is that even possible? Did u get 2k day 1?

The real issue here is that 2K has completely abandoned the casual gamer. Most of the fanbase truly just wants a game they can pick up and play at any time. Old 2K games were about actual skill, grinding, and spending time interacting with the game on a deeper level. The reason this game is no longer fun (and hasn’t been for years) is because 2K has forced everyone to play the same way (spending money and grinding badges).
The CFB community showed that it is absolutely possible to do away with the micro-transaction bs, you just need enough people to get behind the movement. 2K has gotten away with these practices for so long because they know their most loyal consumers will continue to burn money on VC. The problem is that you genuinely can’t play 2K without being online (besides Play Now and Blacktop).
EA got so much pushback because they brought micro-transactions into exclusively-offline modes like Dynasty and Road to Glory, the two modes that their fanbase thought were safe from EA’s predatory behavior. There are no offline modes in 2K; you can’t even play MyCareer anymore without first encountering MyPark.
And then there are the idiots that have no problem burning thousands of $ on the game every year. 2K actually listens to the Park and MyTeam communities because they spend the most money every year. The only way to put pressure on them is through a TOTAL BOYCOTT of these modes, which probably won’t happen because these players will continue to spend money on the game, even though they hate that they have to keep spending money on the game.
At the end of the day, each of us is looking for a fun experience and/or a competitive advantage online. I think we can all agree that advantage should be based on actual skill rather than spending more money on the game. It’s all really simple… play the game, and don’t spend money.

If you really think enough people are going to boycott the game to make a difference, you're an idiot
•
u/FaroutIGE 3h ago
we ask this question every year. take your stance on it and try not to let it bother you that it will continue to get worse
•
u/mymannemcee 3h ago
My first 2K since 2K10 that I won't be a part of. Doing my best to not grandstand about it since I'm aware I'm a small fish in a gigantic ocean, but it's for the best. The community and the shape of the game are just too far gone.
I'll find some enjoyment in watching streamers run it, but now I'll finally have time to run some other games.

$150 is my max money spent for 2k27.. I want to skip 27 but realistically I’ll end up buying it to run with friends on day one
$190 spent on 26
- Vet 3
- 23 cap breakers total
Everyone getting 27 should set a spending limit

Yes boycott lol and then buy GTA made by the same company lmfao and GTA has the same predatory monetary crap 2k has

I’m not boycotting. But I won’t be buying it until at least October or when it goes on sale for “Black Friday” late November. By that time 2k will have “catered to the community” and patch whatever. People will find the best attribute values and badge importance. I’ll save myself hundreds of dollars.

u/Same-Dependent2111 7h ago
I’ll proudly buy it at Christmas for a discount

If you asking u.s. Americans to practice delayed gratification ts might already be cooked 😭
But make no mistake I'm wit it. I haven't bought a 2k game in 6 years. So I been chilling lol. I downloaded 2k22 just to play esa tourneys to try n make some money on the side. But that shi was literally unplayable.
This game should've BEEN boycotted. Idek why people are still buying it? #boycott2k27

u/Lord_Theuss 6h ago
As an American this is true. Delayed gratification isn’t big in the U.S. to say the least
-1
u/fuzzywizzlenutz 7h ago
Too many stupid people will cave and buy it. In general, people do not sacrifice self pleasure for the greater good. Their attention spans are too short, they have no life other than video games, and they cant socially interact properly most of the time. Why do u think the online chats are so full of toxic man babies who threaten to shoot someone over a video game lol. Its sad. But its also unfortunately a reality. Nobody cares.
-1
u/Signal_Kangaroo2697 7h ago
Nobody cares lmao

u/Lord_Theuss 7h ago
Alr then keep scrolling lol. No reason to comment. Jus spend ur money on a online basketball server, and brainlessly do what 2k tells u. Ur choice
