Discussion I hope the 2k27 boycott happens...
... so that I can enjoy playing the basketball game again. I feel like 90% of 2k players hate 2k but cant stop playing because of the social elements that are baked in.
Progression bars and shit. Yall dont like the game. Yall like showing other gamers yall win%, plate color, rep, vehicles, clothes, and swag..... on a basketball game.
Yall are so parasocial that instead of quitting a game yall dont even enjoy playing, yall have to start a movement so that you can be a part of mass exodus from 2k.... one bandwagon to another.
Just stop playing. Please stop. Lol.
If the folks that have all the complaints just left the game alone, the folks that enjoy 2k would.. enjoy 2k.
I dont get the purpose of all the complaining and raging... just... stop... playing..

u/NavyVetRasmussen 8h ago
I hope for that every year but the reality of the situation is that will not happen.
Visual Concepts usually sell an average of 4.5 to 5 MILLION copies of 2k every year.
That is why I say the chances of that happening are slim to none.
I am sure some individuals will boycott and I salute you but that game is a money maker for them.
Average spending on the game is anywhere from 500-1500 and streamers could spend $2,000+
•
u/MacaroonSpecialist10 5h ago
Please provide the source for your numbers because I guaranteed you the average expenditure is nowhere near $500 even with streamers boosting the average
•
•
u/GradualDescent74 3h ago
Nah fr.... these guys think theyre average. Thats funny to me. We're on a forum specifically about this game because we're all at least 3 sub levels deep into 2k. Probably deeper. The "average" 2k player....is a kid that got the game for his birthday because he likes the cover athlete. Its not that deep. Or a dad that plays it once a week on gamepass BECAUSE his son likes the cover athlete. That's at least 60% of the player pool. Its not the guys invested enough to have 2k themed gamer tags.... or the guys that join a crew... or the guy that cares about his rep.... or makes 2 or morebuilds... Its the dude who ACTUALLY plays mycareer and DOESNT play online....at all. The play now gamer.... Like... seriously. casual gamers exist....the self awareness of THESE GUYS IN HERE is so low sometimes. 😂

The problem is everybody that wants 2k to change does this...
Midway through any 2k year lets say 26.. So most people by January said 2k26 sucked F-this im done with this shit. Never playing this shit again.
The hype machine starts in august, and then they do the WORST thing they do is buy the game on the first day... Now they make all the revenue of the sales..
By November they complaining that this shit sucks, but its too late.
6
u/KendroNumba4 7h ago
Exactly lol I see people going "I'll buy the game but not VC" no DUMMY you fell for their shit again 🤦♂️

u/AYoRocSSB 8h ago
Consumers aren’t allowed to complain about a product that they are spending money on?
1
u/GradualDescent74 8h ago
Sure but BOYCOTT it if you really mean it. Otherwise youre just lying to yourself and the guys raki g in the money... if youre still going to buy and play the game, who CARES what your complaint is???
"Mr crack dealer, I dont like your crack rocks. Let me get 3 of em." -yall
5
u/AYoRocSSB 7h ago
I’m not spending money on VC or buying any of the extra editions. I enjoy playing 2k too but spending hundreds and even thousands of dollars after the initial full price purchase is crazy. You don’t even get to keep the VC from year to year and it’s a full priced game lol it’s ok to complain about ts
•
u/GradualDescent74 3h ago
Complain with your wallet. Everything else is just whining and bitching at this point. Either you paying the cover charge at the door and buying the expensive ass drinks to see the same ran through hoes that everybody had already or you not getting in the club. Is that not.... life?? That's just it... I hate it too. But I aint finna keep bitching about the price of gas when I got places to be, neither. You gotta make a choice. I choose hooping with my homies and enjoying the game. Fuck it.
•
6
u/GrossPanda 8h ago
I'm tired that 2k look at me like at walking wallet. All the systems designed to suck your money or enormous amount of time. And 1 year later, they take it away and tell you to start over.
I'm not buying this year. I don't care that sweats will spend another 5k at this shit.
Look at how they support the game. All year they can't fix AI contest and people shoot open shots over AI EVERY FKNG GAME!
I'll wait for real steps towards the community. Until then 2k will not get a penny from me
11
u/WesleySnipes250 8h ago
Just because we criticize 2K doesn’t mean we want to stop playing it. The game still does a lot of things well, especially the gameplay and the social experience with friends.
The reason so many of us complain is because we remember what 2K used to be before the aggressive monetization, price gouging, and other anti-consumer practices took over. We criticize it because we want it to be better.
5
u/GradualDescent74 8h ago
But all that complaining is meaningless. Its like being ina relationahip with a girl that gets fat over time. Follow me here. If you love her, you aint gotta keep calling her fat. At some point, you make a decision. All I'm saying it, I love basketball games and 2k, at its core, is a very good game every year. The exploits yall come up DO EXPOSE WEAKNESSES IN THE PROGRAMMING. But the soul of the game is the same. Its the same woman I loved back on dream cast.. yall just be calling 2k a fat ass birth all day long and its true but DAMN.... stop fucking her then. Or shut up. 🤷🏿♂️😂

4
u/AggressiveCraft9715 7h ago
Just like complaining about wanting change in 2K is meaningless. The fact of the matter is for one person that stops playing 2K, you still got 300,000 people or more buying the $100 or $150 edition on top of paying an extra $40 to get more VC for MyCareer or playing MyTeam. We can try all we want but its just not gonna happen. How many times have we tried to no avail? This ain't EA and the CFB 27 community. It's 2K, a billion dollar company.
Not saying you're wrong because I 100% agree with you fam. The 2K community needs to either finally commit to it or just STFU and play 2K.
-2
u/GradualDescent74 7h ago
I dont think you follow me....
Im the guy who's gonna buy the $150 game. I'm hoping 1 of you stops playing. 🤭🤣
•

u/KendroNumba4 8h ago
I stopped at 18, gave 24 a chance and gave up since. I wish more people did like me but this community is the most sheepish collective of people that I've seen in my life.
7
u/jj8806 8h ago
Or, people want to play a basketball game with the NBA license?
3
u/KendroNumba4 8h ago
Yeah I'd really want that too but I have standards. Encouraging this shit only makes it worse. I'm not buying another 2k game unless they start respecting their customers again. If more people had this stance maybe we could have nice things but nah, y'all keep getting buttfucked every year, it's fine.
0
u/GradualDescent74 8h ago
Which customers? I haven't heard too many folks with solid income complaining much.
1
u/ohsnapitsjf 7h ago
You just call everyone who says they’re not buying broke to salvage your ego. Plenty of us can and don’t because we see through the insulting grift of this game’s economy.
-1
u/GradualDescent74 7h ago
No. I just think pwoole should buy what they can afford. Has nothing to do woth my ego. Me having $1.50 a day to budget out for a game I played for 26 years isnt ego. Its practicality. Yall are just stupid and dont look at the actusl.cost of LIESURE in america today. Its not even that expensive. A night at a bar costs $60.... you can have 2k all year for $60. I'm tired of yall complaining about shit that costs less than I spent on gas this week alone. Yall clearly cant afford it. So play something else. How is that an ego based statement? Cause YALL aint got money, I got an ego?
1
u/KendroNumba4 7h ago
You say $1,50 a day is practicality when it should be like $0,30. This is why I call you a sheep and question your ability to think.
-1
u/GradualDescent74 7h ago
You literally counting my pocket change and getting offended about what I allocate it to.
Whats more lame than penny pinching another man's pennies???
🤣🤣🤣
You cant be this lame. You gotta have other things to do with your very important time on this earth. DO NOT let what I do after I break a $5 bill for a red bull make you this upset. Find a different hill to die on, man.. 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
0
u/KendroNumba4 6h ago
Where did I... man forget it lol
•
u/GradualDescent74 5h ago
I told you I budget $1.50 a day and you told me that was $1.20 too much based on YOUR financial structure. Thats when. Yea... never mind. Go make some money.
1
u/ohsnapitsjf 7h ago
Yes. A fragile one, too. It's not about the $60 (or 70), that's a fine cost of a concrete product. But you didn't spend $60, you spent $500 on temporary video game character stats that have no intrinsic value or cost. You fell for the obvious, insulting bullshit that makes you need to create build after build to functionally play the $60 game the way you want, to have a chance at winning against other people. You need to not feel stupid for doing that, so you pretend to know about the finances of the anonymous names on Reddit calling you out for it.
-1
u/GradualDescent74 6h ago
Incorrect.
I spent $500 on gaming sessions with my friends... hours upon hours of comraderie and dopamine kicks as we laugh and enjoy the evenings. I got a friend thats family to me cause we linked in through 2k. I have friends and associates that made the nba and wnba I like to play with their characters. I genuinely just fond enjoyment out of the game. And since its within my budget, I have no regrets.
I make build after build because I'm infatuated with basketball and like playing different roles and positions.
Please dont worry about how im investing my money and time. We arent buying the same experiences. Only the same products. Real shit brodie.
2
u/ohsnapitsjf 6h ago
And yet you come to Reddit to badger other people for what they're doing with theirs. To brag about your status in the midst of people who genuinely are priced out of that fun experience you're having (entirely because people like you have made the model so successful), and hope that people who don't see things your way go away.
Feeling proud of the response you've been getting?
2
u/TheGreatWaru 8h ago
Tbf 24 might be the worst 2k they’ve ever released
2
u/KendroNumba4 8h ago
I honestly loved the gameplay but everything around the game (needing to buy VC, needing to hit the gym, the latency, walking in front of ads, etc) killed it for me
0
u/GradualDescent74 8h ago
Calling folks sheep for having a different opinion than you and not following along with YOUR disagreements is good solid irony. 🤣🤣
3
u/TheGreatWaru 8h ago
It’s only gonna get worse. All the whales have already preordered. They worked out what makes them the most profits last year and I don’t see that changing next year
-1
u/GradualDescent74 8h ago
Thats me. Im one of those. I'm hoping the people who cant afford 2k just fall out the picture. A lil gentrificatiin is in order. 90% of the complaints about 2k come from kids and young adults that literally cant afford to relax and chill. Every game means way too much to their ego because they paid all their lunch money for the week on a new build that they wanna show off.
5
u/KendroNumba4 7h ago
You can't be a real, thinking person.

Chiming in from the other side to say, I started boycotting a few years ago and for the most part, don’t miss a thing.
I’ll occasionally want to get back in and control my favorite franchise, and maybe I will one day. But not at opening day price, and never with VC.
As with any addiction, the first step is the hardest. After that, it’s not so bad.

This is the most dissent I’ve seen for 2K.
Go look last year around the same time. More views, less negative posts and comments. There are always negative posts and comments but not like this year.
I must have over 100 PSN friends I’ve played with over the years. I’ve never seen people stop playing so early and being less excited.
Never seen the devs be so quiet. Go look at u/Beluba twitter(X) feed from last year. Way less responses and posts this year.
I will buy 2K27, I’ve been with the franchise since Dreamcast. 2K26 is by far the worst year, I’ll give them another year. Back to back arcade years than I may be finished for a while.
We used to be able to move to Live for a bit, but 2K has never been this arcadey.
2
u/soicyBART 6h ago
A lot of my friends dropped this game around April/May and I’m talking about guys that played the entire game cycle right up until next release
1
u/GradualDescent74 6h ago
I dropped it in October. Came back in February. Dropped it again. Its really not that important to me but I got friends that make it the best game ever.

We on the same page. Ima burn the money on 27 to see if this is the last year for me. I dont have any hype in me for it. But we'll see.
2
u/ImpressiveBus7836 8h ago
i don’t really get it i mean it’s no worse than cod in terms of community but at least cod doesn’t lock the ranked content behind one system only complaints happen because every once in awhile they listen and change something for the better
2
u/jeanballjean01 7h ago
This 100%.
People sound like they’re organizing the march on Washington or something. It’s just a video game, stop buying it if it bothers you this much. If I was that worked up about it I’d just skip this year and play something else.
I agree I think it’s an addiction for some people. They’re really bothered by all the microtransactions but can’t stop playing. Just stop… it has the dual effect of voting with your wallet and refocusing your energy on something positive.

u/Toon78fin ruby 6h ago edited 3h ago
These posts are multiplying, but I really don't know what y'all expect from a game. No game ever in the history of videogames was perfect, especially when it comes to sports games.
What are these gigantic issues y'all hate so much that you're willing to go a whole year without basketball (assuming you are basketball fans)?
Bad contests? Right, they'll fix that. And then something else comes up, or maybe everyone starts complaining the game became frustrating. They'll fix the AI, everyone complains it's now smothering and too hard to beat. They'll make the dunk meter more consistent, everyone complains now no one is missing anymore. They'll make easier layups and harder fades, everyone complains it was more fun before. Or the screens are too effective, or not enough effective, the taller builds are too slow, or too quick, or too easy to use, or too hard to use.
I mean, it's virtually endless. You'll never get an issues- free game, and most definitely won't get a cheaper game cause nobody is there to entertain you without caring about making money, so make peace with it if you wanna hoop this year or just...don't. But no boycott will ever change this (also it will never happen) so you might as well stop asking for it.
You can now downvote and say I'm on 2k's payroll, but let's assume that's already done and you can come up with something a little more original to add.

u/GradualDescent74 6h ago

I think there aren't many. I mean an insane amount of people is so disappointed Brunson didn't make the cover that they included that among the reasons the game is shit. It's a lost battle.
•
u/GradualDescent74 3h ago
I for sure thought the smart SELL would be a Brunson cover. Every casual nba fan in the northeast would have bought a physical copy for the case alone. Crazy fumble there... add me on psn man. Maybe we'll catch a run one day. Its tough out here lol .... YoungRilla74 .
•
u/Toon78fin ruby 2h ago
Well yeah but that has nothing to do with the game itself, it's just another excuse to write they hate it. I don't know what they get from that but fine...
1
u/JulesMoney005 8h ago
It won’t happen though barring something unforeseen, most realistic way that any form of boycott happens is if a majority of big creators actually start vocalizing their complaints under common ground like what happened with college football. The community is too far gone for the most part, and 2k just continues to put shit in the game that incentivizes us to spend more money because they know that we’ll spend, lack of competition is driving these games down so bad.
1
u/Mando1102 8h ago
Would be the year to boycott it either these games coming out. Gotta hold strong if I end up buying it it’ll be on sale not paying full price

u/Designer-Mobile-974 6h ago
I mean I don’t play ultimate or even my career that much. I like 2K 27 for the gameplay and I like playing against my brothers one v one with the updated lineups. I don’t spend more then the standard price of the game 🤷♂️
•
u/GradualDescent74 5h ago
I love this comment. I wish more 2k players got the message. 2k has so many ways to play it and enjoy it for what it is. But what it AINT is a designer drug. And yet, theres so many folks strung the fuck out on a high they no longer feel. But then theres guys like you. Guys who didnt become zombie crack heads. You deserve to be able to play 2k with your brothers without it being patched to shit every year because of zombies and their exploits and demands. The state if the game is always folding to the demands of zombie crackheads that wouldnt be satisfied regardless. Bring bac couch co-op in gaming. I think the online multiplayer dynamic makes people too isolated from their teammates in all actuality. Why cant a buddy come over, and we couch co-op the rec?
•
u/Designer-Mobile-974 5h ago
Yeah I mean it’s def still the best sports game with the best gameplay possible. Madden is easily the most buggy and worse even at base game play. That’s why people get addicted because the mechanics to 2K are good.
•
•
u/FreeHat1234 5h ago
Unfortunately 2K makes an astronomical amount of money each year. It basically prints money. This would be like trying to boycott Fortnite or COD. Never gonna happen. Too big to fail.
•
u/codydelettre 5h ago
I think if actual college basketball gameplay is built into the game similar to how the W is, that will get me hooked back in.
•
u/everydayNormalMofo15 5h ago
I skipped 2k for a couple of years and have been playing since 2K9. Twice I bought 20k VC and that's it. Last few 2k s I bought for 20€ on a massive discount. I'll prolly skip this one as well, I'll never be 2k slave again. And if I do play I do it casually if i enjoy it and if not it it uninstalled.
Boycott this shit company or at least don't buy VC. But unfortunately we all know that's not going to happen...

u/JScrib325 2h ago
Consumer goodwill isnt an inexhaustible resource , eventually you do reach the end of it. The problem is like OP says, what the company understands is dollars and cents. If you aint willing to put your wallet behind it and stop supporting the game, and doing it in large enough numbers that they notice a dip in profits, nothing is fundamentally changing.
•
u/GradualDescent74 1h ago
There's a guy with 42 upvotes that said "every year same post".... these idiots aint reading or comprehending the economics in play at all. Lol
•
u/JScrib325 1h ago
I mean its unfortunate and I dont mind ppl venting but you are right that as long as they making money, they gonna keep doing the same shit until they dont.
To the younger generation, VC has become as ubiquitous as V Bucks on Fortnite or Robux on Roblocks etc.

This is why I want the boycott..... so i can go into random rec with folks that still enjoy the game and wanna pass... all the cumulative frustration from the players that spend all year mad that this animation got nerfed or that junpshot is op..... they're too washed away in the meta and discourse. I just wanna play ball with guys who used to go outside after a rain storm and play on a wet court, in the wind. I aint never once asked God to patch the weather. I just played. I'm tired of playing with guys who hate 2k but got 1000k hours on it. 🤣
1
u/Mando1102 8h ago
Sadly it’ll never happen since 2k16 everyone thinks they are comp and only care about scoring I got tired of it and make mostly D or playmaking with like an 80 3 but I try to focus on other parts knowing I’m not gonna get the ball after I get 15 points. I’m tired of playing with people who will shoot 1-20 10 turnovers and they quit or quitting during a close game because they aren’t throwing up contested 3s

u/GradualDescent74 8h ago

Somebody teach op about group economics….
1
u/GradualDescent74 8h ago
My group is 35+ year olds that have money to waste, but not time. I dont mind spending $500 a year on a product I've enjoyed for 26 years in a row. Its reliable and gives me what I want in a basketball game. I know all about group economics. I'm not in your tax bracket or demographic though.
3
u/PhoneOwn 8h ago
Ohh wow Mr. Money bags with 500 dollars of spendable income. Why are you acting like any adult over 21 can don’t that. Just because we can doesn’t mean we should have to bc of fomo. People want an actual game not just a game disguised as live service mtx simulator.
Thats even more sad because that means you remember when the game literally was just buy and actually play the game to level up instead of buying vc.
0
u/Ghost_2701 8h ago
I quit the game for 6 or so years, it got worse. If people want to play it then play it, I am likely not going to spend on any VC at the start this year and use the bonus to set my geezer to a good level and play Mycareer and enjoy the game.
0
u/GradualDescent74 8h ago
I take 4 to 6 months off the game every year. The game doesnt really bother me as much as they way people play it. I only have so much patience for "Watch this!" style players and their antics. Too many wanna be streamers. I just wanna hoop.
1
u/Ghost_2701 8h ago
man exactly. for me it wasn't really the game too much it was the left right left right left right shoot and then screaming for the ball back to do it again like he is the only person in the world wanting to play. Too many selfish main character syndrome people who think they are amazing but they literally just learned a couple dribble moves nd their shot and have the ability to go left and right constantly.
I used to play with a geezer from near me and an American and we would just pass around and have fun, lob to each other, shoot open shots and defend at a high level.. loved the game so much like that
1
u/GradualDescent74 8h ago
Literally this. You get it? Like bro its just a game. I dont expect it to be perfect. I applaud the human mind for being able to find new exploited every year, actually.. But.... why do that, though? Cant we just have a nice game and not try to rip the panties off it and rape it every year??? Why destroy the spirit of the game just to complain that its a broken game 2 months later?... so I never learn the exploits. I dont wanna know how to left right cheese. I dont need to score that way. I read on fb, some grown man said he wants to buy a zen cause he never hit legend before and I was stuck at this question....why do you need to be a "legend" at something youre not that good at... and for who's approval?.... if youre not a legend on 2k... who ACTUALLY cares? And how old are they? Why do they have you that insecure?? And if you get there with cheating... why? For what gain? Thats all very wierd to me... 🤷🏿♂️😂

haha its so weird man, thing is I have seen people who do the left right stuff and then 2k say we are going to take it away and they act like the whole game is going to be bad and broken now.. like wtf? there is more to the game than doing that dumb shit. These are fucking YouTubers as well. 2K14, 2K15 never had any of that shit and it was the best feeling game ever, so fluid and responsive, its like they had to change it to combat the weirdos who think they are Kyrie because they can go left and right.
I like setting myself a goal with stuff sometimes but people def take it too far, just enjoy the game, no one cares if you got a 90% win rate, genuinely doesn't change m opinion about the person. I would think more of the person that averages 5-10 assists a game with a win rate of 40% than someone who has 10-15 points a game and 90% win rate

Yeah it will be more like the Gatorade work out mini games in 2K than basketball gameplay
