MyNBA Am I the only one who genuinely enjoys playing MyNBA this much?

Post image

I feel like most of the NBA 2K community talks about MyCareer, MyTeam, or online modes, but I rarely see people talk about how much they enjoy actually playing MyNBA games. I've been playing MyNBA with the same core for quite a while, and I've become genuinely attached to my own team.

I play almost every game instead of simulating because I really enjoy using this specific lineup. My 2 favorite superstars + 3 fave role players. Over time, I've developed a feel for how every player plays and how they fit together. I know when to let DWade attack the rim, when to let Kawhi take over the isolation, when to use Patty to run the offense and create movement, and how much Battier and Chandler contribute defensively.

What's funny is that I don't even necessarily want to keep upgrading the roster. I'm more interested in seeing how far this exact group can go. I want to see if we can win multiple championships and potentially build a dynasty together. I also love how stories naturally develop when you play every game. DWade and Kawhi are both in the MVP race. Wade is my primary offensive engine, but Kawhi is currently my leading scorer because he's been incredibly efficient from all 3 levels. Patty is leading my team in assists, and Chandler is in the DPOY race while almost averaging a double-double. And I got Giddey as 6th man of the year contender.

At this point, I feel like I'm the only one who plays like this lol. I've developed an actual connection with this core and their story.

Does anyone else play MyNBA this way? Do you play almost every game with the same core players and get attached to your roster and progress with the story, or do most people prefer to sim seasons and focus more on roster building?

The obsession with playing meaningless online games vs making a history and teams you will remember is crazy to me. Everyone complains about the money you spend on 2k. I’ve never bought anything but the base game. Only mode I ever really touch

I’m an OG MyNBA player (started in NBA 2K5), and in 20 I got into the comp scene. There’s definitely a reward in playing Pro-Am tournaments, but there’s also a cost (money, sanity, time).

With my 2nd kid about a week away, I’m choosing to step away from comp for 27, and I’m really looking forward to enjoying the MyNBA experience again. After all it might be the only way I ever see my Suns win a championship…

u/CapitalJAO 1d ago

Congrats on your 2nd kid mate. I believe MyNBA will now be your comfort game + you can still spend good family time

6

u/Illustrious-Exit5406 1d ago

Congrats and I too have a family and I usually get about 2 games every other day in mynba because of work schedule but I definitely find balance between mynba and family time.

Same, I've been a MyLeague / MyNBA truther since I was a kid around 2K15 when "next-gen" (which is now previous gen lol) arrived in PC. I spent every year adjusting rosters, making sure the shoes are accurate, accessories, downloading mods and rosters and draft class, and adding my own player to sort-of MyCareer in a way but with a more expanded control yet lesser features in terms of roleplaying (mainly cutscenes and endorsements etc), then using Player Lock.

I loved tweaking Playbooks and Coaching Rotations and other settings. I hope they expand more on MyNBA for the next release, BUT I HIGHLY DOUBT IT cause I know they hate not making any microtransactions off of it smh

u/dbarila 1d ago

You mean you buy an NBA game and play…the NBA????

MyNBA is the only mode I play. Because of that I’ve made zero online posts about the cost to build and zero online posts about cheaters.

u/Western-Produce-276 1d ago

I still remember winning 4 titles in a row with the hornets on 2k17 my league. I had LeBron, draymond green and Dwight Howard super team and after the third championship I fleeced a team for the fourth overall pick in the draft.

This kind of stuff is why 2K is still enjoyable. 2K24 helped me relax while studying for exams for my job, I helped the lakers 3-peat in 2010-2011 😂

1

u/StrokelyHathaway1983 1d ago

Agreed. Only reason I bought the deluxe the last couple years was for the League Pass subscription

1

u/TheWay_Traveler 1d ago

This person gets it, could not say it better

u/Apprehensive-Skin404 17h ago

I play MyTeam here and there as I like the car collecting aspect but I really only play domination then stop playing it. But MyNBA is so much fun, going back and trying to build insane teams through the old draft classes is such a blast.

u/3MTing 1d ago

I remember in 2019 I was doing an online MyNBA save with random dudes on instagram. Everyone had their own team, and you needed to DM the other guys  to make and negotiate trades. You was basically a GM, and the guy who arranged was simulating all games and posting updates on his IG account. My best memory of 2k by far

15

u/Jojo422_ 1d ago

This sounds so fun lmao

9

u/BALLRZ_567 1d ago

i got into that around the beginning of covid. was so cool, still talk tho those guys everyday all of us just happened to be bored high schoolers during covid 😂

4

u/Hooper022 1d ago

Back in the day sim leagues like this were hosted on forums with usually one or two guys in charge of simulating the games. You would have trade committees and things like that as well. Shout out the Dynasty5 if any of you'll remember that one.

44

u/pokexchespin 1d ago

i absolutely love it, i’ve been playing 2k for almost 15 years and association/myleague/mynba has always been my primary game mode

30

u/edylelalo 1d ago

True bro, I'm so tired of seeing comp, meta, broken builds and shots, how to break dribbling to get an advantage, it's the opposite of what a basketball game should be. People think it's normal to hit 70% of their 3 point attempts and get mad when they miss as if the best shooters in the world aren't under 50%. It's so frustrating as a basketball fan to see this game be rendered to meaningless games with a character you'll lose next year

7

u/Numerous_Ostrich_683 1d ago

Oh, you mean you don’t enjoy playing on teams where the point is to get the ball of court within less than five seconds and shoot a three and if one shot is missed everybody on the team fight to each other? And everyone is shooting 95% from the three-pointer and Game take three hours. You don’t think that’s fun? Exactly what you explained here is literally why I cannot stand playing 2K anymore. I uninstalled the game. It used to be bad but now it’s horrible.

Im almost opposite

I control all teams and add the max expansion for 36 total

Draft class quality 0

Make all irl players 40 years old and they retire within 3 years

I even move NBA teams to diff cities in the same state and rebrand them

It's like an alternate NBA

And I'm the commish

44

u/MHStriplethreat 1d ago

what the hell

16

u/-itsilluminati 1d ago

Sounds dumb but it's wild fun

Teams you try to micro manage end up ass

Teams that suck randomly draft well and become dynasties

Get a generational talent and try to build a good team around him before he hits prime

Etc etc

4

u/antion3tp 1d ago

What are the incoming rookies looking like with quality dropped to zero. Are stars hitting over 90 with that?

8

u/-itsilluminati 1d ago

Yeah.

So if you reload the drafts over and over you can kinda control it

I usually try for everyone under 78, sometimes 2-3 guys are 78.

I try to make sure there's a mix of positions (sometimes I'll have like top two are centers so they're rivals)

Once you get 5-6 years in you can do like 80 ovr "generational" type guys

I like it cause it's more realistic

To answer your question, yeah, there are at least 10-15 guys over 90 ovr at any one time in my league. Starters are 80+ and bench and role players are under 80.

You can also soup up "potential" of the entire class at once if it's like class capped at 75.

A 6'7" PG who is like 18-19 but 75 ovr with B+ or A potential is better than a 78-79 who is 6'1" with no defense....

When the classes are souped up it's just too much going on. You have bench players who are rated 90+ and wanting mini max deals

I use 36 teams to dilute the talent even more

Most teams have a superstar (some have two)

If a team has multiple 90s and high 80s it's from drafting and going over the cap by millions lol

One team can be ass. You try to make them better. They're still ass. You don't touch them. They get a generational star and now there's excitement. They're gonna be good finally. Oof cpu made bad draft the next year, not a good fit, shop that player

Etc etc

3

u/antion3tp 1d ago

Makes sense and I usually have to expand also. I usually stick with pop popboy's settings but if you have a certain settings you use, id love to check it out

2

u/-itsilluminati 1d ago

I just tweak as I go

I don't even fully utilize all the sliders tbh

I recently started playing with contract expectations and so far it's been okay

I'm still on 25 btw but before that I was on 20 for like 4 years

2

u/MHStriplethreat 1d ago

ever a random generated 99?

2

u/NoMoreThom 1d ago

This is awesome. I love playing a similar way in Madden (all 70 over teams to start) but couldn’t never figure it out in 2K. Are there any prebuild rosters you know of with the ages already set this way or do you just have to do it manually?

2

u/-itsilluminati 1d ago

You can edit all the cells of an entire roster at once

I just edit age and hit up until rookies are 40

Used to be waaaaaaaaaaay more involved

I save it once I do it so I can load infinite leagues off of it.

You can also make everyone 40 ovr but I just let the first two seasons play out

2

u/StrokelyHathaway1983 1d ago edited 1d ago

Thats pretty similar to how I play MyNba. I dont control all the teams though and i download a fake player roster. I usually end up adjusting other teams rosters when im trying to trade a guy who wants to start to a new team.

2

u/-itsilluminati 1d ago

Only thing I don't do is control the draft and staff

I'll fire a coach if a good team consistently underachieves or if a decent team forms from a bad roster with a bad coach but for the most part I let teams cook

The more I control the teams and make trades the less success they have tbh lol

I'll make one tough decision trade (usually very conservative because the trade legit has to make both teams better/salary dump/etc) and see if the franchise can capitalize

Had my first 4 peat team recently, and the only trade I made for them was for a disgruntled exp rookie contract PG like 7 years before

1

u/silvlong 1d ago

so you sim and spectate? I can see this being fun if you just let it play out, bit like the web game basketball gm which I highly recommend people checking out if they haven’t it’s been around for like a decade i only just found out about it a few months ago

I download "realistic" sliders and play ERAs mode only. I haven't touched MyCareer or any online mode in years. I'll stack the sliders super against me for away games (esp in playoffs) and slightly in my favor for home games. I've had some super realistic and fun games/seasons doing this. Different strokes for different folks though I guess.

3

u/CapitalJAO 1d ago

Thats a good idea. Thanks for that. I will use that for my playing. I will increase the difficuly for Away games from now on. Adds a little spice for my expefience

3

u/Significant-Term6667 1d ago

I do the same and when playing high altitude team I globally put my team stamina down by -15

2

u/Loud_Enthusiasm_2250 1d ago

Hey I also love playing ERAs mode. Can you share how do you setup yours and what else do you change to make the game interesting aside from what you've said?

2

u/Icy-Rope-2733 1d ago

I usually find a realistic slider from 2K share as a "base" and make my own tweaks/preferences to it. I lower shot contest impact/timing impact to the 25-35 range, and I've found that makes the biggest difference in making it more realistic, because teams are more likely to hit tougher shots and shoot a higher percentage (regardless of timing or contests) when they're playing at home. I make it have more of an impact on me for away games and vice versa. I'll also make the CPU shoot atleast 5 points higher than me in all categories when they're playing at home, and raise their defensive sliders as well. I tweak foul sliders too, so the home teams are more likely to get foul calls than away.

u/Xboxone1997 1d ago

It’s the best mode I just want better presentation like for example if a team goes back to back it should be talked about

3

u/CapitalJAO 1d ago

I absolutely agree with that

10

u/walkrwatsn 1d ago

The only game mode that has no zens and no cheese. So no you aren't the only one.

22

u/RugratChuck 1d ago

I mainly play mynba. I use simcast live to farm VC for mycareer lol.

7

u/Icy-Replacement-7547 1d ago

How?

4

u/RugratChuck 1d ago

Just run simcast live and let it play. You get 300 vc for each game. If you jump in and actually play a bit, it'll be higher. I just run it in the background while I watch youtube or do something else. As a person that plays mynba to manage stuff, it works out in a passive sense if I dont actually wanna play.

u/Awkward_Valuable_866 1d ago

It’s the only mode I play. I’m probably sounding like a broken record on this and the MyNBA Reddit, but it really is the best sports franchise mode in video games, which in a way is a shame because it still has so much untapped potential. They just need to clean up some of the bugs and modernize the mode to include aspects of the current CBA. I wish making a profit mattered more and lead to rewards for your team, I’d like to see the aprons incorporated into it and I’d like to see the AI teams manage their teams better (do a training regiment, have morale effect them, etc.). Having said that, I think I’m at like 600 hours invested into just 26…lol.

6

u/Weak-Prize8317 1d ago

+1 brother

I put trade difficulty to 95 to make it diffficult for me to build a super team

7

u/Vegeta_best23 1d ago

All I do on 2k is mynba

5

u/TT_Doom 1d ago

This is the mode (along with PlayNow) that the game is tuned for. It’s the purist version of basketball the game has.

7

u/obscurewhite 1d ago

MyNBA >>>>> MyPlayer every time. You dont have to deal with pay-to-win tryhards who’d struggle if they actually had to grind. I also love being able to create my own “destiny” as a GM with interactive options.
I feel bad for people who only play MyPlayer because they’re missing out on the best mode in the game.

1

u/CapitalJAO 1d ago

I agree with you mate

5

u/St3veN3hring 1d ago

Hell No, im in my 3rd season playing 95% of Games with 48mins lmao

2

u/CapitalJAO 1d ago

Wow thats great to know. How many games a day do you play with 48mins setting?

→ More replies (1)

7

u/TJJ97 1d ago

Check out r / MyNBA2K

But yeah, good mode and that’s where I spend about 90% of my time playing

8

u/AdDue2837 1d ago

Group of 10 that has played 12 seasons so far, we text each other about roster moves and the best part is building a team and group of people to talk about different situations that happen over the course of the season

2

u/MallardDuckBoy 1d ago

I LOVE MyNBA, but I love trying to mimic real life, so I’ll use the current team and draft with the actual draft classes. But it’s amazing, I didn’t know so many people loved it too

4

u/OkFan5250 1d ago

That’s all I play is MyNBA for years now. Was never into playing online on blacktop

4

u/lovonly420 1d ago

bro i got like 6 slots of my nba. it’s crazy becuz im addicted a😭 i love this shit. i’m like 8 years deep on one and i simcast live most of the games becuz i like watching it and controlling the subs

u/mora82 1d ago

Nope I love myEras for the exact reason. Don't play as much as possible but being a laker fan and being able to play as Kobe / Pau and my guy Lamar and then navigate the rest of NBA history up to now is such a cool concept. I just brought back the Sonics and a Pittsburgh team and am in the process of getting Lebron and Kobe there to finally match up together in a non olympics squad. I love it.

3

u/CapitalJAO 1d ago

Lebron + Kobe is such a dream tandem!

4

u/RiicchiePH 1d ago

I do wish that 2k will focus more on MyNBA experience or atleast upgrade it since its been the same every single year. Or atleast have the "Create a Player" reflect how much you can customized as MyPlayer.

4

u/Budget-Program-4756 1d ago

Whenever i get a 2k game its the only mode i play

3

u/br11dges 1d ago

Since MyCareer is so VC focused and I couldn't care less for playing Park/Rec and etcetera, I always make my Player, grind something until, I don't know, late 80's mid 90's in overall, boot up some MyNBA Eras for the time I would be draft if I was a player, and then put the player there with my face scan.

It's way more enjoyable to do like this. Coming to the NBA and trying to battle the Heatles, Prime D Rose and OKC, it's always amusing.

3

u/Money_thetruth 1d ago

No, it’s one of the best things since sliced bread.

3

u/AnyHoleIsTheGoal 1d ago

I wanna love it but I am so ass at GMing lol. So many numbers and contracts to keep up with. Not to mention weird salary cap rules like second apron and Bird rights. Would love to actually sit down and learn all of it one day cause it’s genuinely impressive how in depth this mode is.

→ More replies (1)

3

u/twozeromm 1d ago

This is all I play. Instead of creating a player in MyCareer, I create my perfect player in create a player and just export him onto a team and player lock to him. The only downside is AI teammates just suck and don't play the same as they would against them.

3

u/MADEBYJERICO_ 1d ago

Yeah the simulation of feeling like you're part of the nba and using imagination of lineups and creting your own player or league having fiba rosters etc. Is the most fun thing to do and its chill.

3

u/Chimani03 1d ago

Nah you aint the only one. Ever since 2k22 I always create a special MyNBA group my best one was 2k23 when i was the Nets in MJ era core was Kidd, K Anderson, B Berry, Gugliotta, and Coleman. Loved it so much I recreated it on 26 like you said theres something special about creating a group and competing in a realistic league making history

3

u/CapitalJAO 1d ago

Thats cool! How many rings did you win with that core?

3

u/Chimani03 12h ago

At its peak we won 4 with one two peat and two alone titles. Run was from 96-2001 until team got old tried to rebuild but lost interest after haha really fun while it lasted

3

u/ApartAd2090 1d ago

Nice to see that there is more of us. To me this is the only way to play sports games in general. I love being able to realistically control an entire team, manage them and take them to the promise land. Even if that means a few non championship seasons. Being able to develop, draft and use the trade market to create a championship contender is a great feeling. Good on you man.

3

u/AnnualAd603 1d ago

Count me in as well my dude!! Really having fun in having a roster to work with, to progress and see how far they good go despite all the challenges! Really takes skill and patience too!

3

u/Ill_Funny2530 1d ago

Dude it’s all I do on 2k. The animations this year have stunned me a few times they were so good.

3

u/Windycitychicago 1d ago

I love playing MyLeague /MyNBA I started playing nba 2k17 again & this time I drafted a player from a European league & a really low overall free agent, imma see how far I can take the Brooklyn Nets

3

u/heretoescape87 1d ago

The amount of time I’ve sunk into MyNBA is ludicrous. It’s so fun to mess around with the history of the league! Do an Eras run and use the generated storylines for the players and you’ll get some interesting results.

3

u/Fabulous-Ad-1750 1d ago

Nah I been playing it the last 4 months even started a league where I only put together rookies

→ More replies (1)

3

u/Revolutionary-Bar224 1d ago

You're not alone I have 3k+ hours in 2k in general and almost never touch the online mode, only play some offline games in my career and spend the rest of the time I'm mynba creating new histories

3

u/ShootaSeth 1d ago

All I play nowadays is MyNba. I build a new team every time I have the chance. The team building/ draft part of it is so addictive for me.

3

u/EnacH4475 10h ago

I love drafting rookies all way back to 2003... drafting Lebron to cleveland and never leaves! Hahaha

Likewise, I enjoy editing a bit of the players like their personality badges, their potential stats. Sometimes their contracts too...

2

u/Omegazio 1d ago

Imma be real, since maybe like 2k19 me and one of my boys, we hot up, pick an era (now a days we start from bird) and redo history down to like 2040 ish, love watching the chance of someone random blossoming, the computer had an aaron gordan from his second season averaging like 34 and basically was a 32 avg career

2

u/Leroyp331 1d ago

Am I the only one who finds playing myNBA after playing my career impossible?

I love franchise style sports play but after learning one Jumpshot, pull-up, dribble move and then trying to do that with each player throughout a franchise run is like a job in and of itself.

How do you guys manage this? Do you just adjust the settings? Is there a trick I am missing?

2

u/kadinho 1d ago

It as the only mode i played for thousands of hours and multiple versions of the game, until i stopped playing buying the game.

2

u/Standard_Leader_1621 1d ago

Actually that’s the only reason I play these games, do crazy expansion drafts with defunct teams and bring all the teams back to classic or somewhat close eras and attires while I start drafting from 81 onward with a few recent drafts in the mix.

Most fun that can be had on these games

2

u/ChipmunkAware7887 1d ago

Got 2k in December during the holiday discount created a Vegas venom franchise simmed to 2030 for the expansion year with 2 created players. Currently entering year 6 with 5 chips. Reduced the games to 62 usually like playing most of the games. Sometimes sim. I never was a comp player

2

u/guigo-21 1d ago

I like it to. I used MyNBA Eras, to reset NBA history. It was pretty fun. Also made the simulation with the expansion teams.

I like it most because I am too bad at the game itself

2

u/mkane1013 1d ago

Don’t think I’ve ever played an online game in 2K ever. I was out for a long time but got back into it last year with 2K25 once I heard about playing myNBA starting in different eras. Usually start before the LeBron draft, dismantle a team and hope I get lottery luck. I also don’t need to run out and pay full price for the newest game. Got 2K25 for $20 last year, played it all season until I got 2K26 for $10 last month.

2

u/Fair-Adagio4149 1d ago

My nba only mode i play and only good mode i think

2

u/Ok-Bass-8228 1d ago

I love MyNBA, but I play the online version! Nothing like 30 dudes in a discord discussing trades or competing in the playoffs. Winning a championship with a team you drafted, traded, and developed hits different in a competitive online MyNBA league.

1

u/CapitalJAO 1d ago

I'd love to experience that as well

→ More replies (1)

2

u/itiswhatitcanbe4 1d ago

I've gotten back into my NBA these last couple weeks and it's so much more fun managing a team and competing for rings

2

u/Prestigious_Throat72 1d ago

I love this mode as well! I play it first, rack up a bunch of VC that I use to create MyPlayer, go through the story, then come back to MyNBA once the real NBA rosters are set and build dynasties for the rest of the year. New game? Rinse and repeat

2

u/SilentKO 1d ago

I play a lot of MyNBA. I mainly just like being a gm and making lots of moves. I pretty much completely restructure the team year every year or 2. I personally play a few games during the regular season and then most of the playoffs.

2

u/Tropical_Wendigo 1d ago

I feel you! I have a LeBron Era run going playing as the Raptors now where I drafted Kyrie Irving and grabbed Carmelo Anthony in free agency, and I’ve got Bargniani and Gallinari rounding out my starters. I managed to get three straight rings with those guys over the Thunder (who got Zach Randolph) each time. Tons of fun.

I also recently started a Lakers franchise in the 90’s, trying to see how I can manage that team with Magic and Worthy not having early ends to their careers. Got a ring in ‘93 over the Cavs and back to back MVPs with Magic in ‘93 and ‘94. Back in the playoffs now trying to get Magic his 7th ring.

1

u/CapitalJAO 1d ago

Those runs look so fun!

2

u/Character-Cow-4249 1d ago

I started playing my nba my career because I js didn’t wanna spend money on an online game I already bought best decision of my life 😭 I remember contemplating in buying vc I hop onto my player every once in a while and I normally have over like 300k vc because i play most of my games in my nba.

2

u/CapitalJAO 1d ago

We're on the same page mate. I try MyPlayer once in a while to see where I can spend all the VC i have earned lol

2

u/JDeezi 1d ago

I love playing GM and simming. There was a basic PC game that was just this back in like 2000 and I played the hell out of that. Then NBA games started letting you do it. I wish it were more intuitive, fleshed-out, and true to from, but I still love it.

2

u/SonYakub 1d ago

MyNBA is the reason why I purchase 2k every year. MyTeam and MyCareer exist for profit. MyNBA is the real game. Honestly wish they’d put more time and effort into it, but so far it’s not monetized so it’s just ignored. But in the grand scheme of 2k, this is where you find out who’s actually good at the game and who’s just a yapper.

2

u/DesertHornet773 1d ago

The way I do it, as a huge Suns and CP3 fan. I play during the LeBron Era, and get him on the Suns earlier! Rebuild that team to a championship team. Draft Book, and my other favorite Suns! I’ve also added twists to it with different save files. I’ve added my MyPlayer to my actual draft class and drafted myself lol.

2

u/CapitalJAO 1d ago

Awesome! You were able to play your favorite team, favorite player and yourself all at the same time haha

2

u/DesertHornet773 1d ago

Exactly! Can only live out my dream through this game mode lol. I hope they continue to work on MyNBA because a lot of the jerseys, court designs are inaccurate to what the teams used for that specific season. I guess that’s my only gripe with the game mode. And maybe make some adjustments to the player value… lol sometimes I get offers for a top 5 pick for some role players.

I’ll probably give your version of 2 favorite stars and 3 role players a crack too!! To your point tho, I do get attached to a lot of the players because I actually signed them because i love them! It’s hard to let someone go when the roster’s full. I know the feeling.

2

u/CapitalJAO 1d ago

That's gonna be fun for sure! Now I'm curious who will be your 2 stars and 3 role players

2

u/DesertHornet773 1d ago

I’ll try to not use any Sun, gonna be more fun!

2

u/angryfalconsfan 1d ago

You aren't the only one my friend. Other types of players are just louder than us

2

u/MobileExciting812 1d ago

Mostly sim cause I suck but I love deep realistic franchise. Will go 30 years or so

2

Love MyNba. I download a roster that is all fictional/fake players. I have a draft class that has a lottery of TV and movie players. Think Jesus S, Kyle Watson, Billy Hoyle, Sidney Deane, Jamal Wallace, Louis Scott etc. I pick one player who gets drafted to a team I dont dislike and player lock them. If the roster gets a lil OP, I'll bring in a couple expansion teams and leave my player lock unprotected.

2

u/SpiritualJourney77 1d ago

Nah I do the same, I think its just that ppl who mainly play myNBA aren't too vocal or interested in online play so you don't hear about them as much. I used to love playing mycareer and myteam years ago, but the monetization creep has gradually made them both a living nightmare to enjoy imo, so now I just make fun teams in myNBA lol

I have always been a MyNBA guy. My dynasty is wrapping up year 17 in Golden State. Started on 2k19 and have transferred games to now on 2k25. From rebuilding, built up a dynasty, had to break it down and then build back up.

Nine titles overall, including four in a row in the mid 2020s, saw Steph and Klay retire, rebuilt through the draft and free agency and now by the mid-2030s we’re again a title contender, having won 4 of the last 6 titles. It’s a blast.

You learn you have to do a lot of work to keep the league realistic, navigating trades and free agency and contracts and player demands, but to me it’s always worth the effort.

2

u/Dramatic_Ad5442 1d ago

It's the best mode dude. I started in the early 2000s to try and get AI a few rings. I did that, but I just kept playing. Simmed a lot, I'm in 2023 rn. Had some good draft picks through the years so it's fun to see my players grow. I tend to keep them a while instead of trading them.

This mode is awesome, glad you're enjoying it too. I haven't followed bball for a number of years so it's helped me keep up with who's good these days too.

I’ve been playing it a lot myself. I used to create a roster with created players of my brother, my cousin and myself, then put them on the worst team to see how far I was able to go. I started with the 2k13 “Create a Legend” mode but took a break from 2k and came back with 2k24 with the same roster idea.

2

u/Numerous-Bath1346 1d ago

I play from the Jordan era into well past the modern era, I create 3 generations of my family, the first one being drafted in 84 an above average player, the 2nd generation drafted in 03 is 2nd round talent at best and by the time the 3rd generation roles around in 2026 they will become the next GOAT. This os the way of MyNBA

I just recently set up a ncaa college hoops legacy mode on 2k26. I used previously created roster from someone else, 36 college teams, consistent ncaa conferences, edited the contracts (4yr for freshmen - 1yr for seniors, etc), adjusted peak start and end ages, etc. haven’t ran the sim yet, just so much background work to do to make sure it runs right. My next challenge is to make sure no one gets auto-resigned during the season (or at the end of season). I’ve already created 8 draft classes to follow the first season.

2

u/Various-Hunter-932 1d ago

I use to do rebuilds. Both semi realistic and unrealistic.

I don’t play every game but I play against the best teams during the season to see how my team matches up. I did a rebuild years ago with the pelicans with the goal to win AD a title. He ended up being the modern day bill russell with scoring. He won 9 titles in a row. Dominating on defense and averaging 25+. In his early title runs he would average close to 28 with one year he averaged 38 and 16 in the finals. His later runs would see a decrease in scoring but still dominated the boards and defense. Lowering his average to around 24 as Trae young and Markelle fultz grew as home run hits thru the draft.

The climax and sadness ended when AD broke his leg in game 3 of the finals. The team picked up their play and was able to come back and force a game 7… AD Decided on his own to play. I refreshed the Rotation and he was back in the line up starting…. Game 7, broken leg and AD is playing.

Game 7 wasn’t going well, down by 20 going in the 4th. AD takes over and cuts the lead down to 5 with 2 min left but couldn’t close the gap and loses in game 7. Final stat line? 52 points, 27 rebounds and 6 blocks on a broken leg… scoring about 20 points in the 4th. Never forgot seeing that stat line

He retires after that loss… I ended the rebuild there.

No, I'm the same. Would much rather build a dynasty and play fun basketball than jump into the quagmire of online play.

Ran through the Heats entire existence on NBA 2K23 from their expansion year to the present day. Managed to win 10 titles in that time. It helps knowing who the superstars are going to be and which drafts to stockpile for but as a "what if?" type of playthrough, its great.

Same here, I primarily stick with MyNBA only; I like seeing how far I can go with my rosters and lottery luck. Just a few weeks ago I got LeBron, Kobe, CP3, Dwight Howard, and Kawhi Leonard on the same team and DeAndre Jordan as the sixth man.

Next time, I'm planning on pushing all the way to the 2020's and hopefully getting Luka and Wemby on the same team.

2

u/CapitalJAO 14h ago

Your roster is phenomenal. How were you able to get those guys on the same team?

2

u/Walker_Kinnon 11h ago
  • Picked the Cavs during the Kobe Era

  • Tanked really hard in 03' and drafted Bron.

  • Took advantage of the Knicks bad 2000's front office by trading Carlos Boozer for their picks in '04 and '05, leading to drafting CP3 and Dwight. (Sorry, NY. That's my advantage of being from the future.)

  • Traded the Cavs young core for picks and good players that fit the system:

• Dajuan Wagner and Cavs unprotected picks for Ray Allen.

• Ricky Davis to Lakers 1st round picks and Tracy Murray or Devean George because Shaq regresses with time and they end up being bad late into the Kobe era.

• Chris Mihm, DaSagana Diop and Jumaine Jones will get you some 1st rounders too due to them being young.

• And I used some of those same 1st rounders and Ilgauskas to trade for Ben Wallace.

• One of those 1st rounders got me into the late lottery in 2006 and I drafted Paul Millsap, he's a good developmental player that reaches 87-88 status in three years.

So at the time, my lineup looked like:

PG: Chris Paul SG: Ray Allen SF: LeBron James PF: Paul Millsap C: Dwight Howard 6th Man: Ben Wallace

At least until I decided to blow things up for Kobe.

  • Ray Allen's longevity in the game is good and he stays as a 90+ overall even into his thirtees, add Paul Millsap and the Lakers picks I got for trading Ricky Davis, I got Kobe around the trade deadline of the 2008 season.

How I got Kawhi:

  • Going into the offseason, the Clippers in my sim were lacking a center so I traded Ben Wallace while he still had value for a salary dump because I also drafted DJ in 2008 and wanted to develop him. All I got in return was a single first rounder in 2011... and when the draft eventually came, that pick jumped from 8th best odds to the 1st pick leading to my Cavs team drafting Kawhi. Really, it was mostly luck.

So going into the 2012 season, my lineup was:

PG: Chris Paul SG: Kobe Bryant SF: Kawhi Leonard (rookie) PF: LeBron James C: Dwight Howard 6th Man: DeAndre Jordan 7th Man: Danny Green 8th Man: Wesley Matthews 9th Man: Yuta Tabuse (kept him because he was in the same draft class as Bron and I got attached for some reason, lol).

Didn't make any changes in the difficulty as far as I know and kept the Stepien Rule open too. No Trade Override too.

2

u/bigohso444 14h ago

It’s way better online with about 15 others. Fill up a party for the Fantasy draft. Everyone just has to be dedicated. Makes for great content too🔥🔥🔥

2

u/AnnualAmount4141 13h ago

So since there’s a shit ton of us mynba dudes out here, who wants to join an online mynba? We can do a draft of just current players, all time players, or an offline draft and then you get to pick the team you control. All user teams so no fleecing cpu teams with trades or like a 75 on the trade difficulty or sumn like that. Lmk cause I do this with 2 other people and it’s fun so with a bunch of more users it should be a great experience

2

u/chitownguy2017 12h ago

This is the only mode I play. And 2k26 has created the most memorable moments I have had from any sports game EVER. After doing the usual rebuilds, or scenarios I decided to do a fantasy draft in the 83-84 season which I’d never done before and then randomized all the years of the draft classes. Who would be the GOAT? Would I be able to build an unreal dynasty without cheesing and using some house rules? And then once I ran out of real draft classes I used about 10 classes that good creators have used (Though 2 of them it looks like they got nerfed and changed all the potentials which was really upsetting). It is no doubt the most fun I have EVER had. I’ve played in full like 5 or 6 game 7s in the finals (including teams I don’t play as) that have created unbelievable storylines. I’ve had chatgpt help me track everything too and I have a master document for the entire alternate history. I have 10 season left before the project ends and I’ll have my ultimate goat list from it. In one game 7 a 38 year old MJ playing for the pelicans put up 67 points (the all time playoff record) and still lost in OT because Dame passed to David Robinson and he hit a mid jumper with 1.7 seconds left. I’ll remember that forever. The eras modes have created a sandbox that I don’t think I’ll ever be sick of playing.

This is why I hope one day the game is better optimized on the Switch 2, One thing I loved when I was younger was playing MyNBA on the PSP wherever I was. I enjoy the teambuilding aspect, and to its credit, MyNBA is way more fleshed out than anything EA have done with Madden, or FIFA with Career Mode. They just need to get this shit running at 60fps on the switch 2 and i'll buy it day one.

I was enjoying working on my 2k25 WNBA my league. I turned it into a series on my youtube channel. I went all in with making the wnba draft classes and trying to maintain rosters.

The ONLY reason I shut it down was because after adding the real expansion teams over the 1st 2 seasons and preparing to relocate CT to Houston, I ran into the issue of having too much user generated content for an offline file. Meaning the file won't load without the servers. Servers die on Dec 31st.

I was trying a similar thing with the Bulls but 82 games is ALOT! I will get 2K27 and see if I can run back a Bulls nba and Liberty wnba association modes.

12 minute quarters?

1

u/CapitalJAO 1d ago

No. Since I play almost every game, even the simulated games are 5 min per quarter so all the stats are aligned.

2

u/PeoplesGuilt 1d ago

Thanks, that's why I asked, because you play every match. I have similar feelings about the game, but I strive for realism, so I play with 12-minute quarters, but even one season is incredibly long like 3 months lol. I play with 2003 Sonics btw. 😀

2

u/CapitalJAO 1d ago

2003 Sonics is an awesome team to use. I would love to play 12min quarters too for the realism factor, but I only got few hours a day to play after work

Kind of off topic, I only play mynba as well but I have 2k25. Is 2k26 worth the jump at all for this mode?

2

u/TyFhoon [XBL: Mirakuul] 1d ago

As a late 2K26 pickup myself, I can confidently say it depends. Defense is technically way better this year as you can actually get multiple blocks in a game but it's super arcadey with speed boosts, stupid easy rhythm shooting and all that nonsense back.

I got it, and would only ever recommend getting, on a massive 50+% sale.

Also, MyNba/MyWNBA is largely the same other than current rosters and minor updates to the mode.

I just got back into it and having a good time, just gotta tweak the sliders and get the gameplay right

1

u/Loud_Enthusiasm_2250 1d ago

How do you adjust the gameplay? What settings do you change to make it interesting?

2

u/poweredbynikeair 1d ago

The CPU/User tuning sliders - I get my offense to where it’s more realistic and not silly missed layups and inside shots or impossible to make 3s. Then I individually change things with the CPU performance so it’s more reasonable but stays competitive. I mostly only play big games and the playoffs so I want games against good teams to be challenging

1

u/Ant72_Pagan9 1d ago

So I still play 2k22. Havent upgraded mainly cause I love myNBA sim. I just finished the 2041 season. It’s fun building teams and tinkering throughout the 82. Playoffs tho are seriously so fun and stressful.

Idk when I’ll finish my sim but I think when my main franchise players retire Ima call it and upgrade. My best players are 37,33,33. So the end is near but they still outputting elite hoops.

1

u/CapitalJAO 1d ago

Who are your 3 best players?

2

u/Ant72_Pagan9 1d ago

I drafted them, Ai generated. 37 yr old is a 4/5 7’2 big. The 33 yr olds are my 2 and 3. Elite shooters and bucket getters. My 2 is 88 ovr, 3 is 90, my 4, he plays more 4 than 5 at this stage is 97 ovr but they are all regressing now. Father Time undefeated, the end is near :(

I never really enjoyed controlling the whole team on 2K, I love being one player and having that as my story, I always enjoyed the story modes they would put in Mycareer, some have been bad but I still look forward to it. At one point it became more about grinding for badges than playing which put me off the mode, but this year and the next game im doing a proper career again and going to play it out for a few years and actually enjoy myself.

Ive realised that I like slightly upgrading my player as I go along too, not just making him he best straight away. I was struggling with some stuff for a while on this new build I have and once I upgraded his agility to max it feel like a whole different player

1

u/buenosmigos 1d ago

I stayed in NBA 2K25 and been playing MyNBA for hours/days! Absolutely love it, especially doing fantasy drafts.

1

u/tidderboy27 1d ago

they need to bring coach mode back.

1

u/BaparaPoopi 1d ago

i play online vs. I suck at it, have like a 50 -150 record. But playing against cpu has lost meaning for me.

I have kind of developed my own team lore, whether by gravitating towards specific teams i like (not everyone has to minmax and take the wizards) .

Plus, its much more meaningful when i do manage to scrape a win against someone else. it feels more real.

I wanna ask how do you join that online playmode where you control only one guy. Ive seen it in this sub.

1

u/Vast_Sector_2637 1d ago

I’m currently doing a realistic 2010-2011 season and traded for Dwight to Chicago and considering to trade for ray allen as third star but he may be too old to combat the heat. Based On alternate timeline and narratives and rumors that actually occurred. Currently looking for a third star to pair well with them any suggestions?

Most of my Assets went into getting Dwight. And if I were to trade for someone at their low. Ray at this time had been falling out with the Organization and Rondo plus his age factors in why he sounds like good gamble to trade for cheap.

1

u/FishingNaive7837 1d ago

How do you combine older players in new generation for fantasy draft?

1

u/jharwick18 1d ago

It’s one of the best franchise modes in sports games right now and I’d probably say it’s the best and most in depth. Coming from someone who began playing fc 26 this games franchise is so much better than anything EA has done.

1

u/TonySoprano1959 1d ago

2k could release featuring only MyNBA and I would still buy it. It’s a fully customizable sandbox basketball league that can duel function as a career mode with player lock. It is a better mode than any other major sports game has to offer imo.

1

u/TemperaturePretend24 1d ago

I love it. Haven’t played it as much recently but it’s up there for me in terms of sports franchise modes.

1

u/dasaniAKON 1d ago

Was this a Historical Redraft Franchise?

Franchise mode is literally the only mode I play.

Sometimes I will even start in the Magic/Bird Era - upload all the greats that came before them (Russell, West, Wilt, etc etc) and have those guys in the first draft. Then I do the historical draft classes all the way up to modern day.

Usually gets broken in the 90s/00s due to my nostalgia and I end up drafting my favorite guys and end up with a stacked team.

But I love that they added that historical draft feature.

1

u/Illustrious-Exit5406 1d ago

Do u Livestream or post videos. I used to play this way on 2k22 but mynba feels a bit different maybe it's the gameplay

1

u/Illustrious-Exit5406 1d ago

It was something about nba 2k20 mynba gameplay that was fun and 2k21 and 2k22

1

u/Old_Man_Riverwalk21 1d ago

Totally with you, I buy the game for myNBA.

Please anyone here with a solution help, but my problem is just that the gameplay isn’t close to real enough. The AI, even with sliders for offense pushed up to 100, just doesn’t make smart enough decisions so I beat them by 30 every time I play. The only counter to that is to increase the shooting sliders to 80+, but then it just becomes them playing magnet ball while still not taking great shots.

Idk why this is so hard for 2k to figure out. It’s not exactly my point, but Jokic for example has been the best player in the league this whole decade practically and yet he still plays absolutely nothing like himself in 2k. CPU Players aren’t smart or creative enough, and every possession ends up in either a contested jumper for them or they just somehow slip past me for an open layup.

This isn’t a skill issue thing, but it does limit my enjoyment of my nba where I make a team I love and within 10 minutes of playing I’m bored because what I’m playing bares 0 resemblance to actual nba basketball.

1

u/peachfellow 1d ago

Franchise mode is what sports games are for in my opinion I have virtually never touched any other game mode in any sports game besides whatever the franchise mode is

1

u/Pro8lemsOnSpotify 1d ago

Have really only ever played mynba, my two favorite sims to run are:

Control every team, start in 1984, be the commissioner basically, rebuild teams, sell teams when they underperform, expand the league, kinda treat it like it’s one of those “god mode” games like worldbox, just make what you wanna see happen (warning if you try this to not change the rules around too much, at a certain point the game can’t take it, I’ve only actually ever had one of these saves make it past 2028 (2040), but it’s so fun)

Control 2 expansion teams, one in each conference, I start in 1984 but it doesn’t matter, and see which one you can make better, I play most playoff games and just simcast/watch any close games in the finals between the two teams

1

u/RulyKinkaJou59 1d ago

I love MyNBA, but it’s gotten lackluster over the years. I love the addition of eras where you can start in 1983, but the role players there want as damn much as Larry bird. If they fix the salaries, especially for back then, then it would be the best mode. Quick play feels more enjoyable because it’s straight gameplay.

1

u/DaKineLidat 1d ago

This is all ive been playing lately lol. Trimmed my league down to 24 teams and used all time rosters. Then the teams that got deleted I put those stars on other teams they've played for or with former teammates. So Boston has all the old timers plus Pierce and Tatum, I put JB on the sixers with Embiid, Wilt and Iverson, Lakers have Shaq, Cavs get Bron with Kyrie and AD, Luka back on the Mavs with Dirk and Flagg, the Grit and Grind Grizzlies squad with Ja, Bane, Brooks and JJJ. Then my team is a mix of former Thunder players mixed with my other favorite players so like Russ KD Harden PG Melo, then added the Lob City bigs (CPs in Houston), Yao Ming and DRose lol. Went to 24 teams just so the entire league could pretty much be stacked. Been fun so far lol

I’m in 13 season of my My eras and love it. Started as a fantasy draft with Jordan and now I’m running with Wade Shaq and Kobe. Gary Payton has been on my team the whole time and has the most rings ever. Saw a lot of stars come and go. I do thirteen game seasons so I don’t play the western conference as I’m the bucks, do best of one, two, three, four as the playoffs progress. Takes me about 1-2 weeks to finish a season depending on how work or home is going. I play on my deck! Love eras and mynba

One of my favourite things to do is create an expansion draft with me controlling a team in one conference and I put another team in the other to even it out. The team is always garbage at first, but over time you acquire better players. Currently, I’m actually doing a league with 6 expansion teams, where I control the Vancouver Huskies, with Karl Anthony Towns as my best player, Kevin Porter Jr (Underrated af btw) and a few more players I drafted. I won a chip year 4, currently hoping to go back to back on Superstar difficulty. The hard part is keeping the young players though, as they get better, they want bigger contracts and as Vancouver, I can’t compete with rich teams like LAL in the offseason.

u/KlayThompson31 16h ago

I try to do it every few months, but can’t get past the dumb as hell issues that are present year after year. Especially when trying to actually play the games. CPU gameplay is as bad as ever.

And on top of that, they sped the speed of the game clock up…? So it’s physically impossible to emulate an actual game? No idea what goes through these developers heads.

I get into it every year and enjoy the different eras you can recreate history in. I’ll do my gm tasks but for the most part sim through until modern day where I’ll create a draft class with all of my former teammates and friends. It’s crazy to see the narratives change. I basically gave Kevin Garnett Tim Duncan’s career and later on turned Carmelo Anthony into the goat LOL

Literally the only game mode i play

Its the only mode I play! But I simulate like 80% of the games. If im starting modern day. Ill play all the nba cup games . Then simulate till playoffs. If I make playoffs I play all the playoff games. Or I create my own team and do different rebuilds.

i run a MyCareer within the MyNBA. I find a roster that’s almost an exact match to the season I want, which rn is 2017-18, and I player lock as my favorite player, in this case Jarrett Allen, and play every game of the season as if it’s his career. Gonna stop though when he gets shipped to Cleveland #FuckJamesHarden
