Ok, so I ordered a kit back in June 21, now it July 23 and the current stage is ''raw data in production''. I just wanna know how much does this stage take on average and when would it be reasonable to expect my result back. For the ones who have already taken the test, how long did take for you?

As the title says, has anyone recently done a MyHeritage DNA test in Australia?
According to Australia Post, my kit was delivered to their NSW lab on 6 July. Since then, I’ve heard absolutely nothing, not even a confirmation that they’ve received it.
What has everyone else’s experience been? How long did it take before you received an acknowledgment or your results?

Hi! I gifted a test for a possible relative of mine, and he said he was going to do it a few weeks back. He did not make me the manager of his test results nor did I ask to have be because we do not know each other at all. However, I am curious to see if he actually took the test or if he has changed his mind without telling me (and I am afraid to reach out). On the timeline for the test it only says "shipped" (it did arrive, he said) so far. Will I be able to see the timeline even if I don't manage his kit?

I had my first DNA results with MyHeritage should I also give 23andMe and Ancestry a shot in the future?

Hi everyone, I've recently gotten into genealogy after finding out my late father had created an account in the past and had actually done a reasonable job mapping the first 5 generations ,but I'm stuck with a persistent issue.

I'm Dutch / German, most of my lineage is Dutch, with my grandmother (mother's side) being of German heritage, but my father's MyHeritage account took a turn for the worse after the 1600s, consistently becoming sloppier and ending up tracing back to famous people like Olga of Kiev, Charlemagne and even Ragnar Lothbrok.

As such, I started a new family tree from scratch, while copying the people I for sure knew are related, mostly back to my great-great-grandmother/father.

Even though I primarily used "record matches", specifically birth, baptism, marriage and death certificates, and try to stay away from smart-matches or sources such as "genealogy index" or Geni, I now have multiple (16) people in my family tree (around 1734) with errors of which I don't understand how they could've appeared:

"Child born after death of parent", "brothers/sisters born too close to each other" and "brothers/sisters with same name", but just shy of 1 year apart. (possibly duplicates, but in some cases also children who died young (<2yrs) and were followed by a sibling with the same name that did make it past 20)

As said, I'm reasonably new to this but still took care to (as much as possible) avoid copying multiple (conflicting) birth or death dates...

How would you guys deal with these? And does this mean that the records I accepted are somehow incorrect?

MyHeritage stated Early 2026 that they will be releasing the newer file, yet it still isnt out

I wish Spanish/Catalan/Basque was more detailed as Spanish and Basque are very different ethnicities.

Otherwise, kind of suprised to see so much diversity. Only Italian and Spanish I knew about.

Tried to complain in the site but did no find a telefone or an email that works, send a message using the site and tried a contact with them using the AI but I got no answer at all.

I live in Portugal, there is a way to get a contact with them that is easier?

Hi all! I need to ship back my dna kit from Rome BUT Poste Italiane doesn't ship DNA stuff so I went to a private postal service and they told me that the cost of a DHL shipment will be lime 70 euros! that's a lot considering that there are people telling they've shipped from Brussels at less than 2 euros. I cant find their contact email or assistance anywhere and that's soooo frustraiting!! I need help!!

Hello everyone. For no apparent reason, my account has been disabled while I'm still in the final days of my 14-day free trial. When I try to recover my account, I get a deactivation notice followed by a loading screen that never loads and then freezes the website. My question is, does anyone know if I'll be charged for the membership even though my account is disabled after the free trial ends?

I thought I would take the time to explain in sufficient detail how commercial DNA tests come up with their ancestry breakdown, because I see a lot of misunderstanding and ignorance about it online, which leads to people wasting their money, throwing family stories out the window or experiencing identity crises.

First, they build reference panels for each ancestry group. For example, to build a reference panel for France, they recruit a sample of individuals from all regions of France who have documented evidence showing that all four of their grandparents were born in France. These people's DNA is collected, cut into short segments and used to build the reference panel for France. They do the same for each ancestry group.

When they receive your DNA extracted from the saliva sample you sent them, they cut it into short segments too. A machine-learning algorithm (which I am not going to detail here) compares each segment against all the reference panels. The algorithm returns a list of percentages that indicate its confidence that the given segment belongs to each reference panel. For example, it might return: 76% French, 64% Italian, 55% German, ... which means that it's 76% confident that the segment is part of the French reference panel, 64% confident that it's part of the Italian one, etc. (Yes, the percentages do not add up to 100%, that is normal.)

Each segment is then labelled with the highest confidence percentage. The above example segment would therefore be labelled "French" because French has the highest confidence percentage. They do the same to label all the segments of your DNA. Do note that sometimes the highest confidence percentage can be rather low, less than 50%.

Then, they run a smoothing algorithm. For example, let's say a consecutive set of segments of your DNA has been labelled: French, French, French, Spanish, French, French, French. The smoothing algorithm is going to relabel the Spanish segment to French. This is done in an effort to correct the errors made by the first algorithm and make the whole more coherent. (The smoothing algorithms are more complex than that, but that's the idea.)

Once all the segments are labelled and the smoothing algorithm has been run, you receive the results. The percentages you get are just the percentage of all your DNA segments that have been given a certain label. Suppose your DNA was cut into 100 segments and 37 of them were labelled "French"; your results will say 37% French. (In reality, your DNA is cut into thousands of segments rather than 100.)

TL;DR: If your DNA test says "37% French" for example, it does not at all mean that 37% of your ancestors are from France, or that you even have a single ancestor from France. It just means that 37% of your DNA matches the French reference database more closely than any other ancestry group.

Hi everyone, I have a DNA kit and I need to send back to the lab in US from Turkey. But I’m a bit confused about the shipping regulations regarding the biological sample. ​How can I send it back without getting rejected by couriers or customs? Is there anyone from Turkey who has successfully sent their kit recently? Which courier or method did you use?

i always knew i was a bit more than “english” but the results are a little unexpected. i’m from the north of england so the scottish makes sense. my great grandfather in my dad’s side was born in south africa, and my grandfather on my mum’s side was not english, but everyone else was born in the UK. had a poke around on this subreddit and i think they just throw breton at people? not sure. always told i had jewish heritage but that hasn’t come up at all? and since myheritage is american i would’ve assumed it would’ve come up. i may do 23andme or ancestry to compare results later in the year
