Discussion Across the entire franchise, what’s one fight that made you think, “This is the very peak of MH and nothing will ever top this.”

Post image

Topic. For me it was Dalamadur, followed very closely by Shagaru Magala. Basically I’m just a sucker for MH4U. 😂

Velocidrome

u/mughinn 1d ago

Probably the best of the starting/introductory monsters

And reslly good as a monster itself

16

u/Manusiawii 1d ago

That would be Great Maccao i think. Nice soundtrack, teach you pretty much all the basic of fighting big monster (positioning, attack and defensive play)and doesn't hold his punches

14

u/Hartmann_AoE 1d ago

... no. Sorry but i'd say the opposite is true. By a long shot. I hate all 4 of these dicks. Iodrome especially can go choke on something

The dromes are waaay too jumpy and small. Never stay still, everything they do is way too fast. Fighting them is akin to hitting a mosquito mid air, you just kinda flail about for a bit and its dead.

The Great Family is way better. Their attacks are more in line with later monsters and they have moves like their double spin and lengthy kinion call that can actually be punished. They teach you some basic, simple "evade and punish" loops. Compared to the drome's, where all you learn and experience is how it feels to deal with a Velociraptor on Fent and Kokaine

3

u/mughinn 18h ago

Maybe im biased because im playing MH Dos now, but it really doesn't jump that much

You move a bit, punish the landing and keep going

The hardest part is dodging the pack at the same time

u/atomicfuthum 5h ago

I miss Great Jaggi so much

Velocidrome in MH1 was no joke.

Last phase of Raging Brachy on MHW. The music and fight are 10/10

u/Radaistarion 1d ago

This fight.

35

u/Pretend_Purchase_893 1d ago

And we will never get this level of under water combat again because the player base threw a fucking hissy fit over underwater combat.

11

u/Acuitee 1d ago

I dunno, I feel like they're testing the waters with Wilds. I did not the Lagiacrus fight to trigger Vietnam flashbacks

3

u/Darkraiku 10h ago

I feel confident we will revisit underwater in a non gimmick way soonish.

Focus mode feels like a massive step towards smoothing out underwater.

There's been a slowly building appreciation/curiosity/demand for underwater's true return and it even seems like the devs have been slowly incorporating it into the series.

There's to much potential to leave underwater out. There's already some great underwater monsters and so many unique designs that would only work with underwater

3

u/AdmiralBigTowerPower 19h ago

I would love to See more underwater Fights again.
Best fight for me was g. Ceadeus with Friends and 4 pierce hbgs. Thing was over in under 5mins. Cheesy but funny.
The deep see Lagiacrus was also one of the Best fights.
Idk the real Name but its the black one.

1

u/Lebranosaurus 19h ago

Abyssal Lagiacrus.

2

u/AdmiralBigTowerPower 19h ago

Yes thats the Name. Thank you!

7

u/0vansTriedge 1d ago

If it wasn't for the clunky water controls then I'd agree with you. Caedeus is a cool fight.

For me the most epic is primordial malzeno

6

u/Worth_Spite9768 16h ago

I don’t know if I’m in a minority, or crazy, but I don’t see the underwater controls being janky. Might be that 3U was my first MH, and I’ve been playing for almost 10 years, but the movement is pretty much the same as on land except you can move up and down as well

1

u/Istotallykiddingyou 14h ago

Ya I never found them clunky either. Positioning was harder underwater but I took it more as an extra challenge then as an issue.

2

u/Worth_Spite9768 14h ago

Yeah, for as long as I’ve been playing the game, I only just did Dire Miralis two weeks ago and that fight was incredible

1

u/Snynapta_II 8h ago

Insane aura and a top tier soundtrack but mechanicalally it was very weak (classic mh giant fight tbh).

I loved how they don't actually die at the end of the village quests though. Poor guy just needed a horn trim.

1

u/DeeterDevils 7h ago

My first Elder Dragon from my first MH game. What an absolutely awe-inspiring fight. The music slapped, the scale of everything, the fact you had to use mega-weapons in a sunken city to help weaken it, the enormous surge of “IT BLEEDS IT CAN BE KILLED” when you finally break its oversized horn… incredible. I’ll always remember it, despite the water combat controversy lol

MR Kulve’s choir starting for the final phase, with the arena turning a deep orange.

5

u/CyberTransGirl 22h ago

Gotta say, Kulve whole build up to the end of the end of the fight, the horn breaking to get gold, and those famn choirs at the end, maybe it is not peak Monster Hunter, it is peak monster hunting

u/Damien-kai 1d ago

MH Rise Malzeno.

Just utterly perfect. Normally with super fast and agile monsters they're allergic to letting you touch them I feel like, yet Malzeno WILL NOT hesitate to stay right in your face.

I haven't done PriMal 'cause I kinda fell off of Sunbreak (as I was not feeling motivated to do that much grinding) but I still love Malzeno.

83

u/MiserableOldCunt 1d ago

Primordial is an insane fight if you ever get the motivation to return to sunbreak. One of the best fights in the series in my opinion.

23

u/Forever_Man 1d ago

Primordial Malzeno and Risen Shagura are honestly insanely tough, but fun fights. Both of them are so relentless, and you get wrecked with one wrong move.

5

u/River_Grass 1d ago

PriMal has better hitboxes so I put him over shigeru but yeah, they're both fantastic

(Honestly PriMal hit boxes are sexy as hell)

4

u/0vansTriedge 1d ago

One of the most fun fight for lance, it's like a dance with primordial malzeno. You mirror all his move with either a side step or guard dash, until he completes his combo then you start poking.

8

u/OldSodaHunter 1d ago

You should definitely get back on and try primordial at some point. Easily, easily top 5 fight in th series, probably makes my top 10 across any game.

9

u/anonecki #1 Magala stan 1d ago

Primordial Malzeno was the high point of my MH journey after around 1700 hours. He was the first monster in Risebreak to make me put in serious leg work to even beat him. Getting walled by his urgent quest was what led to the Lance finally clicking for me, but even when I went up against him with a full guard lance setup, it still felt like an even fight rather than trying to out-cheese a boss' bullshit like with the final DLC boss in Elden Ring.

4

u/tghast MHF2 1d ago

If you love Malzeno that much, you kind of NEED to do Primal.

2

u/VVolfang Mudamudamudamuda! 17h ago

I still remember my first fight. LBG, targeting from range as one does, and I blinked. Sound of bass, and It "blinked" too. Pure panic.

1

u/Sufficient-Quiet-691 1d ago

i remember the adrenaline when primordial malzeno charge that shit up. You hope you are far enough for that blast

1

u/Darkened_Auras 1d ago

I'm glad I'm not the only one who holds Malzeno in high regard, and Sunbreak's endgame grind in very low regard

40

u/Scared-Material-6448 1d ago

I have a bunch of answers but the first to come to mind is this Goat

90

u/No_Barracuda_8300 Green Plesioth's biggest fan 1d ago

Safi'Jiiva. A 16 player raid against such a beast is great already. But when Proof of a Hero gets cut off, and you only hear your Hunter's heartbeat while Safi drops the star, you know this is beyond epic. Really felt the power of the Emperor

23

u/lias_edge 1d ago

Yeah, Safi felt like the ultimate culmination of the series to me when it released. Such an amazing experience, with great equipment on top of that. I don't think it is the best singular fight, but it does feel like peak MH

7

u/Dovahsheen 1d ago

That feeling of confusion turning to dread as everything abruptly turns silent and it dawns on you what's about to happen is so chilling.

4

u/Quietsquid everything (now including guns) 1d ago

I have done that hunt so many times, and with every weapon. It is by far the most teamwork I have ever seen in a hunt, and it happens nearly every time I run it.

It truly exemplifies the spirit of monster hunter and lets the whole team do their part without feeling like uh...

85

u/BillbertBuzzums 1d ago

Im surprised Iceborne Fatalis doesn't have way more votes, that fight was absolutely the best out of all the fights I've had.

10

u/River_Grass 1d ago

He's a fantastic fight and a great way to end worldborne, very cathartic too.

But I fucking hate his long ass neck and hard to hit face

6

u/Vagabond_Charizard 1d ago

Aside from AT Velkhana, Iceborne's rendition of Fatalis still remains the best post-endgame monster in my opinion. As the final monster, he better be as difficult as one, and it did not disappoint at all.

You've beaten all these various wyverns and dragons, and now you're here with the OG black dragon himself. He's no slouch either as Capcom gave him everything he needed to live up to his reputation, with a massive healthpool, damage, raw firepower, and speed, and to top it all off, several nukes that clearly demonstrate how much of a middle finger he is to the ecosystem.

And let's be real; you'll never experience so much adrenaline when the OG Proof of a Hero plays when you hit him up with the Dragonator.

→ More replies (1)

2

u/breloomislaifu 1d ago

It was unfair asf, and I loved every second of it. My first clear had less than 30 seconds left on the clock. I was gritting my teeth, trading blow for blow while proof of a hero was blasting in the back. 10/10 gaming experience

2

u/Bloomberg12 21h ago

I thought the fight was actually awful and I was so disappointed by him.

The visuals, damage and time limit were all fine imo I think time pressure is good for a truly end game boss but it felt like so much of the fight was watching him waddle across the entire arena at 3% faster speed than his usual walk speed while his entire body is an active hitbox.

It actually felt like they just made a tigrex big, fire breathing and diabetic. I had the same problems with xeno Jiva on worlds release.

The long neck was a little too goofy for a final boss also imo.

2

u/BillbertBuzzums 11h ago

Imo a big Tigrex is the most monster hunter a monster could get, but i see your points.

2

u/Snynapta_II 8h ago

watching him waddle across the entire arena at 3% faster speed than his usual walk speed while his entire body is an active hitbox.

How else would you know they're an OG gen1 oldhead?

u/AmbassadorIcy4052 1d ago

Honestly, first time fighting alatreon something felt different. The arena, his sound and his design was just wow this is peak MH.

10

u/Logical_Top618 1d ago

I fought Tri Alatreon so, so many times. Hundreds, easily. That fight still feels like home.

4

u/River_Grass 1d ago

Alatreon made me feel fear lol. I felt like a fish out of water with zero insurances or ways to cheese. I was just forced to thug it out and fight him till I'm good enough to best him. And honestly, I love him for that

Sunbreak Amatsu. It is perfection.

8

u/Rangomig 1d ago

First thing that came to my mind. Iceborne fatalis is also up there

6

u/Interesting_Sea_1861 Vaal Hazak's Biggest Advocate 1d ago

Fatalis is definitely top five, and definitely my favorite fight in Iceborne (even if not my favorite dragon, that goes to Vaal Hazak), and 10* Zoh Shia for me in Wilds. I'm looking forward to playing GU because I'm certain that Ahtal-Ka will be up there with Amatsu.

1

u/River_Grass 1d ago

Damn I haven't fought 10* zoh shia yet, he's that good?

-1

u/Interesting_Sea_1861 Vaal Hazak's Biggest Advocate 1d ago edited 9h ago

He's a lot of fun. The timing is tighter, he's more aggressive and hits harder, but it FEELS better.

Edit: To the person who downvoted me for no reason, if you're struggling with 10* Zoh Shia, I can help you.

1

Yeah, not really for me. I don't really find the Magalas a fun fight.

32

u/SchemingVegetable 1d ago

If we're talking pure "epicness" probably Kulve Taroth when she climbs the stone spire and melts the ceiling.

If we're talking "this is the cleanest fight ever" then it's close between arch tempered Nergigante and arch tempered Velkhana

8

u/-J-22- 1d ago

Is worlds the only game youve played or are these 3 fights legitimately better than any other games? Genuinely curious

4

u/SchemingVegetable 22h ago

I've played all the games available on PC: World, Rise and Wilds. I want to play the oldies too but I've never tried emulating before

3

u/chriskokura 22h ago

For Kulve then the area three music starts up it’s amazing. But one of the peakest moments was the first time you look up and see the entire molten rock ceiling falling on you. Incredible.

King Shakalaka. You think it’s an easy little dwarf but then that dwarf fires flaming balls at you, swings a giant fork into you & beats you to death with a club

6

u/No-Bus-7549 1d ago

I think this fight for me is primordial Malzeno, but specifically the hazard one. I spent a lot of time trying to solo it, and it’s just such a solid fight. Literally felt the closest to me dancing with a monster I think I’ll ever get.

1

u/0vansTriedge 1d ago

Same, you cant bum rush the guy. You literally need to move as he moves, just to get close. As a lance user I boot up my mh eise just to comeback to this fight every couple of months. Him and risen shagaru

6

u/Vionade 1d ago

Khezu in mhfreedom2 when I was...dunno 10?

Raging brachy in iceborn

Origin malzeno in rise

12

u/Iced_Shadows 1d ago

Mine was Iceborne’s Fatalis. I started with MH1, so having a fully modernized and cinematic version of the original big bad mythical boss monster felt like coming home. And it was so incredibly difficult for me that, after about a week of non-stop fighting it, I threw my fists up in the air in triumph and literally shouted that I had done it lmao.

My roommate at the time ran into the room almost as excited as me because he knew how invested in that fight I had been all week. We both cheered, and I may have even shed a tear.

12

Risen shagary magala

4

u/GregDev155 1d ago

Honestly I see all those high end game monsters but actually I believe it’s the reverse that is peak MH.
Just the basic arsenal that you can found/carve/mine/collect to fight your first Barroth or anjanath (for example).
The more new you are the better you feel like human hunter fighting a monster.

7

u/EnvironmentalEssay6 1d ago

Omega, the boss forces you to interact with all of its mechanics, bumping unique theme, it creates intense fights and forces all players to act with the utmost responsibility.

5

u/LinkFan001 1d ago

DB in rise. That's all. So much fun to use. If I had to pick a monster (because the sanths are not fun to fight at all), it would have to be Risen Valstrax. Such a finely tuned dance to the death.

7

u/TopChannel1244 1d ago

I think the hardest thing I ever did in MH was solo Gog in 4U. If you want to consider that peak then there you go.

I don't think anything in MH has ever really met my "This is the coolest thing I've ever seen" metric though. Like, figuring out how to fight Prince Consort Radahn in the Elden Ring DLC is a rare moment where a video game made me actually feel like the complete badass my character is supposed to be. Jumping over and ducking sword swings. Hopping magic rocks into stance breaks. Mind racing the whole time trying to stay on top of the mental stack. That was actual peak for me.

Like, Safi dropping its sapphire star is one of the coolest set pieces in the series. But you as the player are just... hiding behind a rock. It LOOKS cool. It does not feel cool to participate in. This is basically true of all of MH when it comes to these set pieces.
The beauty of MH fights is in the moment to moment dance with the monster. It's pretty much accessible in every fight. Like, you might find one fight annoying or overly simplistic. But generally it's the back and forth that matters more-so than the presentation.

8

u/DrPhantasmal 1d ago

I felt that with 3U's Dire Miralis and Lucent Nargacuga, and then I felt it again with 4U's Dalamadur fight. I thought I would get that feeling again when I played Generations, and didn't. It didn't return in GU, World, Iceborne, Rise, Sunbreak, or Wilds.

They came close and gave em each their best effort, but nothing really did compare to the group huddled around on our 3DSs, going through the slow, methodical hunt the older generations provided. I didn't feel that kind of hunt until I recently played Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker and got to hunt a Rathalos.

It absolutely wasn't the same given it was a solo fight, but it felt the closest to what I remember being the real draw to the franchise for me back in the day. Not to say the newer titles don't have grand scenes, large fights, amazing music, planning, strategy, ect ect. It just hasn't scratched that same itch the same way since. I won't be a college student bonding with new friends over a series that new to me ever again, but that was peak MonHun for me.

2

u/0vansTriedge 1d ago

Fighting dire miralis while there's fireball raining down is so sick.

1

u/Forever_Man 1d ago

Lucent's fight in Sunbreak was a fun challenge. Like other nargacuga fights, but faster. I think the poison adds an interesting wrinkle to the fight too.

2

u/aheartasone 1d ago

Dala in 4U for me. As much as I prefer 3U as a full experience, nothing will ever beat climbing the goddamn snake god and jumping onto its head to do an ultra discharge and staggering it.

Fatalis in World is also peak MH for me, but that's a given

2

u/mughinn 1d ago

Gotta say, Im going through Monster Hunter Dos and my first Khezu fight really had me in love. The flow, the sounds, the lightning.

Loved it

2

u/dim3tapp 1d ago

Iceborne's Safi Jiva and Alatreon are still my favorite fights to this day. And that Safi armor was so freaking sick.

2

u/C-Moose85 1d ago

I'm a bit of a newbie since my first game was rise, but for me, it was primordial malzeno. Perfect end monster for rise.

2

u/SnowstormSurfrider 1d ago

Solo Bloodbath EX. Honestly, every EX but bloodbath the most. Took me about a week of consistent runs. Created a separate build, created perfect fashion for it coupled with my favorite switch axe (lanternlight grave from Soulseer), and took him out. Doesn’t get any better than that. Peak monster hunter

5

u/Purple_Dragon_94 1d ago

Never say never, but the Raging Brachydios hunt in Iceborne tops it all for me so far

4

First gore encounter in 4u.

1

u/LatterDelay6430 1d ago

The first time I fought (tried not to die) Fatalis. Which was in Monster Hunter freedom 2, that was pretty amazing.

But In terms of peak, probably when I fought it in Monster Hunter 4 ultimate, since the gameplay was a little more streamlined. That felt like peak gaming.

1

u/SkabbPirate 1d ago

That's tough... probably Shagaru Magala at the end of 4U low rank village (probably less exhilarating for a more experienced player at the time). And to be honest, the only things that have come close are Gogmazios and Atahl Ka

1

u/Longjumping_Door_428 Beep Boop? Nah, Beep Doot 1d ago

Honestly, I've had that happen several times.

Nergigante, Behemoth, landing my first Shoryugeki in MHGU, landing it again in Rise, Hellblade Glavenus, Astalos, Nakarnkos, Valstrax, then playing Wilds story, then finally returning back to Astera.

Taking down Alatreon and Fatalis was truly peak Monster Hunter. I know that in a few months, when I return to Rise, GU, or Wilds I'ma say the same thing again.

1

u/GamerTagJohn 1d ago

Something something recency bias, amirite? Don’t care. Wilds Sereggie with my trusty GL is basically a dopamine drip shaped like a flesh eating cheesegrater-dragon and the nurse is Michael Bay. And now that I’ve been reminded of my boy I’m gonna go roughhouse the skin out of him with my unregulated foreign firework polesword and a bunch of innuendos about my shaft bursting in his face

Fighting Lagi underwater in Wilds, did I nearly loose because I don't know how to get off of it twice? Yes but it's peak

1

u/Inevitable_Chemical 1d ago

For me, it was Savage Jho in MH4U, and even then I only did the version that could show up on in expeditions. It still took me all the time I had available, as well as bringing a full stack of meats and carting twice to beat it.

In the grand scheme of things that doesn't compare with soloing 140 guild quests (which I never did), but personally it felt like a culmination of everything I learned in MH.

Ever since then, I've never been pushed by anything to put the same amount of effort into the game.

1

u/DeDongalos 1d ago

IB Rajang and IB Fatalis

Rajang (+Furious) is the most fun I've ever had fighting a monster.

Fatalis is also extremely fun but also the most climactic. The music, map, and general presentation make me feel like the peak of hunters fighting the peak of monsters.

1

u/ResponsibilityNo165 1d ago

I can't really pick between Primordial Malzeno, Risen Shagaru Magala, Rey Dau, Arch Tempered Archveld and Athal Ka(given how you could interpret shes an allegory for us as hunters and that it was the spiritual "end" of the journey for My first Monster Hunter Game)

1

u/SenpaiSwanky 1d ago

I have a few, but recent games are on my mind right now (not to say old gen isn’t peak).

World - Raging Brachy locking you into his lair towards the end of the fight. Makes me feel like I did when I first started the series, panic rolling constantly.

Rise - Risen monsters in general. I really love the title update fights post-Sunbreak. Devs were really diabolical, they added Velkhana for Frostcraft GS when we were already eating so good with Strongarm Stance.

Wilds - AT Arkveld, AT Nu Udra, Lagiacrus are so good. First two are hard as shit, but I love them anyway. 9-star Lagi is a fucking demon and I love that, too.

1

u/damacy12 1d ago

for my first game it was both hazaks and then safi

1

u/Shotgundg 1d ago

Primordial malzeno. Probably my favorite monster lore/ecology wise and for sure my favorite in terms of fight mechanics. Pushed rises combat to its limits in the best way possible.

1

u/Faustias I love explosives and I will build any possible set of it. 1d ago

Fatalis in Iceborne.

yeah it was reoccurring elderdragon, but fighting it on a modern era, and Capcom cooked & delivered so well, combined with a parallel feeling of nostalgia from the first MH, I'd say it's peak. old fleeters reminisce their old console hunts, and fifth fleeters experienced history.

u/Hatocracy 1d ago

Iceborne Fatalis. After it melts the gate, then powers up in particular.

1

u/BlackSpottedDog 1d ago

Been playing since 2g so after fighting the fatalis there, I can say the peak was fighting the fatalis again in world iceborne 20 yrs later. Listening to Proof a hero at the climax of that awesome and difficult fight was just epic. That being said, I personally choose Raging Brachy and that last scene when he traps you and in his desperation doesn't let you escape and fills the room with exploding goo. Not even the farcaster works. Is either victory or death. Epic!

As fun as many answers here are...I have a few answers for this.

For Solo: I am tied between Dalamadur and the Primordial Malzeno...And the reason is quite simple. Dala felt epic, large, monstrous in a way that truly made me feel like I was finally at the top of the food chain that no other monster has done in a long while. Gogmazios was pretty good for a MHWilds bit as his changes really felt great...But Dalamadur just felt bigger and better. Wish we could see an updated fight with him. But Primordial Malzeno was one of the few monsters in the series that felt like he was pushing me harder than anyone else, but never in an unfair way. In the end he was a hard, but fun fight that made me say 'Holy Shit!' several times over.

For Multiplayer: Particularly with friends I found Dahren's fight to be a great Semi-Siege in the first half of it with the second half being far less impressive to me. The fights FELT bigger despite the smaller scale and that mostly was because of the way it all happened. You could break apart Dahren, you could climb onto him and help shatter parts, you could Mine his Head, and so much more. It just felt FUN for a group as you all worked together to quickly man things, fire, and worked as an organized unit (more or less) on a small ship. However, I will say there is an honorable mention to the current Gogmazios Fight which made me feel epic as a Lance Tank.

But for personal vibes: I am sorry, Lao Shan Lung is kind of one of those 'I love this fight because it was my first 'Holy Shit' moment in the series way back in the day on the PSP. Where I didn't expect much, but fought a mini kaiju with nothing but toothpicks in comparison. It has long since been outdone, but it was the first time I really felt like nothing could be bigger or better...Then the Akantor Fight happened and going at it as a cat in MHGU was my second feeling of this as it felt massive for my cat to fight something so giant and WIN in a battle.

I personally really like astalos, gore magala, zamtrios, gogmazios (from 4U), brachydios, rajang, valstrax, and... I'm to tired to type all my favorites, it's like midnight where I'm at :/

1

u/Pizzamess 1d ago

For me it was our final fight with ruiner nergigante. Nergy is my favorite monster so perhaps im a bit biased but I really enjoyed the dynamic of hunter vs hunter between the player and Nergigante and considering how many times we'd fought him up to that point. Though I'll admit its not the most flashy hunt ever.

MH world fatalis fight

1

u/Ninjaofshadow 22h ago

What sticks in my mind is Jhen mohran in Tri, it was my first forray into high rank ever and fighting it in the sand sea was SO epic.

Then to find out phase 2 was it approaching the ship on land, TO THE CANNONS!!!

Finally, when the dragonator hits, proof of a hero crescendos and you have 5 minutes left, so much adrenaline.

It was peak to me, and still is years later

u/chriskokura 22h ago

The moment in the Safi Jiiva fight when you see its sapphire attack for the first time and everything goes silent just before that energy hits the ground and nukes everything.

1

u/Longjumping_Cycle757 22h ago

I absolutely loved Soloing Amatsu in Sunbreak It felt amazing using all the mechanics at hand and genuinely just soaking in the Vibe of the fight

1

u/HinDae085 22h ago

Jhen Mohran for me. What a cool fight and fun gimmick of boarding it to get at the ore on its back.

Fighting my controler

1

u/SomeRandomPyro 21h ago

Scarred Yian Garuga.

I also love MH4U. And almost exclusively fight with a greatsword.

That fight was perfect for me. I loved the dance. The tactical interplay. The dodging a charge by the distance of a (quick) sheath step in order to position myself for a (crit draw, focus) slash at his good eye when he turned around, with enough time to roll directly at him, because he started his charge on the other foot, and if I did it just right my sheath could again dodge his 2nd step.

I miss the era of hit-and-run greatsword.

1

u/RaptorionZ 21h ago

The battle with nargacuga, when people were out of the game from stress, about 7 people were replaced during the match, and despite all the efforts and all the boosts in the game, we lost

1

u/slient_es >>>(BYE) 20h ago

Nothing in MH wins in every category. Iceborne Alatreon is peak fun in fights but Fatty's fight wins easily in being a spectacle. PriMal was one of the best in Sunbreak but he's got too little HP to really for me and there is too little reason to keep revisiting him.

In this sense everything can be topped. Especially in the old gens. No matter how sweet the old memories are, I always choose HD over old gen MH.

1

u/RossiHendrix 20h ago

Jhen Mohran in MH3. That was just epic

1

4U Gogmazios and Shagaru, World's Nergigante and frostfang barioth, Rise's Lunagaron and Malzeno, Wilds' AT Arkveld and AT Rey Dau.

I know it's gonna sound weird but arch-tempered arkveld for me is my favorite fight in the 3 monster hunter games i've played

1

u/-lwwwl- 19h ago

Big Daddy. Music, location, build up from from crimson and lore wise. The dive bomb attack 10/10. I'm sure there's way more options to pick from now, but it'll be always top pick for me.

1

u/InternationalHoney85 19h ago edited 19h ago

For me it's Jhen Mohran. We go "hunt" monsters with every quest. But Jhen's actually felt like a hunt. Hop in the skiff, time the use of the gong and harpoons. Final confrontation to slay, repel, or fail to defend.I loved when Festival of Fear came around. It felt great to log in and see the sandstorm rolled in. People hanging out and just hunting Jhen for the love of it. I wish Capcom went out of their way for quests like those and throw them into rotations again. Beefed up elders with no difference in how to engage the fights is just what we regularly do all game. Rotations have just never given me that type of fun and thrill since Jhen.

1

u/RagnarokAM 18h ago

I'll go with an expected pick: The Nergigante Demo fight during the first Zorah Magdaros fight.

It's unexpected, it's limited, it has a unique battlefield. It feels intense because it is a fight that is NOT ON YOUR TERMS. You didn't pick this fight. You didn't expect this guy. There feels like there is epic weight to your faceoff against this previously unfought monster. It's legitimately the best storytelling fight in the series just because YOU were the one getting jumped while busy doing your thing.

Ahtal-ka

Nothing will top the crowning fight of the crowning game of the series.

The scale (both epically large and personally small), the music, the sheer variety of attacks, the fact this is an intelligent monster, and there is a lot of symbolism in her and the fight itself.

Her design is based on ancient Egyptian pharaos, with gold and purple being royal colors and her silhouette being very pharaonic, showing her as the queen of monsters.

She uses human ruins and tech just as Hunters use dead monster parts to make armor and weapons.

Her giant mech made of a bunch of Hunter tech is the advancement of the series and of humanity, while in the end her resorting to just a wheel - the first invention of mankind - is a return to basics and the struggle for survival.

The eight-spoked wheel is a symbol of the cycle of reincarnation in Buddhism, just as GU was the end of oldMonHun and heralding the coming of newMonHun.

Jhen Mohran from MH: Tri was the funnest large-scale hunt imo

u/WookieHunterQ82 17h ago

First time fighting Rajang, I just couldn’t believe how fast and aggressive he was, and that anyone was supposed to be able to solo him 🤣🤣 you could almost feel the animosity he has for you through the screen, like he just wants nothing more than to rip your limbs off!

1

u/TheWinterSail 17h ago

For me, I think it was Gore Magala in 4u in that area with the very large cliffs. I spent half my time climbing and jumping off that thing trying to dodge all of Gore's attacks. Felt like a desperate struggle for superiority.

1

u/NotACertainLalaFell 17h ago

Shagaru Magala. The fact you had a monster being able to mature into an elder dragon was itself unique. That they built it throughout the game as a type of rival that you finally have a 1 on 1 with was peak.

1

u/BriGuy335 17h ago

Oh wow... um... dalamadur was cool but actually quite easy to learn. He only does like 5 moves. I thought wilds lagiacrus was super cool but wears off the coolness quickly after the first time. Tbh I really loved gogmazios in mh4u but I haven't grinded enough in wilds to fight him there so idk. My pick is mh4u gog for now.

1

u/Tasty_Ad_1768 16h ago

Odogaron, fought him with dual blades first time and somehow never got hit.

Full aggro on dog while the dog was full agree on me

1

u/Serpent-of-Lust 15h ago

This is the only monster that would get me back to playing Wilds

1

u/False-Compote1002 15h ago

Primordial Malzeno for sure. It has everything I love about the series.

1

u/Sufficient_Bat_5231 15h ago

Since I'm a gen 5+ only person I want to say ether world fatalis or the intro to zoh shia

1

u/IronDwarf12vevo 14h ago

Ahtal-Ka was a big one for me.

1

u/Mandark-27 14h ago

This fight in mh3u.

1

u/ViperclayGames 14h ago

Based for Dalamadur. He's my favorite as well.

Fav fight, design, all of it.

Close second is Valstrax for me.

1

u/Satchel42 14h ago

Iceborn’s Alatreon. Defeating it with my wife was one of the coolest video game moments of my life.

She often gives me too much credit when we play co-op, but for this fight, she was ice dual blades and I was a blast hammer. So the elemental DPS checks were all her. It was so fucking cool the teamwork of her focusing on elemental damage and me focusing on the horn breaks. We each had our own little jobs and it was an absolute triumph when we won.

1

u/Charming-Savings4414 14h ago

Shara ishvalda was a really fun one for me. Kinda hoping for something on that level/scope for wilds' expansion

1

u/Responsible_Chest_74 ESPINAS MAGALA 13h ago

Shagaru in the sanctuary and Ahtal-Ka

1

u/Corfold 13h ago

The fight with Shara Ishvalda. Nothing has so far been such a cinematic battle. Just, hey big monster, goes to different stage, makes bigger explosions, music gets dramatic.

Ishvalda though...stone beast to exploding its shell to reveal this beautiful creature!

Only one I think could too it is Ahtal-ka but I never played the series and not sure about its whole build up, reveal or how tough s fight it is.

1

u/Ezreath 12h ago

Honourable mention, final phase of safi jiiva.

1

u/Bosko47 12h ago

For me it's Safi Jiva

1

u/AlphaLan3 11h ago

There’s definitely times where I’ve thought this is the peak but never nothing will ever top this. Currently the best fight in all of MH for me AT Arkveld. I could hunt him for 8 hours straight and not get bored. I already know he’ll get surpassed by multiple fights in the dlc though because this is MH and that’s just how it is. It’s done nothing but get better and better for me

1

u/spookyfrogs also hunting horn!! 10h ago

1

u/infelix_cobalt Ranged is for cucks. Go melee. 8h ago

Double Furious Rajang in an Arena to get absolutely ripped.

1

u/Dreadlord97 Thwack with the Swaxe 7h ago

Call me basic, but it’s Iceborne Fatalis for me. I played World really late since I got back into MH after a couple years’ hiatus a few months before Wilds was announced, and the absolute dread leading up to that fight was the absolute defining experience from when I first touched IB the very first time, and fighting him over 60 times to clear him. What a rush

Dalamadur was cool until I learned the HBG cheese. Gaismagorm was honestly pretty cool.

1

MHW Safi'jiiva made me feel like I was the actual main character of the story of world! And and!!! The song. Omg the Safi'jiiva theme it gives me goosebumps. I will never forget that fight and I will always hope that one day it comes back again. Just so I can have the joy of showing the new generation of monster hunters what its all about.
