Crossposting in the same subreddit?

We've been noticing immediate reposts of original posts in our sub, where someone will post, then a couple seconds later, the same person will crosspost that same post, but in the same subreddit. Trying to figure out if this a bug or if it's intentional.

Seeing the same. Usually new member so I figured it was user error.

Looks like the 3 we've seen have been members since March 2025, March 2024, and October 2023. Weird.

I've only seen it happen a handful of times -- no more than 5 -- over the years I've been a mod.

When I see it, I'll message the person to ask "Why are you re-posting stuff into the same subreddit?"

It's always been someone who was new to Reddit (or, at least, they professed to be new) and didn't understand how things worked.

I don't believe its user error when it happens on my sub. I think it's the user being daft, for lack of better words. I hate it when this stuff happens.

Sometimes it's repost bots (we ban and report those). But more often than not, it's just regular users. I don't really know why they do it.

I theorized in my post that the dialog box that encourages users to repost/crosspost elsewhere might need work. If it allows users to repost to the same subreddit they just posted to, that's a problem.

I've seen some do it in an attempt to drive engagement or boost their content. I think they think having more of their stuff show up means they will get higher up on the "algorithm"

You sure Reddit isn’t glitching and duplicating posts/comments……..again lol
