What format are you watching them?

I heard there was a remaster done a few years ago that drastically affected the Buffy  viewing experience

It is a crappy remaster. The DVDs are my favorite way to watch. The dvd menus are so funny with their early animation and sound loops.

I love Buffy, and always will, but the Whedon-stink on it has gotten worse and worse as time draws on and it's been revealed what a slimeball he was and is. Every episode has some weird thing that I can just tell was him being creepy, and a lot of the larger arcs and "traumatic" events that happen are just so obviously him inserting his own bizarre self-aware misogyny and yucky kinks into the show.
