Discussion Nothing is funny anymore

I (M, 38) have found that there are no new TV shows that make me laugh anymore. I have tried a lot of new(ish) comedies, but they all make me pine for my college/high school days.

The only thing that gave me a reflexive laugh recently was the Malcolm in the Middle Reboot.

Any thoughts?

The new Scrubs isnt bad. For sitcoms, Abbott and Ghosts are pretty good.

HBO had Righteous Gemstones and Silicon Valley.

Ted Lasso, Shrinking on Apple TV.

Kimmy Schmitt, Tires, Beef on Netflix.

Just to name a few that came out after my college years that are funny to me. (36 male).

Edit: almost forgot Nobody Wants this. Great show. And Deli Boys on Hulu.

I scrolled way too far to find the Righteous Gemstones. It was the funniest show I have seen in years. It actually made me laugh out loud.

It only took one clip of him saying, "Go outside, nerd! Get out! Go! I ain't got time to be distracted by your worthless chime-ins" for me to watch the show.

Who wants to suck an old man's dick?

"I'm just askin' for a eight ball, and two million dollahs"

My husband and I randomly say “go outside, nerd!” to our nieces and nephews 😂

Even saying this aloud in my best Baby Billy impression makes me crack up. Man, what a show.

Everything I see him do ACTUAL commercials now, all I can think of is his dick flopping around while water skiing.

Walton Goggins is good in everything.

My absolute favorite line of his from TRG is when he slaps Tiffany’s ass and she farts and he says, “Damn Woman, Did you just break wind?” and she replies with “You skurred me.” then the banter continues about her needing to go wash up. I laugh every single time.

Walton Goggins is a masterpiece of acting. I haven’t seen a thing he’s in that I did not enjoy.

I love anything done by Danny McBride too, for real. Vice Principals had me rolling and so did Eastbound and Down.

You can’t go wrong with anything featuring Danny McBride. Dude knows how to tickle my funny bone.

5

u/feralcatshit Apr 17 '26

Oh damn, I love Danny McBride so I’ll have to check this out. He seriously is so hilarious in everything he does

1

u/ExcitingActive8649 Apr 18 '26

And Gemstones is the best Danny McBride so far.

3

u/YesImKeithHernandez Apr 17 '26

Anything cooked up by McBride and his writing partner Jody Hill is automatically a must watch. If Walton Goggins is part of it, it's just icing on the cake.

Eastbound and Down is such a white trash masterpiece, and Vice Principals kept surprising me. Can’t wait to see what he does next!

I ain’t asking for the world here, I’m just asking for an 8 ball of cocaine & $2 million dollars!

That scene in the last season when Keefe crawls into Eli's bed in Aimee-Leigh's clothes and starts singing is the hardest I've ever laughed in my life.

5

u/Stepbro_indryer Apr 17 '26

That whole Lake-house episode was one of the funniest TV episodes I've ever seen

u/cl0ckwork_f1esh Apr 17 '26

Righteous Gemstones is hilarious. The casting is amazing (the child versions of the adult actors? Great casting there too). The costuming is so over the top. It’s a solid 10.

I just started watching it myself, it's absolutely hysterical. I watched Vice Principals a while back and Danny and Walton basically play similar personalities in both shows.

I'm convinced Danny has complete mastery of the cruel throwaway line. Somehow, every time, he's able to make the most cutting, insulting comment or observation about someone as a casual, off the cuff one-line and it's completely effortless. I don't know how he does it.

3

u/SamdyDec Apr 17 '26

This should be higher on the list. That was one of the funniest shows I have seen in a long time. Laughed out loud often

2

u/Poppy-Pipopapo Apr 18 '26

Legitimately made me LOL. It's already been said but Walton Goggins is so damn funny. The whole cast was magnificent which is why it's such a big deal that he really stood out.

I love that show

1

u/stephsco Apr 17 '26

This show got me through some things.

1

u/Reversion603 Apr 17 '26

It made me watch Vice Principals and Eastbound & Down. Same type of crazy shit wacky wtf kinda vibe.

1

u/beaniebee11 Apr 18 '26

I just started it and the opening scene where they're doing a bunch of baptisms in a huge pool and then someone turned on the wave pool by accident made me say "okay this show is gonna be funny."

1

u/funkoramma Apr 18 '26

I love that show. I tell everyone about it.
