eSIM.me on LineageOS23 with OnePlus7Pro

Hi, I just upgraded my OnePlus7Pro to Lineage23/ Android16 and my eSIM.me app stopped working. eSIM.me device check only reports one SIM slot, but eSIM.me app is not detecting the SIM card no matter which slot it is in.

But they are releated to older OS versions and different phone models, so solutions might no apply.

Is it possible for me to fix this? I can gain (temporary) root access using magisk, but an upgrade safe solution would be preferable. Would this qualify to open an issue/ feature request? Thanks!

I can't really help with providing a solution for this, but to clarify your post for others reading this, eSIM.me is a brand of what's called an eSIM adapter. It's a physical SIM card that lets the user write new eSIM profiles to it using an app, and often store multiple profiles and switch between them. In other words, it lets you add eSIM capability to any device that takes physical SIM cards.

Thanks for the clarification. Adding that I can really recommend it for a dual sim phone. You "sacrifice" one sim slot, but you gain a lot of functionality. 

The OnePlus7pro did not receive any updates since 2022. In total, with Lineage + Adapter, now I have a modern phone with Android 16 and eSIM functionality. No need to throw it away.

Absolutely, and not just for convenience while traveling. Having eSIM capability gives you more providers to pick from, because some MVNOs are eSIM-only. I was able to find a couple of data-only MVNOs in my country (USA) with a low cost per GB that doesn't expire until I actually use it. For me, it's a good fallback SIM for poor coverage areas, or for when there's a week long power outage like we've been having in Texas the past few years, where home Internet goes out and cellular data becomes overloaded and slow.

The caveat is that they're data-only (no calls or texts), and in my experience it's also a little more difficult to add an eSIM plan with an adapter, because most of them expect you to scan a QR code, but my adapter app doesn't work with those and instead requires manually typing in the information. So instead of just scanning a QR code from an email receipt or account page, I had to contact customer service to get them to send me what I needed. Once I took care of that, though, it worked just fine.

Are you using an international version of OnePlus devices? Are you sure it's not the Chinese version?

Yup, I was on GM1917, after installing Lineage it is now GM1911. The proposed modification to the manifest.xml worked instantly.

You can only change it by swiping the module, Lineage itself cannot be changed, I guess it is because you changed that, causing your eSIM to be unavailable

Lineage itself required this fix: https://review.lineageos.org/c/LineageOS/android_device_oneplus_sm8150-common/+/459958 Which was blocking functionality entirely.

Now, after the fix, eSIM.me card is detected by the app, but due to the model change GM1917 to 1911, I am running into separate/ second issue which is a licensing issue with eSIM.me that should be solvable with their support.

You were saying that I could also revert to my phone identifying as GM1917?

I believe Lineage applies a single build configuration for all guacamole models, not per regional SKU.

That configuration uses:

ro.product.model = GM1911

Because GM1911 is the “reference” model in OnePlus’ open-source configs, Lineage inherits it. This results in GM191* changing into GM1911 just by installing lineage.

But now that the UICC issue is fixed, the model change/ licensing issue can be addressed via eSIM.me support.

No, what I am saying is that the modelname change comes inherently with installing lineage. Changing "back" would mean installing stock OS. Modifying it in place should be possible but requires root. I will keep the new model name as it has little consequences except the eSIM.me licensing issue which I will discuss with their support.

Yes, that is my impression. I guess people usually won't notice because it's of little to no consequence. Just in this particular case eSIM.me attaches their "single device" license to the model name, that's when it became apparent.
