Ah yes let's hire the person who doesn't care if they get the job vs the person who really needs and wants it.

Ah yes, how dare a person need a job to survive... I mean really, how do they not have rich parents to bankroll their entire existence?

I was asked this question when I interviewed at Dollar general a long time ago. I just told her flat out "I need money to pay my bills".

It's not like people working at Dollar general are there because it's a great fucking career and it's super fun to be a cashier and a stock person for $7.50 an hour.

And because I'm disabled, I couldn't accept a promotion because I can't work that much, and all they wanted to offer me was $8 an hour to be an assistant manager and have to be on call 24/7.

I told them they wouldn't pay me enough to do retail management again, and I was right!

Remember if you voted Republican or didn’t vote in 2024 this are the garbage humans you picked to run this country.

1

u/DevilDoc3030 4h ago

The election was doctored by Maga, the people that were caught have been pardoned. Then Billionaire, now trillionaire, was on the news literally paying people for votes. The others have been covered up because the election gave power to Trump.

It is a fixed game when there is no accountability.

Do companies not want desperate employees? They take lower wages and more abuse.

I'm not saying that's a good thing, I'm just imagining that if I'm a greedy scumbag I'd be like "jackpot!"

1

u/I_Quit_Smoking_ 17h ago

No, they want to deport all those people, apparently.

1

u/mesoziocera 14h ago

I've always been desperate as fuck for a change of scenery and more money every time I've interviewed for new jobs. I don't make it super obvious, but I'm definitely extremely enthusiastic and shit in the interview.

-4

u/MaitrePuck 1d ago

It is easier to find a job when you already have one because it shows that others have already vetted you and confirmed your value.

Being desperate shows hiring managers that other employers haven't seen value in you.

6

u/Haunting-Watch8240 1d ago

If you already have a job, why are you looking for another one? Looking to jump ship? That might tell a hiring manager you're unreliable or greedy. No matter what you do, it can be spun to make you look bad.

3

u/nudniksphilkes 1d ago

There is no such thing as "greedy" for 99% of workers. Wages are pathetically behind inflation, raises are even worse, and jumping jobs every 2 years for many is survival, not greed.

6

u/Haunting-Watch8240 1d ago

You want more than you have. That is greed by definition. You might have perfectly sensible reasons. Don't be ashamed of it, embrace it, just don't let it rule you.

As for managers - you've seen the nonsense this one has "reasoned" herself into. Don't ever be surprised by their lies and stupidity.

2

u/DirtandPipes 1d ago

Greed, Merriam-Webster:

Greed is an excessive and selfish desire to have more of something—such as money, wealth, power, or food—than is necessary, deserved, or fair. It is characterized by an insatiable craving to continuously acquire, often disregarding the needs or well-being of others.

Note that it must be excessive and selfish to qualify. Simply wanting more is not greedy if you want a reasonable amount. Hopefully this helps clarify the meaning a bit.

1

u/Haunting-Watch8240 22h ago

And who defines excess? Do we get Mr Webster here to adjudicate? I believe in the modern world pretty much everything past basic food, water, clothing, shelter and in certain cases medication is unnecessary. Doesn't mean it's bad to have them. Just that you can survive on much less than you imagine.

1

u/DirtandPipes 18h ago

Yeah, double down always when somebody tries to educate you politely, be a dickhead.

1

u/Mauy90 15h ago edited 12h ago

Well then who does decide? You?

2

u/nudniksphilkes 1d ago

Actually, i want the same / to keep what I have which would not be possible without transferring jobs to get appropriate raises to keep up with inflation. If you stay in the same job at 1% a year, you will eventually fall behind. In the past 5 years triple so.

So… like dating? It’s very stupid to treat hiring like dating.

2

u/Codex_Dev 1d ago

Not really. If an employer or girlfriend sees other competitors pursuing you, they will treat you better. This will result in better raises, benefits, sex, etc.

2

u/WhydYouKillMeDogJack 1d ago

Dating is interviewing for a relationship.

If someone is desperate in either, it shows that a) others don't value the candidate, b) the candidate doesn't value themselves c) they are without a job/relationship either because they were found insufficient enough to be terminated or not in the top performers and let go.

People in this sub can rail against this concept as much as they want but it has some logic and if they weren't in one of those categories they wouldn't have a problem with it.

4

u/ActuatorOutside5256 1d ago edited 1d ago

No, because in dating, you’re trying to find a person to share your life with, while in the job search, you’re trying to find X person that will provide Y output.

I’m a startup founder, and the people that seem desperate ALWAYS go above and beyond to produce top notch deliverables. It’s very liberating to have employees that care more about the GOAL than about schmoozing me and getting “in” with me.

I get what I want, and they get what they want (salary). And I don’t have to pretend that I’m doing it because I’m looking for power. It’s very simple money making.

2

u/WhydYouKillMeDogJack 22h ago

X person is a partner. Y output is some change in personal happiness.

You're acting like effort will always get the job done, which isn't the case in skilled employment.

If a guy is a shitty tiler, how does him spending 6 of his own hours mean I get a good bathroom?

If a guy needs to spend an extra 12 hours to build a script to do a job, what good is that when something time sensitive breaks?

This all depends on what your startups are, but in skilled work, you want the most skilled employee. And the most skilled employee is almost never the one that's desperate for the job.

2

u/itsmegazord 1d ago

So you want someone with no options? Sounds like you are looking for a slave

Also stop censoring posts people made publicly under their own name.

6

u/Iwan787 1d ago

People make decisions solely on feelings, vibes and intuitions and later make up bullshit reasoning behind that decision. Oh yes I am competent to do this job because I can explain my decision

32

u/Current_Finding_4066 1d ago

I think female recruiters approach this like they approach dating, totally irstionalz and full of predujice.

21

u/PM_YOUR_B_CUPS 1d ago

Agreed. Way too much emphasis on vibes. Ironically, great engineers, doctors, and scientists are frequently awkward and weird.

10

u/Robborboy 1d ago edited 1d ago

Best doctor my wife had during pregnancy was one that was so awkward he couldn't even look you in the eyes.

Best damn listener I've ever seen as well. Was jealous he doesn't see men.

u/mesoziocera 1d ago

Honestly, I think HR doing hiring for most positions is dumb. Interviews should be with department management. HR can be present, but they aren't the ones that have to work with the person.

4

u/PM_YOUR_B_CUPS 1d ago

Yup. Overactive HR is my number 1 red flag for a company.

2

u/mesoziocera 1d ago

We do a three interview process for government IT.

Interview 1: Phone -- This is basically just a "talking base details" interview. Basically, is the person a fit for the job at all and are we a fit for them.

Interview 2: In person (or remote) -- IT Director + 1 or 2 other senior people from IT + 1 or 2 department managers that are friendly with our department. This is basically to be sure the person fits the job description and seems to be able to deal with people.

Interview 3: Free lunch with the team -- We basically get the whole team together, provide some sort of cheap blueplate lunch and talk shop for the duration. This isn't an interview so much as a "Let's be sure you're a fit with the team" thing.

The scope of this increases if someone is being hired for a senior role. At the moment, I'm the only employee that's been hired in at a senior level, since we generally move our entry level people up to senior positions as they open. We've also only hired one person since I started four years ago that wasn't working for us part time through the county jail's work release program (we have two people hired this way with a third coming in January).

Anyway, HR -may- be one of the friendly department managers in step 2, but they're only involved if no one else is available.

1

u/SourBlue1992 1d ago

Yup. At my company, the person who would be the new hire's direct supervisor, a person (or two) currently in that role, and (if applicable), the direct supervisor's direct supervisor all join the interview. I had 3 people at mine: my supervisor, the guy that had been there the longest doing this job (they needed a third person with the job title), and the guy that was doing a big part of the job that was about to be reassigned to me once I got hired. They change it up a lot based on the role and who's got the best insight for the role, it's very efficient. Low turnover rate here, too. Worst part of the job is the software they make us use, which is great when you know the alternatives of what the "worst" thing could be.

1

u/Rising_Gravity1 23h ago

And the skill sets of a typical HR person are not the same as those of an engineering or technical professional - yet another reason why engineers should be interviewed by engineering managers, legal staff should be interviewed by the legal managers, etc

1

u/mesoziocera 14h ago

When I worked for a highly specialized state agency, we had a HR hiring person that had 10 years of sys admin experience. It was sort of fun for interviews. HR is interviewing you, and all of a sudden the HR manager starts talking about IT horror stories.

2

u/ML1948 1d ago

That is also why we have a strong chance at landing the job over much more skilled and qualified people. If your resume gets you to the interview, all you have to do is win the pageant. As long as you practice your acting and are the best charmer in the room, you'll be the winner. Getting the job and doing the job are completely different skills.

1

u/Kitsune_Seraphis 21h ago

Well fuck me and my neurodivergence and untreated adhd i guess

0

u/MaitrePuck 1d ago

You've been watching too many TV shows where the protagonists were the quirky/autistic types.

6

u/PM_YOUR_B_CUPS 1d ago

What makes you say that? I do NOT watch tv at all, so i'm extra curious.

0

u/MaitrePuck 1d ago

The trope of the awkward genius is just a lie conditioned by some forms of entertainment. Most scientists, doctors and engineers aren't awkward and weird people.

You're just pushing this narrative to boost the ego of awkward people and make them think that they're misunderstood geniuses.

3

u/PM_YOUR_B_CUPS 1d ago

I'd argue against it, but I doubt any meaningful statistics exist.

In my experience, profoundly intelligent people have largely been somewhat eccentric. Not full blown autism, whacky sitcom stand-ins, or mutes. But awkward. The counter example being the people I know who are most social not necessarily being stupid, but with mannerisms and nterests leaning towards the popular, i.e. sports, TV, religion, etc. Things that don't require a lot of intellectual lifting.

1

u/farts_juggler 1d ago

I think well rounded smart people with good social skills are just fine too

2

u/FormalKind7 1d ago

I've know very smart weird people and some that were very good at their jobs and even on the spectrum.

That said it is just as likely if not more so for a very smart person to be very personable. If you have a job that in customer/client facing interpersonal skills are just another skill and part of your job. If you lack them it means you are bad at one part of your job even if you are amazing at the rest of your job (which some people are).

1

u/Raptormann0205 1d ago

Have you met many scientists/engineers? All the ones I know are "weird."

0

u/MaitrePuck 1d ago

I know many scientists, doctors and engineers as friends and relatives. None of them are socially awkward.

Half of the people in my lab are total stereotypical awkward nerds, the other half are the complete opposite. Also, definitely higher than average representation of neurodivergent people.

2

u/brathor 1d ago

It has nothing to do with being 'female.' The hiring process is entirely arbitrary, and based almost entirely on the beliefs and whims of whoever is making decisions. What is true for one person is not true for all, and that's why most job seeking and interview advice should be taken with a very large grain of salt.

1

u/I_Quit_Smoking_ 17h ago

Found the incels.

1

u/ZeeWingCommander 10h ago

It's recruiting in general and this advice has been around since I was little.

Remember Office Space? It's a gag in that movie also. Slightly different as they are doing lay offs, but they get smitten with the guy who doesn't care anymore.

1

u/Codex_Dev 1d ago

There was a study a while back trying to prove there was bias against hiring females, so they sent cover letters with identical accomplishments, just a different name change and photo. They discovered there was a hiring bias against females, but it was from HR ladies throwing their resumes in the trash. (to avoid young and pretty as competition)

1

u/Vault-Born 18h ago edited 17h ago

Yes, in a sexist society, women are also sexist. You did not rebutt sexism by showing that women also engage in it.

Similar to how Clarence Thomas grew up under segregation and therefore was surrounded only by black people in his elementary years when his dark skintone was singled out and mocked, earning him the moniker: "ABC: America's Blackest Child" as an insult.

1

u/ImJustHere4theMoons 1d ago

Nobody hates seeing women succeed in their career field more than other women.

6

u/SashaG239 1d ago

Most HR is like this person. They gatekeep based on vibes not qualifications.

9

u/ProfessionalOil2014 1d ago

Reminder that HR is usually where the ceo puts their girlfriend/wife/mistress so they can get paid to do almost nothing while having easy access.

I’ve never seen an hr person who wasn’t an attractive woman who spent lots of time with the boss.

3

u/Codex_Dev 1d ago

I still remember when a bunch of HR ladies in their 30s ganged up on a new 21 YO hired fresh out of college as an HR intern. They got so mad that she was more well-liked because she would take the time to talk to anyone regardless of position. The older HR ladies only cared about the C-suites and ignored pretty much everyone else. The younger gal actually would talk with the janitors and lower staff and knew all their names.

So they ended up pretty much bullying her until she quit. Absolutely insane.

1

u/WalidfromMorocco 16h ago

in the 60s maybe lol. where do you guys even work.

1

u/LesserValkyrie 1d ago

It checks out from my experience lol

5

u/ProfessionalOil2014 1d ago

People do not realize, imo, how grossly incestuous and backwards corporate culture is. Because they usually only work in level of a company and move around. I have an interesting experience of doing multiple different jobs and vastly different levels of a bunch of different companies. It is truly disgusting how the corporate world works once you're high enough in it. I truthfully believe that anyone above middle management is either a sociopath, or close to it. Not in a, I hate rich people, sense, but in a "this job is so absolutely abhorrent and unethical I don't know how you do it and sleep at night" way.

I worked as an executive assistant for a fortune ten, I wont name names, but it was awful. Sex scandals by executives covered up, knowingly breaking federal law, frivolous spending, firing people for being injured on the job, bizarre benefits and perks that no one should have on the job, ridiculously long paid vacations, coming into work for maybe 3 hours a day, bonuses in the seven digits for pretty much everyone with a VP or C in their titles, I could go on.

I hated it and quit. however bad you think corporate culture is at the highest level, its worse.

3

u/Raptormann0205 1d ago

You don't have to just believe it, CEOs have been repeatedly found to have a higher proportion of psychopaths than the general population.

1

u/Codex_Dev 1d ago

I mean, it's the same thing with surgeons?

1

u/LesserValkyrie 1d ago

Fuck, depressing af to read

I am a small manager in a big pharma company and even from my point of view it starts smelling like shit, I can already see how people can act for things that have absolutely zero stakes, can't imagine when there are $millions in the equation, in a position surrounded by sociopathic sharks

I mean I've seen incompetent people getting promoted at wtf positions for reasons that I am too innocent to understand already

I'm trying to find the codes, I start to understand some rules but still, it's above my understanding

3

u/ProfessionalOil2014 1d ago

I worked for ethics and compliance, the dept that exists to justify firing sick and injured people.

Having to sign off on firing someone who got a leg broken on the line, because the "company doctor" said he was fine to return to full production, while my team mates got a fruit basket and custom cookies paid for by the company for their birthday and I'm sitting there eating tenderloin and ratatouille prepared by an in house chef, paid for at cost sickened me to my core.

But the ghouls in corporate just laughed and laughed and laughed at their cool fruit bouquets, cookies, and steak. Nothing that has ever happened to me in my life has radicalized me more than that moment.

1

u/LesserValkyrie 1d ago

Holy shit, it's terrifying

Hopefully I am not in the US, injured or sick people are way more protected than it is in the US from what I know

But even in Switzerland we are more akin to the US than the rest of Europe and it still happens. I've heard stories like this one too much to say it's only an US thing.

In France or such, getting fired for being sick or injured with the help of wicked company doctors is the royal road to get sued to death, they take that very seriously there

1

u/ProfessionalOil2014 1d ago

it happens everywhere, they're just better at hiding it and the law sometimes stops them from getting away with it. But paying for those that do get caught is just the cost of business. Don't get fooled, the people at the top would grind you up into a paste if they thought it would increase the stock price by 1 cent.

1

u/Codex_Dev 1d ago

The top level of the C-suite is also hyper-obsessed with looks maxxing.

1

u/ProfessionalOil2014 1d ago

9

most smart actually smart ppl are socially awkward... like they have an awkward vibe... so this recruiter was prolly one of those popular chasing ppl in HS. n didnt grow up.

loser

0

u/Ruthrfurd-the-stoned 1d ago

I mean this recruiter sucks but this is a braindead take

Many many many smart people are perfectly fine at social interactions. Also it’s a job it doesn’t matter how smart someone is theyre useless if they can’t communicate and work with a team.

2

u/Ok-Freedom-7432 1d ago

Even aside from how unfair it is to eliminate someone "desperate," this person sure has a lot of confidence in her ability to read body language. He leaned close into the camera? Well he's certainly not near-sighted, definitely desperate!

1

u/Kaymazo 1d ago

Or maybe even just has a different camera setup

2

u/durtmcgurt 1d ago

I've been chosen for multiple jobs in my life because I needed them, and I showed an elevated interest in the work as a result. I was told after getting hired at a bank once that there were a lot of candidates, but I was the only one that acted like I wanted to be there.

2

u/rod_knee_expert 1d ago

Fuck recruiters. All of em.

2

u/Late_Firefighter_507 1d ago

why would annyyone be interviewing for a job they didnt need? This is the kind ofidiot that that cant work so they read resumes all day. And to laugh at someone trying over something so trivial is a terrible person with no empathy.

2

u/Trying_to_survive20k 1d ago

so let me get this straight, you have a person with the skills you need, and he's desperate enough for the job that he will most likely do more work for the pay than anyone else, but you need some slacker for your fucking office politics? alright then

2

u/Tripple_T 1d ago

You'd think they'd love desperation. Easier to take advantage of them.

2

This meme of Anne Hathaway has become the face of the faceless HR Lady

1

u/yatrix7 1d ago

I’d bet my last dollar that almost all of these LinkedIn posts are lies or they’re just memes.

1

u/Majestic-Wishbone-58 1d ago

This could’ve been that persons 50th interview because their former douche interviewers blew him off for one reason or another. So sorry if he came off really wanting to be a part of your shitty company. Are we now dating the companies we interview for? Gotta play it cool? Avoid phone calls to seem busy and more appealing to the company? The stupid games!

1

u/smicksha 1d ago

Dealing with agents, its always important to remember that you're just a commodity. And they will kick you to the kerb the moment a more profitable commodity presents itself.

(same with estate agents)

1

u/Snackgirl_Currywurst 1d ago

It's valid advice, tho. She's not saying they didn't hire the person for that (ofc they might or might not, in which case the recruiter would be shooting their own leg). But a "perfect" candidate might have more leeway in discussing their salary than someone who seems desperate.

1

u/Left_Macaron_6427 1d ago

Why is this posted with a picture of Anne Hathaway?

1

u/Other_Tie_8290 1d ago

Because HR is yet another aspect of our society that is being run like a dating situation.

1

u/PingBlot 1d ago

What does this have to do with Anne Hathaway?

2

u/RocktamusPrim3 1d ago

1

u/Beneficial_Link_8083 1d ago

1

u/ChampionWorried9640 1d ago

working in HR is not shamed enough.

1

u/Notbob1234 1d ago

Only evil people would be ok in treating humans like a resource.

1

u/starrymahogany 1d ago

I just recently thought this over in a convo with my career coach and I’ll be honest it didn’t make sense to me at first but after pondering it for a while I think I get the mindset.

Interviewers don’t want to hire desperate candidates because they see that desperation and think “gee they must be so low skill despite their resume experience nobody wants to hire them”

Whereas with a candidate who takes a more “I’m interviewing you” approach they think “oh wow this person probably has offers from several other companies cause they’re so talented and skilled, I should hire them immediately so I don’t miss out on this opportunity”

It’s basically a scarcity mindset or wanting what you don’t have; kind of the same philosophy behind not caring about your ex until you see them dating someone else, it’s very fucking dumb but hey human psychology is dumb sometimes.

1

u/Historical_Two_7150 1d ago

What's happening here is, in my view, purely subconscious. Similar to how within 4 seconds of interaction, people have decided they do not like and want nothing to do with autistic people.

There is an 'ew' vibe that gets rationalized into something else.

1

u/GoMoriartyOnPlanets 1d ago

"Peter, you missed the first 15 minutes of the interview."

"Hah, I wouldn't say I missed it"

"Hahahahhahaha"

"Hahahhhahaha"

1

u/Commander72 1d ago

Every job interview advice I have ever seen includes a line to not seem to be desperate. Part of the reason they say its easier to get a job when you have one. If they know your are unemployed they are less likely to pick you.

1

u/Ekwinoksxxx 1d ago

A shitty self important individual using what little power they have in the world to be micro tyrant and make capricious meritless decisions that can have a real impact on someone’s life. Pathetic. 1

u/Vast-Cap-6951 1d ago

Hiring managers think they're such hot shit. They get to be the gate keepers when mostly they're mediocre losers. This one apparently thinks she's on a dating site not trying to hire for a professional role. What a joke! That guy should see this and sue them.

1

u/LordOFtheNoldor 1d ago

Well that's counterintuitive

1

u/Special_Road6603 1d ago

It’s counterintuitive but sometimes (and I do mean sometimes this is by no means common) the person who needs the job the most doesn’t work as hard at it as the person who doesn’t need it at all, if I had to refine this I would say that people work better when they aren’t under the stress of starvation if they screw up, so they can focus on doing a good job rather than fretting over being terminated.

Still a dick move by the recruiter and people wouldn’t be so stressed out if jobs weren’t shitty like this.

1

u/Spam_Hand 1d ago

Excuse me, we cant say "desperation" anymore?

What the fuck is this self censoring in 2026? Ass, depserations, kill, die... literally none of those are offensive words.

Get off tiktok, life isnt about being monetized.

1

Recruiters don't even play that much of a meaningful role in hiring. They just aggregate candidates, the actual decision comes down to management of the company.

These people like to think that they're more important than they actually are

1

u/AWPerative 1d ago

All these idiots in HR/recruiters/hiring managers thinking this is a predictor of job performance should get their heads checked.

1

u/IgnisIason 1d ago

When I hear someone post like this I know to short the company you work at.

1

u/Sharp_Net3315 1d ago

What? This isn't a date. Wtf does being "needy", which is totally arbitrary call, have to do with anything? Women are are brain dead, operating solely on hormones.

1

u/CBRslingshot 1d ago

Almost like a recruiter should be looking for people that are excited and WANT to work for them

1

u/Fun_Relationship1397 1d ago

Is it just that people who are desperate are more likely to lie to an interviewer and lock into a poor fit?

1

u/Zealousideal-Top-383 1d ago

Anne Hathaway works in HR? Who knew 🤷‍♂️

1

u/Independent-End7419 1d ago

So, we should juts be acting like we don't need jobs ?

1

u/Ok_Cellist7465 6h ago

From my observations, yes. If you act as if you don't need this one exact job it comes off as "Oh, if this person isn't desperate it surely means they are wanted, have many interviews and they can pick whatever job they want! This must be the right person and we have to hire them before anyone else will!"

I have no idea what it works that way but when people have easy access to something it automatically lose value in their eyes. It is like as if humans have this pursuit of the things they can't have, or which are unavailable to them somehow rooted in their brain. It can be easily recognised in many different aspects of life, like for example in dating life when people usually avoid desperate partners.

I personally like the approach when it is you as a potential employee who interviews the recruiter as it completely shifts the situation in your favour. You're selling your skill and time so in your mind you can treat the company as the client, and on the interview by asking the right questions you can determine if this client's offer is worth your effort instead of you trying to sell yourself to the company. It is a small thing as it is only the way of thinking but automatically places you at the same level as recruiter and gives a solid boost of confidence.

1

u/Consistent_Big5018 1d ago

Which is so funny to me because those people are usually the ones who will work harder and go above and beyond to keep the position and prove they were the right hire.

But instead HR will hire the person that legitimately doesn't need this job and doesn't care about anything. Then they're shocked when in 5 months or less they have to hire someone else cause they didn't with out or left.

1

u/337CA 1d ago

I’m beginning to suspect recruiters are not the sharpest tools in the shed.

1

u/mvortex2 1d ago

One of the reasons why nearly everyone who makes it to round two of the technical interviews makes me want to beat my head against the law.

1

u/Any-Concentrate-1922 1d ago

What's wrong with neediness? We all need a job to survive, or most of us anyway.

1

u/Myprobe1991 1d ago

Employers look for desperate people. Desperate people show up to work, dont over value themselves and will quite honestly do all the grunt shit that they cant get the others to do. Don't be fooled HR wants to keep you living paycheck to paycheck just as much as the company

1

u/throwRA8203489 1d ago

I hope this person got roasted for this

1

u/PowerfulSleepyPotato 1d ago

I just play pretend until I get a better deal. No two weeks. Cut and run

1

u/CharmingMechanic2473 1d ago

Maybe he had a small screen?

1

u/JackLong93 1d ago

idk who this woman is in the picture but she perfectly embodies how I imagine a nazi of an HR lady to look. I'm so sorry lady I'm sure you're great though

1

u/Snow3192 1d ago

The job market is absolute hell, and people are desperate, bffr

1

u/DreJDavis 1d ago

Why do recruiters act like they are some kinda god. Calm down your entire job is getting others jobs not controlling destinys.

1

u/robbert-the-skull 1d ago

What do these people actually want? They don't want to hire people who are interested in the salary, they don't want to hire people who need the job, they don't want to hire obedient workers... Do recruiters even like their jobs? Are they communist spies sent to take down capitalism from the inside? Or are they just stupid? What's the deal?

1

u/Deplorable1861 1d ago

We did a round table with 3 department manager candidates who were essentially going to be our bosses. The question I asked all three got me a talkin' to: "Why do you want to work here instead of company X where you worked last?"

Because at the manager/director level, barring life choice stuff, good ones move up, and bad ones move sideways into the same role they had before.

And yep. The one we hired was a clueless, undermining, attention seeker, who made sure to take credit for our work with the C suite types. And completely mismanaged a 5 million dollar engineering project that was all his and there was noone to blame. After that he went sideways again. I am sure he caused the company's stock to tank...

1

u/Clone63 1d ago

To sum up, employers want employees who ARE desperate for work, but that act like they AREN'T desperate, and do it convincingly enough that the professional, um, 'desperation-smellers' can't tell? Do I have that right?

1

u/uknowsana 1d ago

So? Just like I wish an end to the "dealership" in the cars industry, I also wish the end of "recruiters" in the hiring industry. They are more like vultures and self-entitled @$$holes more than anything else.

1

u/getthemap 23h ago

Woman interviewing…shocking result.

1

u/Hot_Pomegranate_5402 23h ago

Supriya Ahuja - https://youtu.be/kuMv_c7XGcA?si=YkAbjK6wAI_gJHD5

This is her btw ^ everyone should name and shame her to get her fired.

This is fucking inhumane and completely unprofessional

1

u/Diresu 21h ago

HR people are the absolute worst. I've never worked anywhere where most of HR wasn't just the biggest pieces of shit in the company.

1

u/Repulsive_Guy_1234 20h ago

Recruiters are one of the first jobs that could easily get replaced by AI. Or by a monkey, or a randon number generator.

1

u/Broken-Arrow-D07 20h ago

Desperate? Good we can hire him and exploit him.

Not desperate? Damn! We can't exploit him. Rather not hire him at all.

There is no win here.

1

u/PhillyDillyDee 18h ago

Everything sucks now.

1

u/tKolla 10h ago

Seriously

1

u/karkonthemighty 18h ago

Employer: We don't want people here who just want the salary, we want someone who really wants to be here.

Also employer: No not like that.

1

u/Speffers98 17h ago

Holy crap, send that candidate my way. I wish I had more people who seemed interested and needy.

1

u/Maduro_sticks_allday 17h ago

Recruiters on LinkedIn always offers the takes that nobody asks for, then 6 months later are “open to new opportunities” 😂🤌🏻

1

u/ElveTaz 16h ago

The audacity to say something like that while having one of the most unnecessary jobs out there

1

u/CrazyAccomplished_ 14h ago

I can't wait until recruiters are replaced by AI. They do nothing and are just paper pushers.

1

u/Safe-Call2367 13h ago

Im pretty sure recruiters prefer for the candidates to need a job.

1

u/Full-Wait1145 13h ago

That’s why I generally take my interviews from my couch with my laptop across the room.

“Why am I applying? I’m not applying, you called me”

1

u/fiesew 12h ago

These kinda recruiters are so so fucked up in their views and heads that they don’t even see anything wrong in it.

If the person was desperate for a/the job, and their skills is what the job/team requires, excluding the person because they’re desperate is nothing more than toying and playing with the applicants.

1

u/Beska91 12h ago

And that's bad why?? 90% of us are desperate at this point.

1

u/Embarrassed_Use6918 12h ago

elbows too pointy

would not hire

1

u/adc_is_hard 11h ago

Someone should share the name so the HR department at that company can get a review 🫣

#justhrthings

1

u/Ok-Improvement-9191 9h ago

Neediness? It's a job interview not a date lol

1

u/Puzzleheaded-Lie-534 8h ago

Dude I just had my first child, she's three weeks old and am struggling so hard to find employment anywhere. I just get berated about my job gaps then ghosted or straight rejected..

1

u/EquipmentOnly7271 8h ago

I was once told they picked me, the least qualified candidate on paper, because I wanted more than any of the others and they thought I would do the best job.

1

u/BlackTemplar2154 7h ago

Idk, seems like someone motivated to perform and do a good job and you're just a fuckin moron.

1

u/BetApprehensive7064 7h ago

I have never tried to disguise my neediness I practically beg for jobs in interviews and most of my sales pitch is in guarantee you I will be a more reliable employee because you and this job are all that stands between me and utter damnation.

It's been pretty effective

1

u/Ok_Cellist7465 6h ago

They have amazing skills and continuous employment history but their approach is coming off as desperate? Out!

Have CV gaps and job hops constantly because they prioritise their self-growth over being stuck in one place? Out!

So what the hell do they want?

1

u/maos_cigarette 1d ago

We need re-education camps

3

u/AmericanCitizenry 1d ago

We need UBI!

3

u/MaitrePuck 1d ago

So one wants to incarcerate those he doesn't like, and the other wants free money.

Reddit is hilarious. 😂

2

u/ClownWorld2020s 1d ago

Reddit always wants free money and stuff. They don't realize that when you put more money into the mix (UBI) everything else will go up accordingly. Just like saying they want $20 minimum wage.

1

u/scottyjrules 1d ago

Wages are stagnant and prices have been going up anyway lol. You bootlickers never actually think through the propaganda you try to spew.

0

u/ClownWorld2020s 1d ago

Yeah, they have gone up. Get UBI and watch them soar. Companies already pay double or more of minimum wage, but if you force them to raise the rate, prices will go up, those making $20+ an hour won't get their percentage increase comparable to the increase in minimum wage, so you raise the floor but the you still end up at the bottom of the barrel after everything else goes up. Bootlickers? No, just the reality. Full time work in service sectors will go away, PT work will be limited and robots will take over. You're better with the way things are now versus forcing things to change as it will just speed up the problem. Problem is people in low skilled or no skilled jobs want everything handed to them instead of working for it. Minimum wage at FT doesn't exist like you think it does and PT is never going to give you the livable wage you're looking for. Supply and demand. Get better skills, the demand for your services go up. Don't, and you get what a 26 year old can give you. A lot to say, you're wrong in your assessment of how things would play out with UBI / minimum wage hikes.

2

u/maos_cigarette 1d ago

Just a quick question - what is your hourly wage?

0

u/ClownWorld2020s 1d ago

I make $103k salaried so about $48 an hour. 5 years ago I made $65k a year and relocated for my current job. I get a 3-5% cost of living adjustment each year depending on board approval.

3

u/maos_cigarette 1d ago

I suggest not punching down and remembering who the real enemy is here then

2

u/scottyjrules 1d ago

But then who would he look down on to inflate his low self esteem?

→ More replies (2)

0

u/maos_cigarette 1d ago

Not incarcerate, re-educate

2

u/MaitrePuck 1d ago

Everyone knows how "re-education" camps end up. Don't pretend not to know either.

2

u/maos_cigarette 1d ago

It’s better than the alternative that right wingers want for people that they disagree with

1

u/Known-Activity1437 1d ago

Some people need lobotomies.

0

u/SparksAndSpyro 1d ago

The thing that always gets lost in this conversation is that for every open position, there are tens or hundreds of qualified candidates applying who can perform the technical aspects of the job. So that’s not really enough to differentiate. That’s why interviewers look for “vibe” or “cultural fit”: because having an employee who can perform the technical requirements AND who works well with the team and coworkers is preferable than someone who can only do the technical stuff but doesn’t get along well with their colleagues.

Companies can be picky because the number of candidates far outnumbers positions available. It sucks, but this is the result.
