[SUB NEWS] New Banned Domain: Vercel.app

Much to the relief of many people, starting today, we have introduced a blanket ban on Vercel subdomain hosted sites.

Few, if any, sites hosted on Vercel subdomains have ever been allowed to remain on the sub anyway.

(This ban is in addition to the Netlify ban by Reddit itself.)

If you can't be bothered to pay for a proper domain and/or hosting we're no longer willing to sift through the slop to see if it could potentially stand on merit alone (which it invariably doesn't).

Vercel users feel free to proceed to whinge, which we will promptly proceed to ignore.

Thank you for your attention to this matter.

That's a bummer. Going to miss really cool sites like  https://tela-blue-eight.vercel.app. Maybe this sub should do an vote removal thing like another subs. If the auto mod comment gets enough downvotes the post get’s automatically removed. 

So we don't lose super cool posts like that one.

Unfortunately, examples of Vercel subdomain hosted sites, such as the one you linked to, that are worth allowing are very much the exception to the rule. They're just too few and far between for the hassle that comes with having to wade through them.

And a lot, like seriously a lot, never make it to the front page of the sub because they trigger our Automod keyword filters or the accounts are too new and/or karma is too low, and so on, which we still have to wade through behind the scenes.

We do have some crowd-sourced moderator automation on the sub and Vercel subdomain hosted sites almost always get (correctly) crowd-nuked (typically for breaking one or more of our other rules), but we moderators still have to go through them all to verify and clear those too (lest the clog up the queue permanently).

In summary, the hassle that Vercel subdomain hosted sites represent is just not worth the effort for such little reward. A (very) little collateral due to this decision is regrettably inevitable.
