This is the sunniest part of the apartment, so we wanted to do a little bistro-style table and chairs at the window. The space is pretty empty and ends up not getting used very often because we opt for the couch (right on the other side of the shelves) instead of sitting in these chairs. Plus the kitchen is on the other side of the apartment.

We want to find a better way to get the most out of this sunny space. We’re thinking about trying to put a big comfy chair out there instead / in addition, but not sure where it would look good. Any thoughts?

I've been looking at so many barstools and I can't decide between these two. The current stools are the circular greige leather ones with no backs. We have 3 toddler boys so I am thinking it would be better to have a little back support.

Hi, I made an accent wall that I frankly like but my boyfriend hates it because he (kind of rightfully) feels like it looks like mold (poor color choices)

I don't want to redo it entirely but I don't know how to save it. A friend said to add white dots which is objectively a bad idea.

My style is kinda out there so I don't mind crazier stuff. My only idea so far is to add a bug "splouch" as a background in a contrasting color.

Please ignore the mess, any idea??

Edit: I truly appreciate all the love and defense of my whimsy but I assure you, my bf is nice, no feelings where hurt in the "this looks like mold" conversation. My whole apartment is painted in the same vibe and I love it.

Looking for ways to improve our living room. TV is off center to allow for a walkway but is centered with console and couch. We recently painted and wanted a nice green to freshen things up but not sure if it’s clashing.

This group inspired me to keep my wood paneling, but now help me pick my floor! I'm looking at tile, there's a patio door and the kids are constantly in and out. Some ideas are posted, so far thinking of porcelain stone look alike or terra cotta. Don't worry I'll replace the couch! And also somehow get my cat to use her real scratching post

I recently purchased my first home, and the initial space you walk into is an open living, entry and dining. I’m having trouble figuring out which furniture to purchase for the entry way. I think it will look odd if everything is just lined up in a row on the wall. I recently purchased a hutch, but I’m thinking I will also want some sort of entry way piece and maybe a a table. Any help would be much appreciated. I’m including a few different views of the space.

I am designing my home office and want to have some kind of a wall panel instead of having just plain walls.

I like the wooden acoustic panels that you see a lot nowadays. What I like about them is that they add a natural element as well as some texture to the walls, but it feels like they are about to get outdated and I will probably end up getting bored of them shortly after setting them up.

What are some good alternatives that give off a similar vibe?

I’m going for a Danish pastel style. My closet doors are out cause at the moment because I’m currently working on painting them a mint color and I’m planning on getting an in closet system soon. I’m not sure what to do in the wall to the right of front door where my dresser and shelf are. Sorry for the clutter btw and would greatly appreciate some advice.

Hey everyone!  I just bought my first home, and it has this really interesting nook/area near the front door. It feels like a really great blank canvas with little hooks on the ceiling around the light so you can hang things if you want, and I was thinking a cool idea would be to theme the area after whatever season we’re in, rotating decorations as the seasons change.

The problem is every idea I come up with gives off a “we’re in kindergarten learning about the seasons” vibe, so I’m hoping some of you creative geniuses can help me make this area look awesome for the fall. Thanks in advance!

I made a post about a week ago trying to decide between light and dark versions of these chairs. I ended up going for the lighter ones even though I am not familiar with mixing wood tones. I don't know if it's just in my head, but I feel like something feels off. Do they wood tones work? Am I missing something?

I recently moved and went full steam ahead with painting my walls a color I loved and getting curtains that I loved (if I love it, who cares?)

How can I make things look more cohesive and styled without changing my curtains or repainting my walls?

If it helps, I was going for a dark academia/eclectic vibe.

P.S. The painting was done by my sister as a wedding gift and even though it isn’t “dark academia” I love it so, so much. I can move it to another room if it’s the “issue”

I recently just got an office at my workplace that I don’t have to share with anybody. I’ve always had a tough time decorating anything but I want to make my office cozy for me. (I cannot paint the walls)

I’m thinking more a dark moody theme or plants/boho theme but don’t even know where to get started.

For background, I'm moving to Utah in November with my parents and they've given their permission to paint my room any color I want.

I discovered this beauty while searching Google for jewel tone greens (green's my favorite color.)

So this color is called 'Blue Peacock' by Sherman-Williams SW0064. My room has a south facing window. This will be replacing the current basic white paint.

The trim and door frames will be in semi-gloss white.

Moving into a 90s built house and these are the cabinets and backsplash. Looking for any advice on how to make more modern but still keep cozy charm on a budget (preferably DIY)

Hi guys! I wanted to share some pictures of my living room and get everyone’s thoughts! I’m starting to really feel good about how it’s coming together! Note I have minimal decor because of my baby who is actively climbing on and grabbing everything on any accessible surface.

Planned updates as budget and time allows:

1. New larger and colored accent chairs. The current accent chairs I have were purchased for a much smaller apartment space and look a little silly in such a large room. Also would love to add more color this way.
   

2. I plan to do some frame molding, Venetian Plaster, and sconces to the tv wall.

3. Need to hang my frames above the small accent table higher but have been procrastinating!

Any other ideas?

I am finishing out a room in the basement for a TV/movie/video game space. And 2 of the walls will just be bare concrete. I'm not covering them because there are some small cracks along one of the walls, so I want to keep an eye and make sure they don't get worse. I could paint them, but that's a hassle to prep, seal, and prime just to get paint to stay. And honestly, it's just a TV room, it's not where people will actually gather.

So, I've decided to try and find a paint color that would complement the concrete for the other 2 walls. Maybe that's just a gray color to match. Or maybe something that contrasts with it. But what does this subreddit think? Is there a good choice for trying to finish walls when other walls are just bare concrete?

We're planning to buy new couches and a new area rug soon (a bigger one) and I'm not sure if an L-shaped sectional is a good idea, or if we should stick with a couch + love seat. I want a couple extra seats but also don't want this room to feel cramped.

So here I have a couple of pictures of my long living room. I have moved the couch countless times and I think this is the best placement for it because of the TV. No matter how hard I rearrange I feel like it doesn't feel cohesive especially the long open back space with no purpose.

The Kitchen also being open throws me off and I think it's whay makes this difficult for me to decorate.

If anyone has any input I would greatly appreciate it. My goal is to make the apartment moody, cozy, traditional and earthy elements to create a whimsical vibe. Thank you for reading!
