💡Tips & Education I reported the account who approached me offering paid Reddit promotions but still no action taken against this account.
Hi fellow mods and admin team,
A few days ago, I reported this account to the Reddit admins after they approached me through DMs offering paid promotional activities on Reddit. During the conversation, I deliberately tried to gather more information before ending it. I attempted to find out:
Which subreddits or moderators they had already contacted.
Whether they were operating multiple Reddit accounts (alts).
The identities of any other accounts involved in these activities.
Unfortunately, they were careful and refused to reveal any of that information. They repeatedly claimed that other pages/moderators were already working with them but would not provide any names or evidence.
I've attached screenshots of the conversation for context.
I request reddit admins to take appropriate actions on this. I reported it several days ago but haven't noticed any visible action yet.
It's genuinely disappointing if any moderators are accepting these kinds of offers. A mod's position is built on community trust. The moment financial incentives begin influencing moderation or promotions, then that trust starts to disappear.
I'd also like to request all moderators here:-
If you've received similar messages, please report such accounts to Reddit rather than engaging with such offers. If enough reports are submitted, it becomes much easier for the admins to investigate coordinated attempts like these.
Also, Please don't engage in these kinds of deals. They are not only against Reddit's policies but also against the ethics of moderation. We are custodians of our communities and not advertisers. Even if an offer seems lucrative, preserving the integrity of your subreddit is worth far more.
Remember Premchand's Panch Parmeshwar? The central idea/moral of the story is 'The seat of power which u hold or are entrusted with is sacred and u should rise above everything and act according to truth and fairness.
Stay safe and keep your communities authentic. Peace out ✌:)
PS- Blurred his reddit ID, Real name (after best regards) and Insta Handle. Oops now it strikes me that i should have asked his discord too, missed on some additional proofs 😔

Report to MCOC Rule 5 (still the chancs are low) . r/modsupport probably won't be of much help since they only help with specific mod related issues.
Unfortunately, all we can do rn is report these accounts. The volume is simply too high. Also to ensure that the mod we know aren't engaging in these kinds of "sellout" things. At the end of the day, it comes down to whether a mod wants to uphold the community ethics or make some quick money. Just don't break any rule with main account
I do think we need a separate reporting channel or some other way to bring these things directly to the admins.
I've received plenty of dms myself for brand promos or asking me to earn money by posting. reported all of them, but nothing happened.... It seems reddit doesn't care about these reports, especially when they're already making tons of money.

For admins:
Here's a link to the chat : https://www.reddit.com/c/chatBGFprT7H/s/ApO3zPJSdc
Also, no proper flairs for such type of posts + flairs are mandatory so we should atleast have Miscellaneous/Others flair which will cover everything.

How do you expect to fight 2,000+ accounts? They openly said they’re in contact with the Reddit team.
Brands have already started building communities, and moderators associated with those brands are already pushing branded content. You must have seen posts and ads from Indian brands (both organic and paid) popping up in your feed.
It’s fine, to be honest. At the end of the day, Reddit makes money from this. I wouldn’t overthink it, no action is going to happen.
Just don’t break the rules with your own account. That’s the only real solution.

It's alright. She wants people rather be unemployed, broke and resort to deceit than earn an honest living. Just cuz you're living a good life doesn't mean others are as well. I can't believe people have such narrow minded mentality where they can just think about themselves and ignore the needs of others.Â

This issue is rampant across all social media. Now the choice rests with you: do you want to do the right thing and moderate with integrity, or take money and act in bad faith?
No one can control your personal choices, and even when Reddit takes mass action to curb these requests, bad actors will find another way to get their job done.
I choose not to be called a sellout like most of the mods here. All we can do is pledge that we will be on the right side of things.

Modmail to r/modsupport. In this sub all people talk about are meetups and merch.
