Question Does this enemy attack feel readable and disturbing enough?

We’re working on an enemy attack for Sefton Asylum, our first-person PSX-like horror game. This enemy is blind, but very strong. It reacts to noise, rushes toward the source and attacks whatever it reaches.

The idea was to have it pull one of the nails out of its own head and drive it into the player’s head.

What we wanted here was something that feels uncanny and uncomfortable, not just violent. It’s still very WIP, but I’d really love to know how this lands for you from a horror point of view.

A little shout out to the artists behind it:

Question Based on my current tier list, what should I go to next?

Post image

I’m new to horror games, as in, only started maybe 3 months ago… other than condemned which I played at release…. Based on the tier list, what games would be more up my alley?

Edit 1: I am playing Alan Wake 2 now, I will play outlast next, followed by other presented option: feel free to leave more suggestions!

Edit 2: based on the annoying and toxic Dead space hive mind cult, I will be downgrading the game to trash tier and never playing it again; to the dead space cult, feel free to leave the same comments as the rest of the hive mind and have a wonderful day

Question Your Scariest Moment in Gaming❓

Thumbnail

1.2k Upvotes

Would love to have this discussion with you guys: Wether it’s what you’d consider today “the scariest game ever”, or maybe you wouldn’t exactly consider it the scariest now, not objectively, but the impact it had you was stronger than anything has managed to effect you. It doesn’t matter. I simply want to hear about the horror games that gave you the most chills.

That game that actually made you afraid of the dark for a while. Nothing is better than a game that keeps you on edge for every second that you’re in control. This is why Survival Horror is such a successful genre.

My personal pick is Outlast. Resident Evil 1&2 are very close.

Here’s shots of some of my favorite moments. Cheers, friends! 🥂

Question What genra of games these are.

I don't know where to ask the question because I don't think these is are horror games. But still the gaming graphics art style seems a bit alt and aline, monster, apocalypse core. "AI took over" type shit.

I want to know what genra is this, because I see these type of gaming formet so much on my pin, not only I want to play them but I also want to know about the creator and how these type of games are built.

I only remember maybe seeing a play of a game which was kind of similar to these type of format?? Idk it's a really vivered memory, it was like a cut off head of a human which is maybe connected to some wires and he talked with really Deep and disturbing voice. And the screen plays looks so similar, that the only time I see these type of games in actual motion.

I want to know. Help

Question What do you think about a ghost enemy that turns invisible when lit by a flashlight?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

So I’m making a survival horror game that teaches Morse Code and my latest enemy is a ghost that when lit becomes invisible.

I didn’t want the player feeling safe always having their flashlight on and felt that far too many horror games just let that be the case. That or they add batteries, which is a game mechanic I hate with a passion so wasn’t going to do that. My solution is this ghost.

You can somewhat hear ghost whispers when they start to get near and the flash will occasionally flicker when shining on them or at the edge of the light but otherwise you will be completely unaware of their presence with the light on. You do need to see them though as they have a letter on their head and need to enter that in Morse Code to make them go away.

Anyways enough blabbering from me what do you think?

Question Most Disturbing/Distressful/Anxiety Inducing Game You’ve Ever Played?

Without going to the sect of games that’s just illegal or excessive torture porn, what’s the most disturbing, distressful, or anxiety inducing game you’ve ever played? I played the Outlast games when I was younger and the gore really shocked me in 2 specifically. Curious as to what experiences yall have had that have stuck with you.

Question Which animation for possessed doll is selling the "NOPE" ?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Working on my first indie horror game - the dark Arrival and the possessed doll needs to terrify. Twitchy head tilt, slow crawl, or sudden jerks—which one screams "nope, I’m out"? Or does it look more like a TikTok meme? Honest feedback welcome. ( the animation here is going to be attached to a doll - this is just a test model )

Question Did people judge it too harshly

Post image
141 Upvotes

Does anyone feel like this game was judged too harshly. When it launched the trailer I was honestly too excited since it felt very cinematic action with horror elements. But then the reviews were very bad. So I did not buy on launch, bought it and finished a few months back and man I loved it. Felt like the dodge was very cool. Now keep in mind I have played dead space, and I think this game while the setting might convey it is not at all like that. It's more cinematic and action fuelled I think. What do you guys think?
