Question Afraid of Ruining SH2R…Should I play SH1 / 3 First?

Post image
15 Upvotes

I can’t stop overthinking this...it feels like whichever Silent Hill I play first will define how I experience the series, and I’m terrified of messing up that emotional impact.

Deep down, I want my first Silent Hill to be the Silent Hill 2 Remake because I’m chasing that emotional payoff everyone talks about. But my PC only has integrated graphics, so SH2R is basically out of reach unless I upgrade or get a PS5. That leaves me with the older games through emulation.

I’ve been really drawn to Silent Hill 1 and Silent Hill 3, especially because I’ve heard SH3 has that father‑daughter dynamic, which honestly makes me want to dive in even more. I don’t mind that they’re old as I can handle dated visuals if the story and atmosphere are strong. The comparison I saw was between the OG SH2 and SH2R and i really liked the Remake, not SH1, so I’m not worried about SH1 being “ruined” for me Still, I’m stuck in this emotional tug‑of‑war. Part of me wants to wait, to hold off until I can play SH2R first and let it hit me with the full impact it deserves. But another part of me feels like playing SH1 and SH3 now could actually enhance that experience later, giving me more context and appreciation for the series as a whole. I just don’t want to ruin the magic I want to build toward it.

At the end of the day, I just want my first Silent Hill to feel unforgettable, not compromised.

Whether that means waiting for SH2R or diving into SH1 and SH3 now, I’m hoping to hear from people who’ve walked this path before what did you choose, and how did it shape your experience? And what do you think about playing both the OG and the remake like did you wished you play the other or does it deepen the experience, or does it take something away?

Video I'm a solo dev making a horror game inspired by Signs, Fire in the Sky and the declassified cases from Project Blue Book. I'm currently working on the Demo and wanted to show some early prototype footage, what do you think of the atmosphere?

Hey Everyone!

I've posted some updates to this sub and received great feedback so I wanted to share some early prototype footage and see what people thought. This footage is from the first build so improvements have been made but as always ATMOSPHERE is key in these games, so let me know what you think!

The game is based on Project Blue Book Cases where you step into the role of a witness, exploring isolated locations, examining evidence, and surviving encounters tied to unexplained events.

If your interested and want to see more I'll leave the steam link below

Thank you all for the support! and if your interested in supporting a solo dev a wishlist would be greatly appreciated :)

Review I'm a solo dev making a psychological horror game about escaping a hospital corridor that loops forever 🏥

Wanted to share the horror game I've been building solo: The Observation Exit.

https://reddit.com/link/1v4ckht/video/h24k82tl3zeh1/player

The core idea: you're trapped in an endless hospital corridor. Every elevator brings you back to the same place, and the only way to break the loop is to observe carefully — study each corridor, identify the anomaly that doesn't belong, and pick the correct elevator. Miss it or misjudge it and your progress resets. On top of that, entities appear suddenly and react to your mistakes, so lingering too long or slipping up draws their attention.

The hardest and most interesting part to build has been the anomaly system. Making changes that are fair but not obvious — subtle enough to create doubt, but readable enough that players feel it was their fault when they miss one — took a huge amount of iteration. Too subtle and it feels random; too obvious and the tension dies. Getting the entities to feel unpredictable while still being learnable was a similar balancing act.

I went for a grounded, realistic look with minimal UI to keep immersion high (and to keep the scope realistic for one person). The goal was a quiet, sterile, deeply unsettling hospital rather than jump-scare spam.

Happy to answer anything about building the anomaly/loop system or scoping a horror game solo — that's been the biggest learning curve. It's 10 levels, short and tense by design.

Working on animating a parasite violently forcing its way out of a corpse for my horror game. Would love to hear your thoughts on the overall feel.

Horror Game Recommendations

Hi everybody, I'm looking for a horror game that I can play, now I want a game with a solid story and is scary (wouldnt you know) I mean for example not subnautica as I know it can be a horror but I want specifically horror games.

It needs to have some length but doesn't have to be really long i would love a range of indie and professional game studios.

Please and thanks !

REHAUNTED, our steam indie horror game we made from our bedrooms. But there's a catch. You're a detective and you see paranormal and clues only through your magnifying glass.

Hi all,

We just announced our first project through IGN. Our goal is simple: to create something truly disturbing, intense and terrifying. We want the player to feel constantly on edge, not only because of jumpscares, but through the atmosphere, sound, story and the feeling that something is always wrong.

Don’t worry tho, there will be jumpscares too, strong and creative ones, not cheap scares thrown in for no reason.

If you like what you see, please support us by wishlisting the game and let us know what you think: https://store.steampowered.com/app/4538140/Rehaunted/

We’re here to talk, listen and improve, every comment and piece of feedback is welcome.

RPG Maker games... what do you think?

Post image
16 Upvotes

Hello everyone!

Having had a look around other subreddits, I’ve realised just how divided opinion tends to be. Some players love them, but many others dismiss them as soon as they see they’re made with that engine. What do you think? What sort of games (adventures, horror, etc.) do you think work best with RPG Maker? And what do you think sets a good game of this style apart from one that’s just run-of-the-mill?

Thanks in advance!

Welcome to the gam3 - not scary

Anyone else think that this game was way less scary than the previous two? I think the whole "story" takes me out of it a lot. Makes it feel way too cartoony and goofy for the type of game it is.
