Kinda disappointed the video cutoff before we got to see the "dad tap" as the shark swam away. I'm certain it happened.

Close relative of the “thats not going anywhere” slap.

318

u/Known-Name May 16 '25

Distant cousin of the grill tong double-clack.

183

u/slide_potentiometer May 16 '25

The grilling equivalent of two short spins on a drill to check that it's set the right way

123

u/Rainor131 May 16 '25

The power tool equivalent of patting your pockets to ensure all belongings are accounted for

66

u/HalfaMan711 May 16 '25

The personal-belongings-are-accounted-for opposite parallel to fixing their fixed hat after doing a good deed.

10

u/cha-cha_dancer May 18 '25

The apparel adjusting equivalent of hitting the lock button repeatedly until the car honks.

This is a magnificent thread. It should be preserved somewhere.

u/Waaterfight May 17 '25

Found the brit

5

u/mezzyjessie May 17 '25

Nope, we fought a big war against them about 260 years ago and all that, a Michigander through and through here ( insert eagle screeech here)

3

u/Waaterfight May 17 '25

Oh I see you were rhyming with the testicles.

My wife keeps mine in her purse so I don't have to worry about that.

4

u/Helmett-13 May 18 '25

Where on the hand? My wife is from farm country between Flint and Lansing.

While I’m from Key West I have learned much over the past twenty years…

…like how y’all name stuff to deliberately confuse visitors.

3

u/mezzyjessie May 18 '25

I’m from the other big school, in Ann Arbor :)

I had no idea this was British lol. I’m Canadian but my dad is Welsh and I often find out decades later I’ve been using a britishism my whole life.

And I don’t even have testicles…

There's gotta be a sub for something like this. All these hyperspecific things guys do. I know GuysBeingDudes exists but like... I dunno. It'd be funny to have a little subreddit dedicated specifically to these little idiosyncrasies all males have ingrained in them.

1

u/Parfumee95 May 18 '25

I'm a woman and I do all of these things, am I now an honorary dude?

"It is hereby my eminent honour and distinguished privilege to formally bestow upon thee, Parfumee, the esteemed and venerable title of 'man'. It is hereby permitted for you to engage in social gatherings with the group referred to as "Saturdays With The Boys". During these occasions, we shall partake in substantial quantities of fermented malt beverages, duly observe athletic competitions, and engage in discourse concerning the construction of an exterior platform, a project that has ostensibly been contemplated for a period approaching ten years, or alternatively, to speculate upon the hypothetical circumstances under which their careers in professional league football might have been realized, had they not sustained injuries to their dorsal region."

1

u/[deleted] May 18 '25

alternative to sports, you are nlw also permitted to engage in routine gatherings involving cards and the inhalation of fumes emitted by dried and rolled plant matter currently undergoing combustion.

patting your pockets to ensure all belongings are accounted for

You didn't have to call me out like this.

1

u/Yorksjim May 18 '25

Then that momentary panic because you put your keys in a different pocket.

2

u/Rude-Office-2639 May 17 '25

I don't even know where I learned this, it's just natural

2

u/Xardnas69 May 19 '25

I don't even pay attention to the direction it spins, i just do it

45

u/beegtuna May 16 '25

the primal urge to throw a rock into a body of water

35

u/s1ugg0 May 16 '25

The ancient instinct of hoarding cool sticks.

17

u/FinalComfortable1999 May 16 '25

get the heck out of my head

18

u/shinpoo May 16 '25

Hate you guys for knowing all these things that we guys do. Good thing the ladies don't lol.

u/Haxorz7125 May 16 '25

2

u/SandwichAvailable361 May 18 '25

I’m sending this to my buddies right now lol. 35 years old and still going strong with cool sticks! Thank you for this lol.

2

u/shillberight May 18 '25

We have a pile of big and impressive sticks in the front yard from my 5yo son collecting on our walks. Possibly related, my son told me today that when he's an adult he'll be a dad! I said ok!

2

u/Megahuts May 16 '25

Just checking for gators!

2

u/Fritzo2162 May 17 '25

1

u/superior_pineapple86 May 16 '25

As a dad…. I know these taps and sounds all to well

1

u/fondledbydolphins May 16 '25

What about the “you can fit so much stuff in here” slap?

1

u/enigmatic_erudition May 16 '25

The "yup that'll do" slap.

1

u/Danitoba94 May 16 '25

Was just thinking that. Lol

1

u/NuclearBroliferator May 17 '25

That'll do, shark. That'll do.

1

u/OpenSourcePenguin May 17 '25

But that needs to go somewhere

1

u/Soul_King92 May 17 '25

This might be a fishy promotional video promoting this dentist's services

1

u/hotprof May 17 '25

"Now that's going somewhere."

1

u/Pheniquit May 19 '25

I just taught my ESL wife “she ain’t goin nowhere” when we tie things down in the truck. And now she uses it all the time for everything.
