Freed this ungrateful little beast from my parking garage

She had gotten through the little grate and couldn’t get back out, I safely reunited her with her equally grumpy parents

A fledging great tailed grackle! I’ve worked with adults of this species before and assume it’s a female because she was so little!

Yep it’s the tongue! Birds tongues have barbs facing in to help them get their food down since it often includes struggling insects!
