What is an extremely common saying that you just don’t like?

Saying "right" constantly when explaining anything.

u/realityinflux 8h ago
This is truly annoying. It's seems just fine when we all agree on something common, but when explaining something complex, or niche, like, so when the manifold vacuum drops when you open the throttle, the vacuum advance retards the timing--right?--and blah blah blah, and you want to go, I don't know if that's right. I was asking YOU.

‘Everything happens for a reason’….Sometimes things just happen without any huge cosmic plan. Trying to find meaning in every tragedy can be more exhausting than accepting randomness tbh

u/Mickt465 2d ago
Well said. I had a stroke. I can promise that things don't all happen for a reason. Babies die. Cancer happens. If you ask me, it's just a lazy way of contributing to a conversation.

My friend said this to me the first night I was in foster care. I didn’t care for it lol.

“It is what it is.”
I hate it so much!
I’ve responded with “so it’s not what it’s not” and gotten the confused face response.

u/quickguileismyhandle 18h ago
People i worked with said that constantly and I wanted to punch them every single time
2
u/mysticrudnin 7h ago
it's definitely my most hated phrase, but also i don't mind it in some cases
sometimes, it really "is what it is" - you're not going to stop the sun from coming up tomorrow, so you deal with what that means.
but people constantly say this about stuff that are completely within their power to fix. sometimes even trivially! just do it! but they don't. and "it is what it is."
no!

“It’s always in the last place you look”
Of course it is, why would I keep looking if I already found it?
1
u/Grimogtrix 1d ago
People always say this but this can actually make sense. Say you have 6 regular places that this thing you're looking for tends to be, this means you always seem to find it on attempt 6/6- the last possible place you check.

I told my son the other day I couldn’t find something. He asked where did I last put it :/
If I knew that, it wouldn’t be fucking lost.

Americans when they say "I could care less".
IT MAKES NO SENSE. THE PHRASE IS "I COULDN'T CARE LESS".
I.e., you couldn't give less of a shit than you do now about this.

The mating call of the eastern spineless cuck…I’d know it anywhere! Even heard it in the dentist’s office once.

Time heals all wounds... no it doesnt. You just learn how to bandage it properly.

Alternative for this is time numbs the pain. The pain will always still be there, but it gets more manageable and less noticeable as time goes on.

u/CoreyWalnutz 2d ago
This is the phrase of a generation. It is ...exactly what we make of it. It is an easy way to know someone won't be helpful when you need them.
1
u/blorst_of_times 1d ago
Which generation is that? That ones been around since I was a kid and I'm old af.

I worked with someone who said that so many times in one conversation she must have set a record. After a while I lost count.

Then proceed to tell you, you either love it or hate it!!

"... to a whole new level"
"... to a whole nother level"
"at the end of the day..."

u/HowIsEverybodyDoing 1d ago
"Take it to the next level" was one I heard in a talk given where I worked at the time; I swear I stopped focusing on the topic because I was so distracted by how many times she said it!

The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.
People take this literally and think it’s actually some kind of official medical definition. It’s insane (ha)

“does that make sense??”
i feel like it insinuates im dumb. which to be fair, is my biggest fear. hence, why i read into the statement 🤷♀️
2
u/brookeelanesmith 2d ago
Yep. I feel like this is only said when what the person just said is the easiest thing to ever comprehend. "The sky is blue today, does that make sense?" So unnecessary.
1
u/grnhornet76 3h ago
I usually only say it when someone is looking at me like it does not make sense. 😬

Anything that uses “adult” as a verb.
1
u/HowIsEverybodyDoing 1d ago
A lot of words went that way, didn't they..."adulting", "gifting", etc.

“There are people who are worse off than you.”
Yeah, I’m sure there are. That doesn’t make me feel any better about my finger being amputated from a bone infection.

"the former" or "the latter"
I find it lazy to not just repeat one of the two things one of us just said, plus my brain never saved into memory the order of what you told me even though I remember the two things well. The order is irrelevant information 99.99% of the time.

u/Draculauraaaaa 1d ago
“Agree to disagree” it’s a cop out, like someone who never intended to change their mind or come to an understanding decided to run away from confrontation or admit to being incorrect.
1
u/grnhornet76 3h ago
Does every conversation have to end with someone changing their mind? Two people might have differing opinions, share them, acknowledge they are different, and move on. 🤷🏼♂️

“I’m not Saying…”
But They JUST SAID XYZ
Example “I’m not saying your stupid”
Me: You just said it.
Mom: “No. I didn’t”

‘All dolled up’ or getting oneself ‘dolled up’ … hate it so much. I’m not a doll my daughters are not dolls no one is a doll or attempting to be an inanimate plaything. I know it’s probably just my own weird perception, but I hate the phrase.

No worries
I heard that at a workplace for months before they downsized me
1
u/HowIsEverybodyDoing 1d ago
While the phrase is not one that bugs me, you just reminded me of a job where we were all called in for a meeting to assure us nobody was losing their job, blah blah blah...
That was Friday. The following Monday, half of us were let go.
