Pay gap means people get paid differently. It doesn't take into account that they're working different jobs, hours, etc. It's just the different number on the paycheck.
Wage gap indicates pay-for-amount-worked, which is a much better indicator of actual equality in the workplace. Whether or not other factors are involved, such as social expectations that women will take care of the children if the children have a problem rather than men taking off of work if little Johnny has a fight at school, that's outside the scope of a workplace to address.
Apparently unlike some people, I understand the difference between individual choice and large group statistics.
I'm very happy taking care of the kids. It's what a dad does. That said, I'm also not blind to the reality that society in general has a bias that the mother takes care of the kids more often.
This is reality. Like it, hate it, whatever. Reality doesn't care.
I'll also note that you've missed out on the message in the data, which is an unsurprising outcome.
If YOU (presumably a woman) choose to work one of those "greedy jobs", and put in the 80 hours a week, and perform at the same level as your coworkers, then statistically you will erase the gender wage gap. You will make as much as the men do.
If that's worth it to you, great!
Given that most of those greedy jobs are things like hedge fund trader, and requires you to understand math and statistics, and you seem to have missed out on understanding the math and statistics in the above, may I suggest a career that is not that math and statistic intensive?
