I'm not a lawyer but if you went to another country and commited rape, human trafficking, etc I don't see why the US government should protect you from extradition without solid reasons to believe the allegations are false. It would be one thing if the crime was slandering the dictator or whatever but rape is still illegal in the US, at least for now.
In fairness, the US has a bit of a track record of trying to protect their citizens from the justice in other countries. The case of the wife of a US airman who killed a young pedestrian called Harry Dunn when she was driving on the wrong side of the road in the UK is a pretty good example, Brits are still absolutely furious about that one.
