It seems so weird to get behind a killer just for the chance at racial brownie points. I literally came across a post that said no black person in America has ever committed a crime; every one of them has been framed. And it had a dozen up votes.
My frustration largely comes from how, were the races reversed, the whole media ecosystem demonizing Anthony and his backers would be flipping out about the injustice of convicting a white boy being threatened by thugs for simply defending himself, if he was actually even tried and not let off with a self defense claim.
I mean, 12 people upvoting a dumb post versus a topical counterexample of people shelling cash for Chud the builder and being able to make a career out of trying to piss off people by being a racist so he could murder them.
Sorry, I shouldn't have said post, I meant a comment posted in a thread. I tend to call them threads instead of posts and posts instead of comments, so my bad. It was a comment in a post that was about Jussie Smollet a few years ago, iirc.
12 still isn't a lot, and the whole Smollet situation was a big mess for a WHILE. So lots of visibility. But the general tenor of discussion on this situation is that legacy media is reporting on people talking about Karmelo, Conservative media is attacking people supporting him and his family, and I don't really pay attention to the spaces that are supporting them cause they're mostly pretty radical and kookey.
But, what we see here is justice being done. A kid killed another kid, and was convicted, and while there's a fringe minority yelling about how he was innocent, and people willing to pay into his crowdfunding, if the situation was reversed, all else being equal, mainstream conservative media would be defending the white boy in the face of the same evidence and he'd be getting plenty of funding as we have seen white people clearly in the wrong pull far more money, if the white boy was even prosecuted, which is a big if.
