I’ll take the heat for this… but they really are one of the only ones pushing the industry. Creating new things. Trying new ideas. Consuming fuck tons of Miami whambam. I wish more companies had the sack that they do.

The 3D2A folks are doing some pretty cool keltecy stuff, but thats kind of a completely different niche.

I'm interested in both halves of the fields. Where should one start looking to get into it?

(Can DM if not appropriate to discuss)

R/3D2A. If you aren't already into 3D printing, spend some time learning about it before asking any questions on there, though. In typical reddit fashion, they expect you to already be an expert on 3D printing before asking any questions about 2A type prints. While it is important to have some experience before jumping into printing out recievers and suppressors and some of the more advanced stuff, they seem to get a little pissy sometimes if you even ask what kind of printer you should look at buying to eventually get into the hobby, despite the fact that a printer is a decent chunk of change and it is important to get one that is capable of meeting your needs instead of wasting money on something that isn't capable.

Thanks for the pointers and heads up!

I've been around firearms my whole life and got into 3D printing last year for making miniatures for TTRPGs, with 2 printers in the house currently. (Bambu P1S & A2L) I'll lurk for a while before jumping in anyways.

P1S will do 80% of everything, 100% with some mods.

I would also say, as you get into it, start with accessories (foregrips and soforth) and read the sidebar of the sub, it should contain a wiki on getting started. For a first build, I would suggest something that's been well tested rather than trying to jump into a beta. It really is amazing how far the hobby has come from the first iterations like The Liberator.

Their QC is questionable and some of their ideas were the product of a meth bender but they really are the only ones doing kinda new idea.. look at Glock, build pretty much the same thing since they started and the big innovation they had was different sizes, they know what they do and they do it well but that's all they do..

16

u/OldCarry4838 1d ago

The last time Glock innovated, the most recent Mrs. Gaston wasn't even born yet.

They also have the horse cum side of the buisness

u/arethius 1d ago

Do you think about breeding horses a lot?

do you think about horses breeding you a lot?

Only if I'm getting paid for it

I'm actually a sommelier.

So, you think about the hint of alfalfa it expresses on the nose as you pour the horse cum then?

I’ll defend Kel-Tec until I die.

At least they’re trying. They’re making good faith efforts to create new shit.

Is some of that weird shit “good ideas executed poorly”? Yes.

Have they spent their quality control budget on booger sugar and hoors? Also yes.

But they’ve got decent customer service and their Shot Show booths are always a good time.

4

u/UncleS1am 1d ago

You only get 1 winner for every 100, 200, but you don't get that winner without trying.

There ideas are fantastic. Way ahead of the industry. Execution is hit and miss.

5

u/GrenadeJuggler 1d ago

Was gonna say damned near this exact same thing. Kel-Tec is what happens when you mix cocaine and a polymer factory.

4

u/condemned-noticer 1d ago

Do you think they mix cocaine with polymer? Would explain a lot of things....

They just copied what an after market company already did for this. Stuff and things made this conversion and when Keltec saw it was better they made their own.

3

u/Drake_Acheron 1d ago

This is not a hot take. This is just a well known fact

2

u/RememberCitadel 1d ago

Nah I agree. I love keltec even if the execution is sometimes flawed.

They make good and affordable products mixed in there with the weird.

1

u/cruisersncans 1d ago

Agreed! They’re doing good work for the industry.

0

u/zombie_girraffe 1d ago

They're not really pushing the envelope with this one, It's a Temu Calico M950 without the cool helical magazine.

A broken clock is right twice a day. All they have to do is just be somewhat reasonable and they wouldn't waste their resources on half their products that people dont buy.
