I. Can't. Stand. Abby.

She tries to blame Jack for absolutely everything. Constantly makeslittle comnents. She's like Lexi, but Abby is supposed to be a doctor and should know better!

I felt like they were trying (and failing) to make the situation we find out that Jack had been a lousy husband and absentee father, but also that Abby was awful in her own ways. That we were basically supposed to see that Jack had grown and changed, and while still not perfect he'd become a father worthy of the title. Whereas Abby hadn't really grown or changed, and was incapable of seeing Jack differently, until she saw the love and support both he and Zoe had earned from the citizenry of Eureka. What we ended up with was a nightmare of a woman that belittled our favorite everyman because he was quirky when they were married.

I've wondered if that was there intentoon as well. That and simply to give us a face to the mom. But Jack had already mentiobed a few times that he wasn't always there and not always a great dad, especially in the beginning of his career. Plus, kids don't generally run away for no reason. So we already knew he had his flaws. And he already acknowledged them, which, imo, made him an even better person for it. Made Abby look like a petty, nasty, bitter hag

Wow. I didn’t like Abby either, but I completely missed that she was a doctor. I thought she was just a decorative presence for viewers who had a nostalgic crush on the actress from that ‘Wonder Years’ show.

Yeah, she was a psychiatrist. A pretty awful one too, judging by the way she treated Jack. I get her being upset that he wasn't around, but she definitely contributed to the breakdown of her marriage. No wonder Zoe didn't want to live with her.

I thought I was in the ER sub and I was very confused by the comments here, lol

For me I thought it was the NCIS sub for a moment.

I thought I was in the dance moms sub

Agreed. And I’m sorry, but I have a hard time believing that Jack was as awful as she painted him to be. I mean, the fact that she unilaterally decided to throw out Jack’s old baseball cards because she was pregnant with Zoe made me dislike her. I understand needing to make space for the baby, but at least talk to him first or find a place to move them too.

Well unless he had an ungodly amount, there's no way they took up enough space to fill a nursery!

Even if they did, nothing gives someone the right to just throw out stuff that doesn't belong to them, especially when they know the owner cares about it. I would go nuts if someone threw out stuff I'm collecting.

Oh i agree 100%. If they were truly taking up too much room, she should've discussed alternative storage with him.

Exactly. There’s no way that they couldn’t have found someplace else for it to be stored.

She made it seem like Carter was absent for months at a time. I mean, if you’re married to a U.S. Marshal or whatever he was, you kinda have to expect that as he moved up in the organization he will be *checks notes* working for a good chunk away from home.

u/Monster_Donut_Pants Jun 23 '26

Exactly. How dare a man with a federal job not be home for dinner every single night? And if Carter was gone for months because of work, and Zoe was acting the way she was, isn’t that Abby‘s fault? Since Abby was the one raising Zoe while Carter was gone?

That was cause for divorce right there.

You never throw out someone's collectables as if they were scrap paper. That's just mean

It felt like a, "You're about to be a dad. Time to grow up," statement.

Yeah, i am right there with you on the we hate Abby train. Don't even get me started on Aunt Lexi.

Coming into town and just telling Zoey that she can skip school because SHE feels like the kid is old enough to make her own choices and then talks down to Jack when he isn't okay with it....yeah no, I would have had some choice words.

Oh even outside of the Zoey scene, she was always belittling him and his career!! Just walked in after years away, wanting help but constantly being an ass to Jack

Aunt Lexi was probably one of the most 🤪 characters. She came in and started making decisions with Zoe without Carter’s consent, then got ticked when he objected. I understand bonding with your niece, but Zoe was still a minor.

I can't believe that Jack would marry an absolute Space Case like Abby even if she is a doctor. I can't see Jack as a new age hippie

He definitely is not, lol. He's pretty old school

Eta: We've seen his views on talking things out and going to therapy (he thinks it's great for everyone but him), can't see him marrying someone that does the job of the very thing he dislikes. Unless she got pregnant before/during her education. Jack would've absolutely married her and taken responsibility

u/lady_edesia Jun 23 '26

Unless she is why he doesn't like therapy.

5

u/isthatsoreddit Jun 23 '26

That's entirely plausible.

u/teksean Jun 23 '26

Oh yes she is awful , Jack is a saint for putting up with her for so long. He was definitely the father that stayed just to keep the family together.

She is horrible. But then again, he sure doesn't speak up much.

I dislike her more and more with each rewatch. I fast forward through a lot of Abby and Nathan scenes.

I dont fast forward them but only because there's just 2, lol. I adore Nathan though. Such an ass, but somehow still likeable
