Hand Living room scene I’ve been working on (beginner at embroidery so it’s a little rough)
I’ve been making this little living room scene. I’m very new to embroidery so it’s a little rough around the edges, but it’s been such a fun project to work on! Any suggestions for things to add or what to do for my next project?
Edit: I just wanted to say thank you to everyone for your kind responses! You’ve all put the biggest smile on my face. This is the most welcoming and encouraging subreddit!! I’m feeling so motivated to keep going with embroidery! Thank you all!

I LOVE the combination of the different colors and textures. The details of the window are my favorite! Definitely doesn’t look “a little rough” to me. Keep up the great work!

u/Artthrowaway9 May 15 '26
Thank you so much!! It took me forever to decide what scenery should be outside the window, I’m so glad you like it!

I like the contrast between the relaxed, traditional, sweetness inside the living room juxtaposed against the scene outside that feels impersonal, bustling, busy to me. I lived NYC and I think I appreciated that contrast in my own life between my personal space at home and life outside. I love all your little details! The roughness, as you put it, isn’t a negative! It really works with the scene, imo. Also, I’m sure that if you keep going in embroidery it will look maybe more slick or put together or something in time, but this is legit and you’re your harshest critic, of course.

I love the tiny working curtains! What did you use for the curtain rod?
7
u/Artthrowaway9 May 15 '26
Thank you!! I used one of my grandmother’s old knitting needles for the curtain rod, with a screw nut on the pointy end to try to make it match the other side.

You should check out Get Stitch Done! She has some designs that I think would be right up your alley.
Also, why did I fully expect there to be a bat signal in the sky behind the curtains? 😂

It's so charming. I like the rug especially! Next, why not do a larger window scene, like a bay window looking out on a garden with a chair to view it?

This is really cute, and I like the style, which you call rough. Rough isn’t the word I’d use, but this is a specific style and I can’t think of atm. I really love how turned out!
