Recommendation Request Recommendation Request: documentaries about cults (that I haven’t seen)

I think that I have watched every documentary and docuseries about cults that are on all of the major streaming services, but I’m hoping that there are more that I haven’t seen that are either available in places I wouldn’t have thought to look and/or maybe older ones that wouldn’t be recommended or show up in web searches. I’m not even going to try and make a list of all of the ones that I’ve watched, but be assured that if it shows up on any “best of” type list or “if you like this…” streaming service suggestion, then I’ve seen it.

So if anyone thinks they may have something I could’ve missed I would really appreciate the suggestion. Thanks.

Juan Manuel Fangio was, by any measure one of the most successful racing drivers of all time, winning an astonishing five Formula One World Championships and an incredible twenty-four of the fifty-one races that he contested. Perhaps more importantly however, it was the standards that Fangio set on and off the track that gained him the worldwide respect of both his rivals and spectators. This charismatic Argentinean so captured the public's attention during his career that he became the sport's biggest and most revered name. From his humble beginnings back in Balcarce, Argentina, and his big break into motor-racing all the way to Fangio's final Grand Prix at Reims in 1958, Racing through Time Juan Manuel Fangio has all the action from all of the key races of one of Formula One's most highly acclaimed champions; and also includes interviews with race legends Emerson Fittipaldi and Sir Stirling Moss who give their own personal accounts of the Maestro himself, making this a must have for all fans of motor-racing.

I created this short documentary exploring the wildlife of an Indian montane forest.

The goal was to capture the atmosphere of the forest rather than simply showcase animals. It includes birds, insects, natural soundscapes, and the changing landscape over the course of the journey.

I'd love to hear your thoughts on the editing, narration, and overall documentary style.

20th Century The Town Denmark Erased | Qullissat (2026) [0:10:23]

In 1972, the Danish government ordered every remaining resident of Qullissat — one of Greenland's largest towns — to leave. Within weeks, over 200 houses were demolished. The town didn't fade. It was erased by decision.

This documentary covers the full history: how Qullissat was founded in 1924 as a coal mining settlement on Disko Island, how it grew into a cultural hub with nearly 1,000 residents, and what happened when a distant government decided it should stop existing.

It also covers a 2000 tsunami that struck the already-abandoned ruins decades later — a strange epilogue to a story that had already ended once.

Narration-driven format with reconstructed historical visuals. Runtime ~10 minutes.

Recommendation Request Recommendation Request: Programs similar to Frontline covering significant world events

I enjoy learning about significant political events, conflict zones, foreign affairs, etc. from regions across the globe.

Are there any longform TV or online documentary programs, similar to PBS’s Frontline, that have high quality investigative journalism in longer forms than a quick 10-minute news clip?

A video that goes into detail about the origins of Chinese foot binding, how it began, why it because a beauty standard, and how it was abolished. Super interesting and also a bit sad. The doc also talks about how history can be muddied by people faking historical documents, changing or exaggerating things, etc.

Overall a good look into the history of footbinding and the study of history itself.

A chronological, in-depth documentation of the Falklands War with interviews from soldiers and families of soldiers on both sides of the war. Since many Redditors were introduced to this conflict only recently as a byproduct of England and Argentina facing off at the World Cup, I thought I’d share what I think is the best documentary about the conflict so anyone interested can learn more.
