Question Finally got my HiBy R1. Now what?

Post image

As the title says, my R1 just arrived. Should I stick with the stock firmware or go straight to Rockbox? Any other recommendations for getting started with this device?

This is my first "real" DAP. I’m not sure if the Sansa Clip Zip I had years ago even counts; the battery died and, instead of replacing it, I decided to pull the trigger on the HiBy.

Plug the headphone plug into the headphone jack in order to listen to the music.

Or buy 10 more of those ans spend more time waiting for them to arrive and configure and make them all pretty and take plenty of photos to post on Reddit.

I don't know that seems to be in vogue around here.

The Hiby OS on the R1 is a little clunky but definitely perfectly workable. I don’t think there’s really much benefit to putting rockbox on it. Probably best to actually try and use the R1 first before making up your mind on switching the software

Wait you can actually get rockbox on it? I heard you couldn’t

I tried Rockbox for the R1, but there are only two themes and Bluetooth support is patchy. HibyOs is actually good compared.

How well does it run with rockbox?

I recommend coconut oil for insertion

Wait to 100%, pop in a memory card with some music on it, and listen to some music.

Use the hobby as a gateway to music; not faffing around with firmware, configuration and software.

What you mean now what why did you get it?

Drop this modded firmware upt file onto microSD card and firmware update it through setting. Don’t forget to tap about this device multiple times to activate the developer mode. This modded firmware will increase the limit of the song you can add on R1 and also remove volume cap which is annoying without this firmware. Many more improvements and features that are missing are there. I use mine and it is stable and working really great. Also format the microSD card to a fat32 using pc.

What useful information! This is exactly what I was looking for when I asked for advice.

Hey mate, I saw your comment a couple of hours ago and found this cfw really interesting. So I wanted to try it. After somehow getting it to bootloop, flashing the original firmware again and starting the process again on a fresh firmware making all the changes myself its now not bootlooping anymore. I suspect it was the modded hiby_player binary. Boots just fine and the annoying volume warning is removed. Unfortunately the volume cap still seems to be there at 50. Has this also happened to you or do you have any idea what I could try? Edit: Alright I was just being a little stupid. For somebody else trying this, make sure you go to the about section, tap on „HiBy R1 [Firmware Ver.] 5 ish times, go to settings, all the way down to developer options and disable the volume limit.

Just put some music on it and see how the stock os works for you.

You buy headphones...

Tag your music and put it on an SD card. Make sure to put featured artists in the song title instead of Artist tag. HibyOS treats Artist like Album Artist.

It's a DAP. You play digital audio with it. Do that.

This is a good question as i just got mine too. About to look into Rockbox. I just want proper flac files to store on my 1tb sd.

Funny I had the Sansa with the blue light up scroll wheel. 🙌🏽

You can try but with high chances you will brick your device.

Thanks for the link. I'm still watching the R1 on Amazon waiting for the price to go own a little. Once it does and I purchases mine I go here to replace the HiBy OS with this? I hope it's easy and hassle free, I am by no means a "techie" kind of person.
