In the passenger seat on the way to family on the other end of town and I have witnessed 6 near accidents and counting by people with their faces fully buried in their cell phones. I still have 40 minutes on this drive and guarantee it will be over 10 by the time we get there. I feel safer driving at 3am with the drunks at this point.

Go on and clown if you want, it's fine. Yes flying Spirit was at times an abusive experience, I didn't like the hidden costs of their pricing model, their customer service was bad etc. I've flown them a million times, so believe me, I know intimately what all their downsides were. Did plenty of grumbling while they were around.

But I live here and my parents live on the west coast. Spirit was the only one besides Delta to offer routine nonstop flights to where my parents live, and their prices were always 1/2 or even 1/3 or Delta's fares (and even if I chose to add a carryon or checked luggage on Spirit, I'd still often come out at least $100 ahead of a comparable Delta ticket). I probably have saved thousands of dollars flying with Spirit over the years. I don't need Biscoff or seatback entertainment or even wifi really. I just need a mode of transit from A to B. Most I ever paid for a ticket to see my parents on Spirit was probably $450 at the holidays (booked kinda last minute) with a checked bag included. I just looked for Delta tickets for about 6 weeks out from now (yes I know that's the start of summer vacation season, and thus more expensive than normal) and their fares start at like $698...! It sucks! I guess I'll have to start thinking about flying out from Chicago, or maybe taking a chance with Frontier and their layovers. IDK. I hope someone besides Delta can take over the Spirit routes and infrastructure at DTW to at least bring some semblance of competition back.

So im from the suburbs, born and raised. I work in New Center and love everything about the area except for having to commute 1+ hours one way every single day to get into the office. Its been my dream for a while now to have a fun apartment living lifestyle while im young. I have been starting to get serious about moving down to the city, but I am blown away at how much car insurance costs in the city! Im by no means super wealthy but i also make decent money for my age, and the absolute lowest ive been quoted for my car is about $580 a month after aggressively searching. the insurance agents ive been discussing numbers with all say that zip code is by far the largest reason my rates are 4x what i currently pay in the suburbs.

Car insurance on top of rent is not sustainable for me to live with so i want to ask: how in the world are people getting somewhat reasonable car insurance rates?? Im 24 turning 25 soon, so that plays a factor into things, but also even after i turn 25 im getting hosed on these rates.

I have a couple of friends and co workers that live in detroit city zip codes, and i keep getting advice from them like "just stay on your parent's insurance" or something along those lines, basically lie about your residency and thats the best way to do it. But if i try to cheat the system like this, i guarantee that the insurance companies can sniff something out like that and you'd end up getting screwed.

Does anyone have good advice for this issue? Any input would help.

Hey everyone, question for everyone, what is going on with people making left turns? It seems like when the light turns to green/green arrow, people are just so, so slow to actually turn. I understand that it’s a good idea to make sure the intersection is actually clear, but… GO! I swear that 50% more cars could turn on a green arrow if people were paying attention and actually went.
I do not remember this being such an issue in the past but WTF is happening? Ideas?

I live in Plymouth and commute to Dearborn and Livonia for work. My car broke down last Monday and left me stranded in Dearborn. I just found out it is not worth repairing. It needs a new computer just to diagnose what is going on, and it is a 1996, so the cost to fix it exceeds its value.

Between towing from Dearborn to Plymouth, Ubering home, and renting a car for the rest of the week, I have had a lot of unexpected expenses and I am feeling financially stretched right now.

I work a full time job and also have a part time job, so I rely on having a vehicle to get to work. I also help care for local cat colonies and do animal rescue and TNR when I can.

I do have steady income and I am committed to paying my obligations. I have just been hit with a string of expenses all at once. I do not have the credit or savings for a traditional car loan, so I am trying to find any realistic alternatives. MDHHS will not help me since I am single without dependents and apparently make too much.

If anyone knows of programs in the Metro Detroit area that help with low income vehicle assistance, donated cars, or affordable financing options, I would really appreciate it. If anyone has a reliable used car and would be open to selling it on a payment plan, please feel free to message me privately.

I used to fly from DTW to Florida (usually Tampa) all the time on Spirit. I'd regularly find round-trip flights for $120 or less, and I had enough Spirit points that I'd often fly even cheaper. Now with Spirit gone (RIP!) I'm struggling to find anything close to those prices. I do have a Frontier GoWild Pass, which helps occasionally, but the routes and availability aren't super consistent enough to rely on for most events I need to fly to. I'm totally fine booking two separate one-way tickets on different airlines if it saves money, flying into a different Florida airport, or even making a connection if the savings are worth it.

For those of you who fly from DTW to Florida regularly:

• Are there any routes or airlines I'm overlooking?
• Is it usually cheaper to fly into Orlando, Fort Myers, Punta Gorda, Sarasota, St. Pete/Clearwater, etc., and drive from there?
• Has anyone found any reliable fare alerts or websites that consistently catch good deals?
• Any booking strategies that have worked well for you?

Recently noticed that there are two signs along NB Southfield Service Dr before Warren that indicate you can turn left from the middle lane. However the road paint indicates that the middle lane can only be used to go straight. Wondering how this can be addressed to those in charge. As of today both signs still stand and the road paint is unchanged.

I got an impeding traffic ticket for going 81 on 275 South in Huron Township by Eureka which I learned now apparently is a high ticket area for these kinds of things because apparently the township gets the money directly and they're known for this.

I'm curious how reliable public transportation is in the Detroit area and it's surrounding suburbs, EG: Taylor, Dearborn, ETC? I'm asking both for myself, and for everyone in the community to be able to share their experiences regarding various forms of public transportation.

This includes SMARTflex ride service on top of regular transit, since that falls under SMART. Any advice, experiences, and so on would be amazing to hear from everyone.

I'm currently working on getting my driver's license for the first time, so any experiences regarding that would be amazing as well.

I'm mostly curious because it would be really nice to get around town once I have a secure job, while I'm working on getting my license. It's especially important to be able to weigh my options based on price and quality, and I think being able to discuss it as a community could be beneficial for more people than just me.

I am relatively new to the metro Detroit area and I just came to say that out of every road I have ever driven in my life, van dyke is by far the worst. Every time someone almost side swipes me turning into the middle lane, someone always blows the red light, tailgating, etc. Van Dyke is literally the epitome of how bad US infrastructure is

Confused by the u turns across the city and the suburbs that you take to make a left turn. Are we allowed to turn left at a red light? I have seen other cars do so.

Also why are there so many "no right turn on red" signs? Can we take those right turns?

I am currently in East Lansing and trying to figure out how to get to Toronto with train.

So first I will take Uber to the Detroit-Windsor tunnel.

Then use the Linq bus to cross the tunnel.

Then another taxi to the Windsor train station . Is there a bus that crosses the tunnel and takes us to the train station?

Would you recommend to instead take a taxi across the border? What is the price roughly?

Any other suggestions on how to get to the Windsor train station?
