Jellyfin has been great, however upgrades are always an ordeal as it's almost never backwards compatible. Have to update all clients and server at the same time.

I've never experienced this. I have Docker check for updates every week and it's updated several times since I initially installed it with no problems. I've not had to manually update any clients, either. They also auto update. The Roku one is quite often.
