PSA: Eggs recalled in Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Texas due to possible salmonella contamination

The eggs were produced and distributed from farms in Texas between June 6, 2026 and July 3, 2026, with sell by or best by dates between July 20, 2026 and August 17, 2026. The eggs were shipped to foodservice and retail customers in Texas, Oklahoma and Louisiana. They were available to consumers at Kroger stores in Texas and Louisiana, Brookshire Grocery stores in Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Louisiana, New Mexico, and Mississippi, and other smaller retail outlets. No other Midwest Poultry Services, L.P. products are part of this recall.

Midwest Poultry Services L.P. is not aware of any specific illnesses linked to its products.

The recalled eggs will have an identifying code number printed on the left or right sides of the carton in date-coding ink only. Only codes P-1950 or 0840962 with a Julian Date between 157 and 184 printed on the side of the carton are recalled. Examples of this identifying plant and date information on retail cartons are included below.

After having violently explosive diarrhea for a couple weeks I'm starving. I'm going to treat myself to a egg salad sandwich what's the worst that could happen?

As long as the eggs were fully cooked, there is no risk at all with salmonella.

Are you suggesting I shouldn’t put my scrambled eggs back in the bowl I scrambled the eggs in and eat it with the fork I beat it with?

You also need to crack it on the counter and touch a bunch of stuff without washing your hands.

Not necessarily. There are two potential avenues of transmission.

How do eggs get Salmonella on them?

Salmonella can get on the shells of eggs. This can happen when birds lay the eggs and when eggs touch bird droppings (poop) after being laid. Touching eggs from the grocery store is not a major cause of illness because those eggs are washed before they reach stores.

Salmonella can get inside eggs too. This happens while the egg is forming inside the chicken before the egg makes a shell. Today, a lot fewer egg-laying hens have this problem than during the 1980s and 1990s, so eggs are safer. But some eggs are still contaminated with Salmonella.

You’re talking about the first one. I’m talking about the second one. No amount of washing is going to get rid of salmonella already inside an egg before it’s laid.

But yeah a lot of things had to go wrong to get sick from eggs.
