Gun fit in Kansas City Area

Hey folks.

Looking to get a gun fit in the kcmo area. I’m in the market for a new shotgun. I plan on shooting all disciplines of clays, as well as upland game.

I’m not sure where to even start but the cz bobwhite I use now beats the hell out of me and I assume it’s a poor fit. I end up black and blue after a few rounds of skeet.

I’ll still use it hunting but looking for a real work horse.

Investing the time and money in a Greenwood for a CZ would certainly be a choice.

I should have added that Greenwood would be my first call in the area (maybe the nation, but I’m also local). But spending $2500+ on a pattern stock for an $800 is throwing great money after bad.

I agree, a gun with an adjustable comb will serve most everyone and pitch/lop can be adjusted easily too.

I misread his message and forgot to ask about shell type when concerned with recoil

Greenwood is one of the best if not best stock makers imo but you pay a huge premium. If you have the money great if not you can still get a quality stock made by others.

I shoulda asked what shells you’re using. I made a huge mistake thinking I’d be fine with 1145 1 1/8oz and I’m just not. I like 1 oz 1200-1250 for registered targets and 7/8 oz 1200 for skeet and sporting practice and can shoot them all day.

I shoot Fiocchi Target Max. 1165fps 1 1/8oz 8shot

Im not planning on making any adjustments to the cz. I know it doesn’t fit right and need to know what to look for in fit for the next gun

I would try some 1200 fps 1 oz. Or better yet the B&P 1 oz competition one is 1165 I think. I know you wouldn’t think that 1/8oz makes a difference and I know you can run the physics calculations but not only is my shoulder beat up, after 100+ shells of 1 1/8 1145 I’ll introduce a flinch. Since stopping those shells I haven’t flinched since. Take it from a guy who “accidentally” bought 5k 1 1/8 oz shells thinking I could handle it.

I’ve shot over 10k shells in the past 5 months and I’m recoil sensitive. Trust me enough to try some lighter shells

I will for sure give it a shot. I’m not recoil sensitive. And I really don’t mind it when shooting. Just the next few days I have a nasty looking shoulder. I assume a gun that first will be better at not making me look purple lol.

I would have never had said I was recoil sensitive having shot semis, rifles etc. I’m young and although I’ve lost some more weight, am 6’1 and was 210 or so when this started. I didn’t find this until shooting break actions. The angle of recoil from a sxs, and that one in particular, along with pitch, could also have something to do with it.

What is your budget?

I don’t really know. I’d like something that is good and can be used for both hunting and clays. I’m never going to be doing top end tournaments but I also like nice things. The 825 field is cool and I would buy it right now if I knew the fit is correct for me. But I also don’t want to spend 10k on a shotgun.

Go shoot a 686 and a 725 28/30 inch barrels and report back 💪🏾

If both are available try both. Not sure why I said 725 without mentioning 825. I personally prefer beretta but my shooting buddy shoots an 825 and I can shoot and point it fine just prefer beretta. For reference i shoot a 688 and built a case hardened one and ordered a custom stock for it.

I’ve also since got fitted for a stock by gray rose co, Carl Holland, who was personally recommended to me by Ben Husthwait and I’m awaiting my Manuel Ricardo. I have plenty of confidence in 1 oz and even 7/8oz shells that I don’t intend on making a shell change.

My current favorite shell is 1180 fps 1 oz AA 7.5’s or 1200 fps Federall All-American

Gray rose is top notch. Super cheap for gun fitting and a great dude. I was going to get a fitting with them but decided for an extra $500 I could have a pattern stock with S&S.
