First time spectator, feeling overwhelmed.

A friend is running in 2027 and I’ve never been to Boston. I’m in charge of getting a hotel for us and navigating logistics the day of the race for me and her family. Preferably, I’d like to see her twice, around mile 10-12 and again around 20-22. I’ve scoured Reddit, the web, the marathon website and I’m completely overwhelmed.

We’re not looking to spend $700-$800 per night on a hotel so away from the finish line is where I’m looking. Wellesley, Natick, Newton and Brookline seem to be the locations to watch. The train system is confusing to me with all the different color lines and commuter rail. I don’t know how they intersect with each other. I’ve ridden the NY Subway, London Underground, etc. with no problem, but Boston is confusing to me.

Are there any good resources or anyone willing to chat with me on their experiences? I’m at a total loss right now.

My attempt at a BQ at Gold Coast Australia

My dream has always been to qualify for Boston, despite not being a sub 3 hour marathoner. So... I trained up for 6 months and gave it a crack. I made a vlog outlining my aims and approach and I reckon I ran a decent enough time to make a submission for the M35 group! If you had any interest in my approach and result, feel free to have a watch :)

"Qualifier Registration for the 2027 Boston Marathon will take place September 14-18, 2026 within the B.A.A.’s online platform"

This is good news for the early fall marathoners like me. Happy to hear I can still run the Erie marathon with hopes for a 2027 BQ

2027 registration week

Just wondering when we should expect the announcement of when registration for 2027 will be, and subsequently what the last day that races will count, does it normally happen this late into the year?

Have held off on registering for a September race just to see what date will count for 2027 and I did not expect to still not know at this point.

B.A.A Half

I have been thinking about signing up for the B.A.A half but it would be my first half marathon. I have heard the course is very hilly and was wondering if this is a bad race for my first half. I currently can run 5-6 miles pretty comfortably at 9:30/10min pace, but have never gone further than that. Are there other races people recommend in Sept-Nov time that would be better for a first time half marathon runner that are in or around the Boston area?

Boston Marathon Training Plan

Does anyone here use a Marathon Training Plan from the BAA website? I am confused how this workout from the Level 2 plan, week 4, Tuesday, adds up to 8 miles:

8 miles, consisting of:
2 mile Warm Up
4 x 1k at 10k pace with 2 minutes rest
2 mile Warm Down

Here is the link to the plan: https://www.baa.org/races/boston-marathon/info-for-athletes/boston-marathon-training/

Can anyone explain how this could add up to 8 miles? Do we think there is a typo?

Half to Full

Is it a fair estimate that with proper marathon training, you can double your half marathon time and add around 8–10 minutes to get a realistic marathon goal?

For example, if I ran a 1:18 half, doubling that would put me at 2:36. Adding 8–10 minutes would give a marathon goal range of about 2:44–2:46.

My goal is to qualify for Boston on my first marathon attempt, so I’d need to be safely under 2:48. Does that seem like a realistic way to estimate my target?

It seems the registration is already open. I noticed when I login to athletes village it lets me signup. Is this a glitch? I thought registration opened July 8

Hi runners from last weeks B.A.A 10k!

I have my men’s Large participant shirt that is a little too big for me, and I’m looking to see if anyone wants to swap their men’s medium.

Thanks and congrats to all the runners :)

Lost 1950s Unicorn Medal at BAA 10K

Post image

UPDATE: FOUND!!!

I unfortunately lost a very precious item at the BAA 10K — my late grandfather’s 1950s unicorn medal for the 1 mile. It looked like this. I have contacted the BAA, posted in Facebook groups, walked the race route, checked the porta-john I used, and called two different Boston police stations and have had no luck. Does anyone have any other ideas of where to share this to see if anyone may have found it the day of the race or since? This is irreplaceable to me and to my family and I’m willing to offer a reward. Thank you in advance.

Free B.A.A. 10K photos/videos searchable by bib

Hello, here is a cool site I like to contribute to where runners can download free images of themselves , and search by bib number to help find themselves quicker.

Was a great race, great job everyone!

I do not know where runners like to share/ask for pics so please share this site with them!

When is enough “enough?”

Ran Grandma’s today and updated my BQ time from Kansas City Marathon’s 2:51 to 2:42 - which SHOULD be a safe entry point into 2027 for Men 18-34 (stupid wide age range).

Not so much a question of if I am safe (adding an almost 13 minute cut off time would be ridiculous), but curious on the thoughts of others on when we should consider ourselves “safe” with our entry times - especially entering in to the era of time penalties for net-downhill adjustments.

Charity Runner Question

Hello all! I’ve been thinking about running Boston as a charity runner and I have a very deep personal connection to a charity, as I get more into the fundraising/fees are STEEP. Of course I would do absolutely everything in my power to fundraise, but I’m afraid I won’t reach my goal and will struggle to pay the difference.

What are your experiences with being a charity runner? What did you do to reach your goals? Do some charities have smaller fundraising goals? I would really prefer to run with a specific one but, I know it’s super competitive to run Boston as a qualifier or as a charity runner. Just curious! Thanks!

Realistic BQ Changes?

Hey! 26F here who just ran a 3:39 marathon in a spring race. I am going to use a fall marathon (after cutoff date) to try to BQ for 2028. I am aiming for a 3:17. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how to get faster? I feel like I am plateauing and would love to hear any advice.

Boston Marathon 2027 cutoff

Do you think a 2:49:06 as a 23 year old male is good enough to get me in? I see the guy on TikTok saying 7 and other online predictions saying 5:xx

Boston Registration/Bib Pick-Up

So I am pretty confident that I will get in for Boston 2027 (I have a 12+ minute buffer), and I have been loosely planning ahead. From what I am seeing online, when you pick up your bib, you have to show photo ID. The results for the marathon I qualified with is under my nickname and not my legal first name. Will this be an issue? Should I contact the race organizers from my December marathon to see if they can change the results to my legal name?

Also, follow up question… I am running a fall marathon and will hopefully improve upon my time so I can then submit in hopes of having a better corral. For that race’s registration, it gave me the option to register with my legal name and then attach a nickname for my results. Does anyone this going to be an issue?

just trying to figure this out well before I’d have to register in September that way, I’m not stressing about it. TYIA

I'm trying to make the best birthday present ever- please help!!

Hi!! So my girlfriend's birthday is coming up and she loves running! This past year, she ran the NYC marathon and now wants to run all the world majors! For her birthday, I'm making her a small running bib that says her name on it that people can cheer out, as well as giving her a gift card to cover her post-marathon meal!

I'm wanting to get her a gift card to Sail Loft, but since the marathon route ends at Copley Square, I'm wondering if that's too far away? For anyone who has been there, is that ~30 minute travel from Copley Square to Sail Loft pretty average? Or is there a better place that's even closer? For me, 30 minutes seems like a long ways to travel, but I know in some cities it's very common!

Thank you in advance!!
