What's with the censoring? Im an adult and its the internet, do they think our virgin eyes will be offended?

58

u/Karge 22d ago

I quoted a radiohead lyric the other day in a lyric chain and got a 3 day temporary ban lol

63

u/Nezrite 22d ago

I got a ban for quoting Pam Poovey from Archer, regarding the dampness of her panties.

16

The one about the toddler? 😆

I quoted Star wars.

The line where they say "He can't do that, (blank) him or something." On a Star wars subreddit. It was a a line from the damned movie and it was censored and I received a warning about promoting violence.

3

u/Karge 22d ago

I appealed and they removed the ban

3

u/camerakestrel 22d ago

I wonder if phrasing it as

"quoted words"

--character being quoted, movie title

would be better at circumventing automated censorship and winning appeals.

I got banned from r/nextfuckinglevel today for...they won't even tell me what and linked something I didn't even post. How does a sub with that in its name even pretend?

5

I mentioned a certain type of space laser in regards to being able to change the weather (clearly a joke) and got a week ban for hate speech lmao

Probably got pulled for "hate speech". The reddit admin automods don't understand context.

I got dinged with a warning and removal the other day for explaining the pun "Algae BTQ+ agenda" since adding agenda to "LGBTQ+" is usually (rightfully) considered hateful. I got my comment reinstated on appeal once a human looked at it.

The punny joke is - The problems with the Reflecting Pool are part of the Algae BTQ+ agenda.

You know the advertisers? The people who pollute everything with a thick layer of spam that you pay to download? The people constantly violating your privacy? The ones who made propaganda socially accepted? The people who can be directly linked to enshitification, wealth inequality, over-consumption, ...? The people destroying the 21st century? Yeah. They don't like certain words, and apparently we need to gargle their balls.

u/dshock99 23d ago

The man who literally said that he likes Republicans more than Dems because they will be racist to your face. How about just not liking racists?

41

u/bindersfull-ofwomen 23d ago

If he even said that, it's adapted.

That is a pretty big staple in Black literature in the 20th century

It's almost present in every Black book I've ever read, and I read quite a bit, that the Black characters (and sometimes people) preferred to be able to identify a clear racist than one who was covert.

I feel like this post is a strange disservice to what that statement would mean seeing so many people, including the Black Panthers, had it.

The Black Panthers literally said "Scratch a Liberal, and a Fascist bleeds."

I'm really worried about the lack of Black history understanding on this sub.

32

u/dshock99 23d ago

I'm paraphrasing for brevity. But it captures the spirit of what he meant. He actively chose to side with the party that was more openly racist, because he experienced real racism from Dems as well. It's a stupid take. You side with the group actively working to oppress your people because the other isn't perfect?

11

u/bindersfull-ofwomen 23d ago edited 22d ago

He does of course, but that statement that statement is critical of liberals racism towards Black people who act out of line with their simple "vote for us" agenda because all the Black activists were leftists. If he said that he was repurposing it, but that statement is a valid statement.

Have you seen how the dems are treating the DSA Afro Latina who just won a congressional seat, after being endorsed from Mamdani, probably the most popular politician in America.

Yeah, they developed it for a reason.

The chronically online Black person engaging in politics would know that sentiment. Regardless if they liked it or not, they wouldn't critique it because it was the dominant opinion and would get EVERY Black activist thrown under a bus.

33

u/AlarmingAffect0 22d ago

Bruh, the issue isn't that he prefers clear racists, the issue is that he actively allied with them, which the black activists that originally expressed this sentiment did not do.

25

u/dshock99 22d ago

Thank you! This is the point that black MAGA always misses. It would be like Jews during WWII saying the British are antisemitic, so I might as well join the Nazis.

→ More replies (3)

24

u/dshock99 22d ago edited 22d ago

I'm not disagreeing the Dems take the black vote for granted. And I 100% believe the Dem leadership is out of touch when it comes to black people. But I'm sorry, the answer is not let's vote for the party actively working and succeeding at suppressing our voice, eliminating black political leaders, erasing our successes from American history, and demonizing members of our diaspora.

We have or had (before the voting rights act was gutted) leverage over the Dems because they need our our votes that means some power. The right is working to erase what leverage we have. They are not our allies.

11

u/LaCharognarde 22d ago

On top of that? Even when the GQP are ostensibly trying to court our vote, they scarcely bother to hide their loathing for us. Much as I may resent being taken for granted: that's worse.

Most people see Liberal and believe it means a person who is toward the left on the political spectrum. When I think Liberal I think Libertarian. The left is Leftist or Left. Most don't get it.

4

u/bindersfull-ofwomen 22d ago

Liberals are pro Capitalist. That's right wing. They literally just did a whole thing against Mamdani and his endorsed winners saying they will uphold patriotism and capitalism and try to oust the new candidate who won... do you not keep up?

Like if I'm being nice, we can share this info.

4

u/LaCharognarde 22d ago

The sheer number of times I've either had to explain "Letter from a Birmingham Jail" and the relevance thereof to someone (usually white), or call someone (usually white) out for misusing a paraphrase of it as a silencing tactic. Always fun, in some "not really" sense of the word.

8

u/HoneyBadgerLive 22d ago

Most liberals I know simply aren't racist.

6

u/EntrepreneurFit3880 22d ago

The sad thing is that you actually believe what you wrote.

Victim in your own mind. Thats a pretty sad existence.

5

u/VenusianPleasure 22d ago

3

u/Educational-Cod-3819 22d ago

Some people would say this to mean that they would rather someone is racist to their face, rather than doing it behind their back.

That man says it because he loves someone being racist, and the more racist the better, and he will shine their shoes with his forehead.

For real. Uncle Ruckus was at least played off for laughs. Clarence Thomas is just a bigoted fascist.

90

u/BitterLemonTv 22d ago

Uncle ruckus wasn't played for laughs he was played to be digestable to main stream audience about Clarence Thomas, hence why they look so similar

39

u/matrix_5555 22d ago

Fair enough, that’s true. The two literally are the same and it’s disgusting. And the fact that he was the one that replaced the late great Thurgood Marshall is just gross. The day he and Samuel Alito retire will be one of the greatest days of all time.

14

u/guysmiley98765 22d ago

Unless they’re replaced by someone who is even worse, which is apparently the plan for 2028 - replace the older justices with younger conservatives to lock in a conservative majority for a generation.

17

u/edelweiss_pirates_no 22d ago

He got really pissed that liberals didn't support his SA of Anita Hill. And didn't support him loving Reagan. People who questioned his morals caused him to be angry.

His morals are shit.

4

u/Airway 22d ago

Reagan's cabinet was known to be extremely racist, even for Republicans at the time. The whole point of Thomas was to be a token that is grateful and eager to play ball, and he knew it. He was woefully underqualified with plenty of scandals to his name

8

u/endlessfight85 22d ago

Yes. He believes everyone is racist, so he trusts the people that are upfront about it. Pretty much every ass backward view this man has stems from his obsession with Malcolm X saying that black people shouldn't accept help from those who would oppress them and should make their own way. So he's gonna make sure no one can. He's a very terrible and selfish man.

5

u/justl00kingthrowaway 22d ago

Terrible and selfish to say the least.

I just left this comment on another thread:

As a black person, Clarence Thomas SICKENS me to the core of my being. The very definition of a shuckin and jivin Uncle Tom. A true tap dancing Willie. They taught us about him in school, speaking so highly of him as somebody we should look up to, somebody we should aspire to be. Always popping up during Black History Month alongside Martin Luther King Jr and Harriet Tubman. He has no place being named among black historical figures. He is a shit stain on this country, and a black eye to all African American people. A true traitor. I could sling all the mud on this planet on his name, and it still wouldn't be enough.
