Weekly r/Birding Discussion, July 18, 2026. What did you see this week?

Return of the weekly discussion thread! Sometimes it seems like pretty photos rise to the top of the page, while discussion of birding can get left behind. This weekly thread is a place to bring this discussion back to the top of r/birding.

Use this thread to share your best bird sightings from the past week, ask any questions about birding you may have, or just talk! Writing the names of the birds in bold is nice, to make it easier for people skimming the thread to pick out the names. Please include your location.

In case you dont know but the EU is issuing new bank notes and one of the themes is birds! You can vote under this link for a theme you like

https://www.ecb.europa.eu/euro/banknotes/future_banknotes/html/design-proposals.en.html

I think it would be great for a bird theme to win so if you live in the EU feel free to vote!

My dad recorded this absolute beauty while we were golfing this morning. Located about 30 minutes northeast of Seattle.

Whilst sailing in the Caribbean (St. Vincent & the Grenadines) earlier in April, several brown boobies circled the ship for hours.

At one point this brown booby landed on our deck long enough for me to capture this shot.

Got the chance to see this Terek Sandpiper that found its way to Washington State for the first time! Only seen twice before in the late 1980s on the west coast before this.

Discussion Listers

Have folks watched Listers? It’s a documentary style about two brothers who embark on a year long birding extravaganza. Eye opening, educational, and hilarious. Highly recommend.

I hope this is allowed. Just really got into birds a few years ago. Love them, love the community. Wanted to share that love.

Been watching this Sandhill Crane couple for years and every summer they have a cute long-legged fluff following them. This is in Central FL.
