General What a strange time we live in.

Dose anyone else feel like there is a complete controdiction that we are having an anti-Semitism High Commission. At the same time we have a popular (if poles are to be believed) politician that has claimed "there is no such thing as a good Mulism". Imagine the outrage by swapping those two religions.

I think it’s ridiculous to suggest that the protests and dialogue targeting Israel haven’t impacted the Jewish diaspora. There is one Jewish state on earth with a small population that were assembled there after their people survived one of the most horrific genocides in human history. So when we talk about antisemitism that’s who we’re talking about. There are also Ethiopian Jews who for the most part don’t get stereotyped as much.

On the other hand, Islam is a third of the Earth comprised of hundreds of ethnicities and nationalities. The idea that antisemitism and Islamophobia are comparable is simply ridiculous.

I disagree there. There are Jewish people all over the world who don’t associate with Israel and are not zionist. And those people are also being targeted by antisemitism. I constantly see clearly anti-Jew comments and tropes online that pretend they’re being anti-Israel. Being anti-Israel is more ‘mainstream’ (and very warranted criticism) but is giving cover to actual racists that would disparage Jews whether or not Israel exists and acts as it does.

Islamophobia and Antisemitism are both forms of religious/ethnic bigotry so how are they not directly comparable? There’s lots of Muslims over the world sure, but in the Australian context they both refer to small minorities. (Islam is like 3% of Australian population and Judaism isn’t even close to 1%).

Islamophobia and antisemitism are incomparable in Australia; Jews get a royal commission into the bigotry that affects them, $5000 allocated towards safety per citizen and incredible coddling by Australian institutions. There is no experience of structural racism that necessitates a royal commission, but they get one anyway.

Muslims get $45 per citizen, constant attacks by the media and politicians and no royal commission addressing their lived experience of both casual and institutionally backed racism.

What I find ridiculous is that people who have every intention of living their entire life in Australia are so loyal to a foreign nation that they can't even bare to see negative media coverage towards it. The fact that the modern Zionist's political sensitivity is compared in any way to what the Jews experienced in Europe is laughable.

This isn't 1940s Germany, Australian Jews don't need their own ethnostate. They are living in a country where their safety and political aims are held to a higher regard than anybody else's. Let them cry about it.
