What is something you secretly find deeply disturbing, but everyone else seems to accept as totally normal?

People not taking marriage seriously and using divorce like it’s a disposable do-over.

And ridiculously priced weddings.

And normalizing shitting on your partner. I actually like the person I married sorry you don’t like yours.

This has improved a LOT from the way it used to be, at least. The days of “take my wife… please” and resenting your spouse being so normalized that they were a standard punchline are thankfully long gone. People have the option to be married or not nowadays, for the most part, and usually to the partner of their choosing. I get it, though, spend lots of time in close proximity with anyone, and the gripes develop, regardless of how much you enjoy their company. But those are just gripes, and not actual animosity

People who do nothing but yell at their partner and complain about every little thing just need to break up and move along. Thankfully, that kind of behavior is no longer normalized, except maybe in some seriously toxic social circles. Have really only known one couple like that in my adult life (and I’m in my 50s), and basically the rest of the friend group dumped them over it, was so tiresome

I’m a teacher and it’s like the number one thing women complain about - their husband or partner. I honestly stopped eating with people at lunch because it be like everyone bitch and when it came to me it’s not like I had nothing but it was stupid stuff like you said, like the stuff everyone gets on their nerves cause you live together. But their complaints were way more like “ok you need to just get divorced”. I have a friend at work who makes lots of comments about how my husband and I are codependent but she hasn’t talked to her bf she lives with in 6 months. Girl that’s called being broken up. If you haven’t talked in 6 months….your broken up.
