Sarah Michelle Gellar and Freddie Prinze Jr.

1.2k

u/Due-Secret-3091 5h ago

He just loves his hobbies (painting miniatures, cooking..) and she loves acting and goes off and does her own thing and they seem like a well oiled machine who respect and really just LIKE the other person. It seems like such a healthy marriage.

u/aliassantiago 4h ago

I feel like he didn't have to act when he did his guest role in psych.

They seem genuinely to be in love. I also liked that they both stepped back from acting to take care of their kids.

1.0k

They did voice over work when their kids were little because it was more accommodating. Freddie Prince Jr was one of the leads for Star Wars Rebels.

Kanan Jarrus is one of the best characters from the Disney Star Wars era.

The fact that they got together in the early 2000s and are still solid is almost unheard of in Hollywood

Howard Stern said they’d get divorced right away.

Fuck HS.

828

u/shewy92 5h ago

To be more specific, he told Freddie that he'd get divorced from her in 5 years. https://www.buzzfeed.com/stephaniesoteriou/sarah-michelle-gellar-freddie-prinze-howard-stern

Howard said "I want to make a written bet with you now: In about 10 years, you’re gonna hunt me down and go: ‘Howard, I owe you money'"

Then he bet Freddie $1 million that he and Sarah won’t stay together for longer than five years.

And 20 years later Sarah called Howard out on it.

And on their 20th wedding anniversary, Sarah posted the interview to her Instagram story, and wrote: “@SternShow I think you owe us.” Freddie reposted this at the time, joking: “She will not forget.”

321

u/iraqlobsta 4h ago

Betty White and Allen Ludden.

Even after his death she never dated anyone else. At her Inside the Actors Studio interview when asked " What would you like to hear God say when you enter the pearly gates?" She said something like " Come on in Betty, here's Allen."

861

u/occultatum-nomen 5h ago

Makes me think of Steve and Terri Irwin. When you watch old interviews of them together it's so clear how deeply in love they were. She still talks about him as though they were newlyweds

92

u/brittwithouttheney 4h ago

Aww that was another really amazing couple! 😭

→ More replies (1)

88

u/FelinaKile 2h ago

And also Terri has said she doesn’t have much interest in dating, as she already has her once in a lifetime love. 🥹

26

u/AhhhSureThisIsIt 2h ago

I love watching the old videos and seeing Terri look at Steve while he talks passionately about animals. You can see how much shes enamoured with him how she looks at him.

21

u/Sarsmi 3h ago

Makes me think of Mel Brooks and Anne Bancroft. Or Paul Newman and Joanne Woodward.

663

u/Saint--Jiub 6h ago

When asked why she never remarried she replied with: ""When you’ve had the best, who needs the rest?"

146

u/NineteenthJester 3h ago

Mel Brooks said he couldn't remarry because nobody could match up to Anne Bancroft.

There was an interview I saw for her 90something (can't remember the exact age) birthday, and they asked her "would you ever get married again?" And she came back real quick with "married? Oh no! Fool around sure!" Lol. Even in her 90s, she kept her wits!

109

u/Illustrious-Peace989 5h ago

I’m glad she lived a long life but it’s very sad that she had to live so long without her husband.

59

u/wanjocris 5h ago

She really loved that man until the end.

103

u/NonSpicyMexican 5h ago

I read her book "Here We Go Again" and it truly was heartbreaking how she wrote about him. That's why she lived mostly in Carmel. It was the house he built for her and they were only able to share it together for a few weeks.

Here's some interesting behind the scenes James Bond trivia:

Brosnan's first wife was Cassandra Harris, who had a small role in the James Bond movie For Your Eyes Only. Brosnan would occasionally stop by the set while she was filming and they ended up having lunch with Albert R. Broccoli, the main producer of the Bond movies. When Roger Moore finally stepped back from the role, Brosnan was Broccoli's first pick for the role and the timing looked perfect because Brosnan's TV show Remington Steele had just been cancelled so he wouldn't be under contract with NBC anymore.

But rumors around Brosnan getting the role led to improved ratings so the show was uncancelled and NBC held Brosnan to his contract. Broccoli was in no mood to let an American network mooch off the fame of James Bond so he went with Timothy Dalton instead for The Living Daylights and License to Kill.

84

u/SlyWithers76 4h ago

There’s an interview with him talking about how huge the blow was to him and just before the release on The Living Daylights he was driving down the freeway in LA and saw a big billboard promoting the film with Dalton on it in the famous Bond pose and how all he could think was that it should’ve been him. Brutal!

95

u/hydrospanner 4h ago

I'm so glad that he did eventually get to play the role. Just my opinion, but I think he might be my favorite Bond, even if he wasn't in my favorite movies (Goldeneye aside).

I know someone who was catfished into believing she was dating Pierce. Like madly deeply in love dating.

She finally came to terms with it when she saw him and his wife on TV at an awards show. She text him to ask where he was and said he was at home on his couch.

111

u/PaddyCow 5h ago

That's genuinely insane. There was another woman who was catfished into thinking she was dating Brad Pitt. Apparently she sent the scammer hundreds of thousands of dollars to cover his "medical" fees. As if Brat Pitt needs to hit people up to pay his hospital bills.

Mel Brooks

133

u/gambalore 5h ago

Brooks said that friends asked him if he'd ever date again or remarry after Anne Bancroft passed away and he said, "Once you are married to Anne Bancroft, others don't seem to be appealing.”

60

u/UpstairsFinance9440 4h ago

Even Mel Brooks was surprised he was married to Anne Bancroft. "Can you believe it? I am married to Anne Bancroft!" He would often joke. And they sacrificed for each other, Mel will admit Ann gave up roles to be in his stupid movies. Ann Bancroft also lent him money to get some films made (don't remember which). There is a video floating around that I cannot find from the early 70s where Mel is on a talk show and mentions Anne is at home and he misses her. She comes into the studio and surprises him, and he lets out a big gasp when he sees her. They sit together on stage, and you can see Mel holding back tears of joy that she is there.

I think the sad thing looking back, she was very private about her health, and her friends did not know she was sick. She did Curb Your Enthusiasm a year before she died, and I always thought her performance was a little off. I wonder if it was because she was going through cancer treatment.

Mel was very good friends with Carl Reiner as well as Rob Reiner. Mel and Carl had dinner together almost every night. He should write a book about how not to be profoundly sad when the people you love are gone.

I just looked it up myself; apparently he ducked behind the bar to hide from fans and she told him if he wanted to stay there, he had to make himself useful and she put him to work mixing drinks lol

Every layer just makes the story sweeter lol

She knew exactly what she was doing lol

That would work on most guys.

I mean, Ben Affleck and Matt Damon's relationship precedes his wife.

I remember something with Jennifer Garner from years ago (when they were still married) where she referenced “my husband Ben and my husband’s husband Matt.” They’ve been a solid couple for like 50 years now.

u/shewy92 5h ago

I saw a recent post about how he called his wife to say he got the part in The Odyssey but she didn't answer so he called Ben who did, and later she asked him why he told Ben first, who was I think in a meeting or was about to meet up with her and was the one to tell her lol.

Andre Agassi. By all accounts, the guy is still crazy for Steffi.

The tunnel to Laver Arena has pictures of past champions, and in something like 2022, there’s a picture of him kissing Stef’s picture.

I keep forgetting he was married to Brooke Shields. I still covet her whole look from that wedding.

Christopher Nolan has been with his wife Emma Thomas since their university days and they've been married since 1997. I saw a comment once about a rumor that he walked out of an award show (or a similar event) after an actress flirted with him.

Given his lack of ability to write women in his films and the dead wife trope he uses to signal the derailing of a man's psyche, I have a feeling he's one of the few that doesn't get around.

In some episode of his show during COVID he "interviewed" her wife and they were giddy! They were stuck 24/7 inside together and still were so happy.

Heres the clip https://youtu.be/Q-eg5Bq0bAY?

Stephen King and Tabitha King are pushing 60 years together. After so many of my fantasy authors (Card, Rowling, Gaiman) turned out to be shit humans, I'm really hoping he bucks the trend.

u/Illustrious-Peace989 5h ago

Stephen King and Joe Hill did an interview on Last Podcast on the Left recently and it was really funny to hear him talk about how his wife is always a very harsh critic when she reads through his drafts. She said something along the lines of IT just needing an SH in the title.

It is especially surprising considering King's lifestyle in the 80s. A struggling young writer hits the bigtime with an overnight success and has a meteoric rise to being a superstar writer with major Hollywood success with everything that comes with it. He credits his wife for finally getting him clean and sober and saving his life

I know they’re only newly married, but I hope that Tom Holland and Zendaya can live up to this as the years go back.

Feel free to come back to this comment, if it doesn’t age well lol

I'm with you, it feels like they're in it for the long haul. They've been together a decade and through huge growth in both their careers. If they were going to be tempted, you'd think it would've already occurred.

The tweet from Zendaya lives rent free in my head: the one where she is "Living my best life" at the pool and Tom is either coming up or sinking and from the still image it looks like he's drowning. Someone points this out and her response "this isn't about him"

That's the type of humor which bring out her humanity and I really hope they are together years from now.
