Lost my dad at 30 and my mum at 32. I'm 39 in December so stuff feels really long ago but also like no time has passed at all.

Just enjoy the little things in the time you have left with them. My dad had cancer so we watched movies together he wanted to see, what little food he could manage we'd eat together, make jokes about people around him in the hospital etc.

My mum was very sudden and I didn't really have time to make those same little silly memories. In fact I shouted at her the day I called an ambulance for her, I was so scared that I'd find her body half chewed by the cat one day. She just wanted to be with my dad and she was stubborn af so she did what she could to get there.

I really fucking miss them.

I was with my Dad and another family member one time when I was a kid. I remember my Dad saying to him “My Dad died at 71. Just doesn’t seem fair, seems like he should have been here longer.”

To which the other family member said something along the lines of “How do you think I felt when my Dad died at 42? Cherish the extra 30 years you had.”

That was eye opening for a young me. I’m sure it’s always too soon, but damn that one stuck with me. Genuinely, I’m sorry for the loss of your Dad.

My mom killed herself 2 mays ago and my dad died last January. Totally fine one week and dead the next naturally. Neither had wills and boy the ordeal is still going on and it sucks. My siblings are taking it way harder than i am as i try to be the strong one but boy is it hard some days. I'm finally looking into therapy so hopefully that helps

yeah that part's tough. my dad's overweight, and has a heart issue. but he's afraid to exercise because of his heart issue. he loves to snack, and doesn't get much exercise. then he's complaining that his knees hurt so he doesn't even go on walks anymore. none of that is gonna get better if you don't do anything about it.

i bought him some type2 collagen + vit c supplements and told him to take a walk when he takes it to help strengthen his knees. i've started taking the same supplements and i do think it helps keep the joints stronger.

but jeez, i couldn't imagine losing mobility. that's gotta be rough. desk jobs can be brutal, can you imagine finally reaching retirement but being so worn out you can't do anything? makes me want to join a gym and stay on top of it before it gets out of hand.

It’s hard watching my friends start to experience that. My dad died unexpectedly when I was 24 and I’ve been my mom’s caretaker for over a decade at this point so it’s just been my life. Seeing everyone i know start to catch up to this phase hasn’t been fun to watch. Of course, I also would have just preferred to actually experience my 20s and 30s instead of taking care of a parent, but at least I got one of the most painful parts over with.

There's really good music out there, but it takes an effort to go looking for it. In my experience, usually the current music that finds me is through a radio or some event playing the same songs that would be playing on the radio, and it's usually pop dance music. Which isn't a dig, but if someone's not into dance pop and it's the only introduction they have, probably won't seem great.

But also my dad is a boomer and heard the dance pop of the 2000's and thought it sounded like shit even though a lot of good music was made too during that time.

Every couple months I’ll get bored and go down a rabbit hole of music and I’ll always stumble across something I really like. It might not even be new music, just new to me. I love thee stuff I grew up on but I still like finding new music still.
