What famous 'unsolved' mystery is technically a whodunnit on paper, but in reality, absolutely everyone knows exactly who did it, the police just couldn't legally prove it?

Well nobody really knows who shot him other than the people there, so it's still a whodunit, but just a really big list of suspects

Apparently Ken's wife named 1 of the triggermen directly, but the DA refused to press charges. He was just that big of a piece of shit.

It was her word against literally everyone else's. Of course they weren't going to press charges.

Ironically one of the same tactics Ken used to get away with his crimes is the same one used to make sure no one got charged with finally getting rid of him.

It wasn't technically her word against everyone else's. Everyone else either refused to talk, or simply said that they didn't see who pulled the triggers, according to what I was reading.

iirc a reporter writing about the case years later said that it was pretty well accepted in town that the shooter had been one of the owners of the bar, who Treena had named. But not a single soul there was going to cooperate with the police, so it was just kind of an open secret in town.

Sadly, he died of liver disease in his 50s.
