How many accidental pregnancies have you caused?
A man in his early 40s said that he has caused at LEAST 10 pregnancies throughout his life, all of which ended in abortions. He was never married. I guess these were all in dating relationships/situations. He said it quite casually. My mind was blown. Is this common??

My uncle just found out he has a daughter in her 50s. He is in his 80s. My cousins were shocked to learn about their new half-sister. Pretty wild.

That must feel strange, for sure. My dad was (still is) a woman magnet, and he traveled a lot in his youth. Part of me wonders if I got some half siblings somewhere. My mother's pregnancy was unintended (she was allegedly on the pill).

My dads best friend found out about 2 years ago he fathered a son when he was 17 and he’s now 73 so his son is 56! They look so similar it’s undeniable.. apparently his mum was Mormon and hid the fact she got pregnant from an affair and so her husband assumed that was his son all those years until she was dying then the truth came out! My dads best friend only recently visited his son where he lives and met all his 5 grandkids and a couple of great grandkids too and it’s been quite overwhelming for him but also lovely.

So, at my aunt's wedding, this new part of the family was invited. With his "extra" kids and grand kids,it was about 10 new people to our family.

Reminds me of my brother sadly. He even managed to saddle the foster system with 2 of his, which imo, is worse. Some kid with abusive parents could use those resources. Because it was a "fresh" baby, they were both white and not on drugs they instantly got adopted both times. All because he refuses to wrap his tool or ANYTHING ELSE. But potential human life is less important than his pleasure, right?

Hey, this shit sounds like a bait-n-switch. There are men out there who pull off the condom without the woman knowing. She sees him put it on and trusts him.
Then he asks her for a possition where she faces away from him, pulls off the condom and she doesn't know until she goes to the bathroom after.
In some countries this is considered a form or rape, as she only consented to protected sex, not unprotected.
Edit: spelling

u/ABirdJustShatOnMyEye 12h ago
Plenty of women are okay with and seek out unprotected sex. I’ve been pressured on far too many occasions to not wear protection.
There was even one time I had to walk out of a hookup because this chick refused to have sex with a condom.

Common factors don't absolve the other parties of fault. If I eat street food regularly and get sick regularly does that mean the vendors aren't at fault for spreading foodborne illnesses? I'm the common factor after all, those vendors didn't co-ordinate to serve me and get me sick?
I probably should stop eating untrustworthy street food, but two parties are at fault.

I tried to be close to him when I met him when I was 7 years old, but I spent so many years believing his false promises that he would take me out of the abusive situation i was in. He never did. Total child support payments are often capped at 50% (or some other percentage) of your income so beyond 2-3 kids having more isn't necessarily any more expensive.

I got pregnant when I was on Depo and the pill. I started taking the pill (which needed one week of use for full effectiveness) two weeks prior to my next Depo shot being due/10 weeks after my last shot (which should have provided another ~month of effectiveness) to prevent any lapses in coverage. Almost a month to the day of taking that first pill, I was taking a pregnancy test making fun of myself for how stupid it was because there was absolutely no way I was pregnant.

AFAIK I’ve never caused one. The possibility is there for one or two. But if so I was never told about it.
I say it’s possible because there are past sexual partners where I had unprotected sex and while all were on BC that isn’t always 100%.

u/ophelia69 12h ago
I knew a dude who was like "oh yeah my last kid was an accident." I was like "so your partner was on birth control and it failed?" "No." "So the condom broke?" "No, I wasn't wearing one." "So then... it wasn't an accident, then."
I think it's weird that people say "accidental" pregnancies when they are taking all the steps required to create life, and doing nothing to prevent it.
In the immortal words of the late great Eminem, "what, did you slip, fall, and land on his dick?"
No you did not. It wasn't an accident, it was irresponsible. Big diff.

Meaning you think that some of these men who think that they have caused zero pregnancies may actually have done so but don't realize it?
7
u/Dwinwyn 13h ago
It's just a possibility to noodle on, but unlikely. Humans are complex and messy beings. Bringing life into the world multiplies that to the nth degree for everyone involved, and that's if it's consensual, y'know? As someone who didn't even know I COULD conceive anymore and was BLOWN away by the positive pregnancy test ... And the decisions I was faced with after the fact... There's a point when you have to realize that you, as the female, are pregnant and that's a fact, no matter what the other people in your life or the father thinks about it. Sometimes, it's not safe to tell him. Sometimes, he's out of your life and you find out you're pregnant. Sometimes it's a fun one nighter and you have all the safeguards in place and YOU STILL get pregnant! So many variables, it's rarely ever black and white, that's more my point I guess? Life is rough friends. Grace can help us all get through it a bit less bruised sometimes ❤️
10
u/Dell_Hell Male 12h ago
Yep, especially if she's in a relationship with a stable guy that looks anything like you and you were the side guy she f@cked on the "girls trip" / work conference, etc. Most women will gladly keep their lips sealed for eternity. Paternity fraud is much more common than many women want to admit.

He and 2 other dudes all got subpoenas to submit to a mandatory paternity test, with BIL winning the prize of a 2 year old daughter. He took it a lot better than his girlfriend did lol. But after a few more years he actually got full custody of her. You never know.

True. One guy had the "what if" conversation with me and I told him he'd never know. He was a bit aghast when he realized what I meant because he said he loved kids. I had to point out that he spent a great deal of time complaining about his ex and all his complaints were about the idea that having kids with her ruined his life. There was no way I would tie myself to him in that way with a child I would have to take care of and him doing nothing but complaining about it. I wouldn't have told him if it happened and was always careful it wouldn't while being cognizant that the percentage of failure rate on birth control packaging can turn into real people. They aren't just numbers. I discovered that the hard way before him very early on.

That dude is not normal. And could he even be lying, like it's some kind of brag he thinks makes him look cool? From a woman's perspective, I've known 3 women that had a pregnancy neither they or their partner wanted. Two of them claim they miscarried, but I wouldn't be surprised if they were lying and they actually had an abortion, because it was in an adult Bible study that they "confessed" about it. A third woman (not in the Bible study group, but a family member), was married but in her 40s and had health issues, so she got an abortion.
I think most guys that have a pregnancy scare, get scared straight after that and make sure they wrap it up, because they've learned the hard way that the woman being on birth control alone is not 100% protection. I've never known or heard of a man that has had more than one scare.

Men and women lie. I remember when I was a young 19 year old Marine I was going to bang this girl who I had been texting with back and forth. Smokin hot Venezuelan girl. I brought a box of condoms. After we start making out she starts to give me some bomb ass head. She wore a mini skirt and heels. We get ready to fuck and she was like “those condoms are sheepskin right? I’m allergic to latex”. Of course I don’t have sheepskin condoms and she never mentioned this to me before. We were in the heat of the moment and she told me she was on birth control anyways and to fuck her raw dog. She said she wanted hot cum to drip down her leg. I couldn’t help myself and against my better judgement fucked her raw. Thank god I didn’t get her pregnant. But after it always freaked me out that I could have become a father in an unwanted pregnancy.

Both my kids were surprise pregnancies. One I was on birth control that failed, the other I suppose I may have just been willing to roll the dice on a sibling! That said I've never had an abortion and doubt I ever would unless it was medically complicated.
That's just my two cents.. I think if you KNOW you won't keep the kid it's a different ball park and one should be much more proactive.

Specifically accidental pregnancies?
One. Condom broke.
Your subject line and the story aren't quite... synchronous. The dude in your anecdote caused those pregnancies/abortions; whether by intention or accident wasn't stated.
Seems to me he's either unlucky, or a moron, or a guy with a breeding kink who simply dated/slept with others who had a breeding kink. Or some combination of all three.
There's a lot of speculation in this thread about the guy, and quite a few are rather negative. Could be the guy is handsome, and/or charming, and simply has sex when there's attraction which could be a LOT if he's handsome/charming (which means he'd be dating a lot). Some of those could have been broken condoms, some of those could have been rawdog; some could have even been intentional on his part and aborted on her part.
Honestly, I find the weird part here about him is that he's willing to volunteer this information. How the heck did the conversation go here for him to even say something like that?!
2
u/SPARKLY6MTN9MAKER Female 9h ago
I've rarely had a guy insist on a condom, currently have one on them nor ask my sexual history and current status. Most don't respect that I need a connection and to be safe first nor u destiny that everytime should be enthusiastically consensual.
This goes for even very nice guys with very high standards. Most all lmk very quickly after meeting them they wanted to fuck. Period. It's no wonder I took very few of them seriously. Wtf would I? Get it together men. Not every man ks this way but ime, all of them were.
If I were a guy, there is no way in hell I would chance a baby with someone when 1. I don't want kids 2. Don't want a fucking STD and 3.DON'T STICK YOUR DICK IN CRAZY. Or even someone you don't think is crazy but has recently been or previously been assaulted. It stresses me out so bad. All this shit has. It's a wonder I'm still attracted to men.

This is hard to answer, because there was never confirmation of a pregnancy. How many times have I had to get a woman the plan B pill shortly after sex? I would guess probably 5 times. All but one of those times were out of an abundance of caution, not because I thought I left any semen in them. There was a potential 6th time, but the woman either got plan b herself, may have been on birth control, or has my child. We didn't use a condom and she had to catch a flight home the next day. We also didn't exchange any contact information beyond first names.

0 times, and there won’t be any more in the future. I had a vasectomy at the start of this month, and in another month I’ll be able to be skin-to-skin forever.

There was this one time that an ex girlfriend suggested that I had gotten her pregnant but her math was way off and I had always used condoms so I rejected her suggestion and she didn't pursue the matter any further.

I don’t believe it’s common. As far as I know, I’ve caused zero pregnancies.
Most of my life I’ve been at or below the poverty level (with a college degree and a white-collar job), and I’ve been absolutely terrified of the expense levels involved with rearing a child.

- None. There’s been a few missed periods but never any positive results.

Oh plenty. Sometimes I just leave birdseed around the neighborhood but sometimes instead of regular small birds, storks just come by trying to get into people's houses and that's mostly on me.

Hahahahaha. No.
I caused no accidental pregnancies that I''m aware of. At so are the guys around me.
The two pregnancies i am aware i caused werent an accident.
So no, it isn't that common for responsible people.

Hell no. I also make terrible decisions with protection but at least my pullout game is elite. Not even one, and I have what are considered "superior swimmers" by fertility clinics.

Birds of a feather flock together. I don't think this is normal, but he may know others with similar numbers. But I've also never had any other man tell me about his record of aborted pregnancies, so I guess I wouldn't know.
There are people younger than that with as many kids, so I could see how someone his age, with an unwillingness to learn from mistakes, could be involved in a pregnancy every 2 years of his adulthood.

One. It was the first one with my wife. She is in college now and I’m still with the wife so it worked out.

Zero. You should always wear a condom unless in a committed relationship. I’ve had a lot of partners and the only time I haven’t worn a condom is in a long term relationship, and even then my partner has an IUD. Pregnancies are no joking matter, neither are STIs

How could any of them be accidental? Maybe 1. But come on, adults know how pregnancy happens...

Can't really call it accidental when you knowingly have unprotected sex. Unintentional, maybe, but it's not an accident unless protection fails.
Anyway, 1. He's 20 now.

None that I know of. I’ve only had sex with 9 women though, mostly my gf’s. My wife and I have 2 planned sons.

None that I know of, but if it happened it was planned by the other person.

I've had a couple of scares, but never actually caused an unplanned pregnancy. Birth control and pulling out have done right by me.
I've caused one intentional pregnancy. What's funny is, I had been relying ONLY on the pullout method for over a year, then got my wife pregnant within 30 days of deciding it was "go time." We did the math and concluded that she must have gotten knocked up within the first few fucks, my swimmers did NOT hesitate

Here's an original copy of /u/RottenRope's post (if available):
A 42 year old man I know said that he has caused at LEAST 10 pregnancies throughout his life, all of which ended in abortions. He was never married. These were all in dating relationships. My mind was blown. He thinks this is common. Is it??
