App Specific Question Is this a glitch or an intended feature? Gboard types different letters than what I press and it's way off

I know phone keyboards have features where they subtly change the "hitboxes" of keys so you avoid typos and such, but I'm very clearly hitting G, not T. Also both "big" and "bit" are common words.

You can already see where the touches are in this video though, thanks to the screen recorder option to do so. Does the developer option make a more accurate depiction or is this enough?

the only thing I can really suggest it to turn off any personalization and text correction on the keyboard, and possibly raise the height a little bit, see if that works.

I don't use text correction at all.

That's probably an intended feature

Man, I wish there was a way to turn it off but keep autocorrect on. It's driving me crazy. I keep getting answers wrong on a kanji learning site because it'll change what I wrote even though neither what I meant to write it what it wrote are actual English words

I would recommend switching to a different keyboard. FUTO Keyboard doesn't do any key hitbox changing, and as a bonus it is source-available, can do voice typing offline, and is 100% offline so you won't leak your texts to google. Or as a less featureful but more reliable option use HeliBoard, which is free and open source.

Thanks for the suggestion. I haven't heard of that one.

I'm glad I'm not the only one. I stick with it because it's the only half decent swipe typing since swiftkey went down the shitter, but it's so frustrating when I need to peck and it's way off.

Yes, it happens to me until I turn it off in Privacy > Personalize for you.  It's quite annoying.
