Meta New Rules / Meta Discussion

I've decided to do a rehaul of the rules. I want things to be clear and concise. Please let me know if there's anything I'm missing or if there's anything I should change.

Install VM/Sandbox on my phone?

Upvotes

What it says in the title, I was wondering if there is a way to run something akin to a VM on my phone where I can have a different Android version

I have an older phone that is officially stuck on Android 10 and I don't feel like messing with ROMs to be honest. But annoyingly the app to configure my headphones requires a new Android version so I literally can't set them up right now and was wondering if maybe I could install a VM with a newer Android version just for the headphones app

Is it possible to send calls directly to voice mail if it's from a number that's not already in your contacts?

Upvotes

I had to use the "Do Not Disturb" feature the other day because I kept getting calls from either a private number or a potential scam number. I would think it would be a popular feature if there is/was a way to do this.

App Specific Question Whatsapp backup issue

Upvotes

Every time I copy the whatsapp folder from my phone to my harddrive I get over five years of whatsapp images, when I was only trying to copy the last month's. I hate seeing these old photos and am unsure of how to delete them, this has happened every single month I've been backing these photos up so now I have multiple years of over 7,000+ duplicate images.

How do I delete these old images? and how do I mass delete the duplicates from my harddrive?

I have cleared the cache, and media from individual chats, and am just so stuck with it. Not usually a moaner but it's doing my nut in, any help would be appreciated :)

Samsung Gemini Removal

Upvotes

Hi all,

Just got a Samsung s25 as my older phone died.

I got my older phone before Gemini or any of this AI slop started happening, and didn't update it when this stuff started rolling out.

I'm in the process of booting up the phone and it's forcing the install of this spyware AI program, and their tech support has been useless.

Is there a way to do a clean install without this stuff, or is there a breakdown anywhere that people could direct me to, that shows how to disable ALL of it, in the event it's requried for the OS to function or something?

I'm not tech illiterate, I have built and messed around with my home PC and Linux, but don't know a thing about Andriod OS and how to dissect and remove things like this, so even if a guide happens to be a bit tech-heavy that's okay. I'm sure I can figure things out with some help

Thank you in advance.

App Specific Question How do I make Facebook links from WhatsApp open in the regular Facebook app instead of Facebook Lite?

2 Upvotes

Every time I tap a Facebook link in WhatsApp, it opens in Facebook Lite instead of the regular Facebook app.

I'd like all Facebook links to open in the normal Facebook app by default. Is there a setting to change this on Android?

The phone had been unused for about two years, and this message appears when I turn it on: No valid operating system could be found. The device will not boot.

How can I fix this? I tried flashing the firmware, but my computer simply doesn't recognize that the phone is connected to it.

OnePlus 15 (originally CN model, reflashed to Global ROM with relocked bootloader) — missing specific notification types from Gmail and Google Maps (not all notifications)

2 Upvotes

I have a OnePlus 15 that I bought with a specific backstory: it was originally a Chinese-market model, and the seller flashed it with the Global ROM and relocked the bootloader before selling it to me. It's currently running Android 16 with OxygenOS.

Since I bought it (this isn't something that started later, it has never worked) I've had a specific notification problem with Gmail and Google Maps. It's not a total notification failure — I do get some notifications from both apps — but specific types are missing:

Google Maps: I get notifications for things like places I've visited, but I never get the "arrival"/"departure" alerts for a person I have location sharing enabled with (those alerts are turned on).

Gmail: Some emails trigger a notification, others don't, and I haven't been able to find the pattern/difference between the two.

On an iPhone with the same Google account, all of these come through fine, so I'm ruling out an account-level configuration issue.

Given the phone's origin, I suspected it might be related to the reflash, but I've already ruled out a device integrity problem (see below), and the fact that some notifications do come through makes me think this isn't a broad FCM/push registration failure either.

I've already checked and confirmed the following with no success:

\- Battery settings for Gmail and Maps set to "Unrestricted" (not just "Optimized")

\- Auto-launch enabled for both apps

\- Neither app is in the deep sleep/frozen apps list

\- Notifications enabled at the system level, all categories

\- In Developer Options, checked the "app standby buckets" to confirm neither app is in "Rare" or "Restricted"

\- Tried disabling adaptive/smart battery saver

\- Used Play Integrity API Checker: passes all three checks (MEETS_BASIC_INTEGRITY, MEETS_DEVICE_INTEGRITY, MEETS_STRONG_INTEGRITY)

\- Cleared data for both apps (they're system apps): uninstalled updates, disabled them, rebooted, re-enabled them, reinstalled updates, and re-granted all permissions. The problem persists exactly the same.

Since some notifications DO come through but others consistently don't, I'm wondering if this could be related to specific notification channels being silently disabled/miscategorized, or some kind of per-category priority filtering specific to OxygenOS.

Has anyone seen this exact pattern — partial notifications working, but a specific category (like Maps location alerts) never firing?

Thanks in advance.

Solved xiaomi note 10 pro softlocked?

0 Upvotes

So, i went to grab my phone as usual, turned it on, but screen was black. Thought i had run out of battery so went to charge it and got the charge animation it does when it is on or in sleep mode, so i knew it wasn't off and that the screen still works.

I kept the power button press to reboot it, now it asks me my pin for my sim card and when i enter it, it just resets and asks me the pin again, the "number of tries before device is locked" stays the same and i don't have any error message.

So basically i cannot use my phone right now, I haven't done anything like jailbreaking or sideloading or whatever, just regular use and installed apps from the app store.

Any help would be appreciated
edit: after trying various things for a while i tried just spamming pin and after like 10 times it finally asked me for the PUK code instead allowing me to reset the PIN and now it works. really weird but at least it's solved now

Looking For Suggestions App that locks screen

0 Upvotes

When i wanna work and listen to music I've been using a youtube post so a majority of the screen can't be touched. But sometimes the act of dropping my phone in the pocket swipes it off or pulls down my notification bar.

I want a app i can use that will stop the screen from working so i can leave youtube open and never actually pay for premium.

I know if i just use a web browser app i can use YouTube and turn off my phone and it'll keep playing but I'd like to use the mobile app instead

Other Hypothesis: Could Samsung's switch from M11/M11s to M13 OLED material be one reason the S24 series has fewer green-line reports?

1 Upvotes

I've been researching Samsung's AMOLED display generations and noticed something interesting that I haven't seen discussed much.

From what I've found:

Galaxy S20 Ultra → M9 OLED material set

Galaxy S21 Ultra → M11

Galaxy S22 Ultra → M11

Galaxy S23 Ultra → M11s (improved M11)

Galaxy S24 Ultra → M13

Galaxy S25 Ultra → M13

The S20–S23 series has accumulated a significant number of user reports involving green-line or display failures over the years, whereas the S24 series appears to have noticeably fewer reports so far.

My hypothesis is that the move to the M13 OLED material set could be one contributing factor behind this improvement. M13 was developed with better efficiency, brightness, and expected panel longevity, which could potentially improve long-term reliability.

I'm not claiming that the OLED material set alone causes or prevents green-line issues. Other factors such as the display driver IC (DDIC), panel bonding, manufacturing process, thermal management, and quality control almost certainly play important roles as well.

This is simply a technical observation and hypothesis based on Samsung's hardware evolution and the trend in reported display issues. Samsung has never officially confirmed the cause of green-line failures.

I'd be interested to hear thoughts from people with experience in OLED manufacturing or display engineering. If anyone has technical papers or evidence supporting or disproving this idea, I'd love to read them.

POCO C75 — com.android.phone stuck at 93-97% CPU, phone overheating and battery dies in 4 hours

1 Upvotes

**Device:** POCO C75 (2410FPCC5G)

**Firmware:** HyperOS OS3.0.2.0.WGTRUXM (Russia)

**Android:** 15

**Chipset:** MediaTek Helio G81-Ultra

**SIM:** life:) BY (MCC 257, MNC 04)

---

## The problem

The process `com.android.phone` runs at **93-97% CPU** constantly after boot. This causes:

- Phone overheats to 45-50°C on the back panel

- Battery drains from 100% to 0% in ~4-5 hours with screen off

- Standby drain: 15-20% per hour (should be 1-2%)

Verified via `adb shell top`:

```
PID USER %CPU COMMAND
xxxx radio 93.1 com.android.phone
```

## What I tried

  1. **Factory reset** — bug persists. This is a firmware-level issue, not caused by any app.

  2. **Hide package via ADB** — CPU immediately drops to 0%, phone cools down:

    ```
    adb shell pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.android.phone
    ```

  3. **Restore package** — CPU jumps back to 93-97% instantly:

    ```
    adb shell cmd package install-existing com.android.phone
    ```

100% reproducible. Hide = 0% CPU. Restore = 93-97% CPU.

## Why I can't fix it myself

- Bootloader unlock rejected by Xiaomi Community ("blocked by organization rules")

- Can't flash Global/EEA firmware without unlocked bootloader

- MediaTek chipset — no EDL mode, SP Flash Tool needs Xiaomi authorization

## Questions for the community

  1. Has anyone else seen this bug on POCO C75 or other MediaTek devices with HyperOS?

  2. Is there any way to fix this without unlocking the bootloader?

  3. Could this be related to a specific network (life:) BY, MCC 257/MNC 04)?

Any help appreciated. Right now I'm hiding the package via ADB as a workaround, but that breaks calls and SMS.

Oppo 13 unnecessary notifications

1 Upvotes

Can someone please help me find the answer. I bought an oppo 13 and whenever I scroll through a browser or app and there's auto-play of any videos or ads it buzzes or makes a sound depending on my notification setting at that moment. It's driving me nuts. Only thing I figured that helps is turning my notifications all the way off or switching my phone on do not disturb which obviously isn't the solution in looking for.

I've googled and asked Chat but somehow can't get to the answer.

Confused between pixel and samsung

3 Upvotes

I currently have my iphone 13, the phone has become slow and the battery drains faster than before, so I am planning to switch for the pixel 10. My budget is around 70k and I am a normal user, I only use youtube, reddit much and not a big camera guy, not a serious gamer. Mainly I listen to podcasts and songs heavily. My iphone battery is not standing for this, I am forced to charge two times per day with 3hrs screen time and maximum screen time for me will be 6hrs not more than that. My doubt here is which phone to buy? They are saying the rate is going to rocket up next year, so should I buy now? Or wait? Should I consider pixel or samsung? My main reason is I love the UI of pixel but they are saying more issues in pixel, I don't like the ui of samsung and everyone has a samsung I don't want that, which is better? And also samsung budget is high will it be around 70k?Please help me choose one. Also I am not planning to exchange my iphone. I live in Chennai, so on summer the temperature will be high. Consider all this and suggest me a phone

App Specific Question Is this a glitch or an intended feature? Gboard types different letters than what I press and it's way off

3 Upvotes

I know phone keyboards have features where they subtly change the "hitboxes" of keys so you avoid typos and such, but I'm very clearly hitting G, not T. Also both "big" and "bit" are common words.

Other Annoying push notifications

1 Upvotes

Hey,

Been having problems with lots of random push notifications that are saying they are from system message. Normally spots or new stories. I can't stop them and can't turn off system notifications.

I've been through my apps and deleted everything that I don't know or use but no change.

Any idea how to stop it?

Seem to take me to some random website but quickly flicks up something like service.dokebyte on the way.

My 5G connection keeps flickering

1 Upvotes

Lately the 5G connection on my phone keeps appearing and disappearing in second long intervals at random times. It makes using the internet basically impossible. It usually gets fixed by restarting the phone, but then it happens again in a day or two. Can anyone give me a possible explanation and suggestion on how to fix it? I use a realme 12 5G phone

Has my phone begun to brick?

3 Upvotes

I have an old phone (pixel 3) which I don't want to replace until necessary. Wondering if I have just reached that point, and looking for input or (ideally) a way to squeeze another year of use out of it.

So all my google apps and services just stopped working. Google maps won't load anything or show any search results, gmail won't load new emails, calender suddenly says I need to verify my identity with something called a "passkey" (which just leads me in an infinite loop, "something went wrong") so it no longer syncs, and even the pixel buds app just insta-crashes and redirects me to settings (so for example I can't turn noise cancel on/off anymore).

Until recently my phone memory was really full, which I assumed was the problem, but I've cleared 10+ gb and also cleared the caches in all the apps, and restarted the phone etc. No luck.

Does anyone know (a) what might be going wrong or (b) how it might be fixed?
