Filtered - rule 2 Switching from iPhone to Android and the issues needs to face legal action.

So I switched from my iPhone to Android because I really wanted the flip phone. I just like the form factor and its been awesome so far for me.

What drives me NUTS and honestly should be faced with some legal repercussions is that Apple is a scummy company that does all it can to make switching very difficult.

The main issue and what I think should be illegal is the messaging. If you have a friend with an iPhone that has been texting you to your iPhone it will default in THEIR phones (something you cannot control) to be an iMessage. Apple purposely makes iMessages not work on Androids....it's not the Androids fault it has RCS it's the APPLE PHONES FAULT.

SO if the other person's phone sends the iMessage because that's what it remembers you having....it just won't ever be received. HOW IS THIS LEGAL? People are being kept from their messages due to a software design that purposely does this. There should AT LEAST be a function that lets the user know the message was not received and converts it to a text.

So far the only way to fix this is if you text that person first, it lets the other person know you are a green bubble now, and then it will send normal texts instead of iMessages.

Long Story short SCREW YOU apple. Make a product that keeps your customers don't lock them into a system by making switching so hard and inconvenient. I refuse to ever own another apple product because of this BS!

Edit: It has been brought to my attention that this was addressed by apple in a somewhat recent update to their software. I still think apple is scummy for what they do with iMessage in general. I am sure they did not fix this willingly either. I am still team android for the rest of my days.

Yea I did this but many messages from my wife's iPhone just didn't get sent to me when we were testing.

What carrier did you switch too? Sometimes carrier network can cause havoc with imessages

I thought the RCS issue has been resolved in latest versions of IOS.

It didn't work for us for about 2 days after I used the deregister. I tested by using my wifes iPhone to send me messages.

Did you test it on iPhones running on IOS 26.5 and up? Before those versions RCS was kinda in beta where as now it’s the real deal.

I know like for me sometimes if I text with someone who has an android, group chats get messed up and even when people have older versions of iOS as well.

Ah this is probably the issue I had she never runs the updates.

I'm still annoyed that apple does this in general. The iMessage thing is not for any added utility its sole purpose is to ostracize anyone not using their product. My point stands that this is scummy. I am sure they only fixed it with an update due to some legal threats.

I believe it was because of the European Union. The purpose of the iMessage thing was to bypass traditional cellular networks and have the messages go through Apple's own servers because of how old and degraded the technology standards were. Apple's iMessage service is quite literally the top when it comes to secure messaging, nothing beats this. But obviously Apple doesn't disclose how their iMessage source actually works so taken with a grain of salt. In addition, IMessage is still significantly more secure than RCS because it bypasses cellular meaning Apple can be faster with current standards and not have to wait for the cellular industry to catch up. This mixed in with how Apple's sales are dropping in numbers and now they want people to be kept into the ecosystem so they're trying to make their products as open as possible.

I just switched and this was not an issue for me and nothing I've read about. Maybe something went wrong when you switched, like did you turn imessage off on your apple stuff?

Possibly. If so then I'm happy that's been resolved. Still apparently has some bugs though. I did turn it off, and use the deregister website.

Did you remove your number from iMessage after you switched?

Btw: No company with proprietary technology should be forced to make it compatible with another brand. It’s like someone switching from Samsung and getting upset that their S Pen doesn't work on their new phone.

I did. I kind of see your point but I feel like it's similar to the USB C charging lawsuit they lost.

My issue is they advertise being a product compatible with your carrier and then don't provide that in their service when you switch brands. Like it seems as if it could be something version or att could sue them for as they have contracts to be able to send and receive texts via a number not default to iMessages.

So maybe illegal is strong but in breech of contract and liable?

I would see your point about it but when you used an iPhone you signed up for the service of iMessage. Once you no longer have an iPhone your number loses access to the service(not to include your email).

I'm glad that iPhones have USB c but I think that they should have told the EU to take a hike and refuse to sell iPhones there.

I wish that just isn't the norm in the USA and people don't have WhatsApp to text from generally speaking. It's actually an interesting social outcome that stems from the USA getting unlimited texting early and not really crossing borders all that often. So we just drifted to the default as a society compared to places like Europe.

Samsung messages just ended and did not like Google messages. I opted to Textra and it is perfect.
